Tips and suggestions on where to stay in Hongkong

We are planning to go to HK for New Year and as early as now we are trying to finalize all our bookings.

December 30 - arrive in HK and stay in a hotel in TsT
December 31-January 2 - check in at HK Disneyland
January 2 - check in in a TsT hotel
January 3 - fly out to MNL

we dont know where to stay yet in TsT. My husband and I are traveling with 3 kids (7, 4 and 2 yo). We called Butterfly on Prat. They initially said that we have to book 2 rooms which is not even an option cause we are traveling with kids! They suggested next to get a Deluxe room (one of their more expensive rooms) then just pay additional $350 for the extra bed. Namamahalan ako. Plus, my 4yo and 2yo sleep with me so an extra bed is not really needed.

We budgeted Php 35k for our 2 nights stay at TsT (we have a separate budget for Disneyland). That much cause it's New Year so we are expecting a spike in the room rates. We want sana to extend until January 4 (meaning our stay in TsT would be for 3 nights instead of 2) but I dont know if we can with our budget. Staying in a hostel or in a transient house is out of the question. 

Any options for the hotels? Plus are they really strict with the number of heads especially with our case that we are traveling with kids?

Do you really want to go to a hotel, I would suggest staying in a hostel or you could try looking at airbnb for options. Masyadong mahal talaga pag hotel tapos peak season pa.

^^sis, marco polo gateway has rooms with 2 double beds. Puwede yun pagdikitin and they allow 2 adults and 2 kids in a room. I think puwede na isingit yung 1 child pa basta wag na isama sa reception wait nalang sa lobby di na siguro mapapansin yun. Kahit 1 lang sa inyo mag approach sa reception for check in then the rest wait nalang sa lobby.

hunny_ally, we stayed at Marco Polo HK din last time. Hindi sila strict. 3 adults and 1 child kami. The 3rd adult kasi is the yaya kaya ayaw ko naman na mag book pa ng sarili niyang room You can also check BP international. Hindi din sila strict diyan. I stayed there last year. 2 weeks ago naman I stayed at Stanford Hillview Hotel. Hindi din sila strict and big ang room nila but the catch is that the road going to the hotel is very steep.

smoothie, staying in a hostel is out of the question. My husband and I are not comfortable with the idea considering puro bata kasama namin. I think the php 35k we budgeted for 2 days is an ok budget. That's only for the hotel accommodation so that's Php 17.5k/night. I was able to find rooms that averages for php 10-12k per night for our travel dates. That is the same amount we are paying for our 2 nights stay at Disney Hollywood hotel. Disney, based on our call w/ their reservations, is amenable for us to stay in a standard room. Unlike in Butterfly on Prat they want us to stay in one of their more expensive rooms plus pay additional HK$350 for our 2yo daughter. In excess daw kasi of 2 adults and 2 kids limit. Mas mahal pa sya lalabas sa stay namin in Disney!

I'm thinking if it is better for us to just stay in Disney Hollywood the whole time? Anyway we do not have plans of going around the city that much. Will it be too hard for us to travel from Disney to the city if ever we want to go around and shop?

^it won't be hard naman sis pero medyo malayo lang.maybe it would take 40 mins by mtr to travel from disney to tsim sha tsui.

we're planning to go back to HK next year with our 2 kids who will be 4 and almost 2 years old by then, plus 1 yaya..my dilemma is, it's either we book 2 hotel rooms (which is magastos) or rent a 2-bedroom unit na lang thru airbnb..who has tried renting a unit? safe ba? what are the pros and cons? also, our plan is to stay at disneyland hotel for at least 1 night, pwede ba 3 adults and 2 kids dun ?  kasi if not, parang di na practical if we book a separate room pa for our yaya..im thinking of leaving her sa unit for a night (makatarungan ba to?) while we're at disney hotel...hahaha nahihirapan ako mag-isip, last time we went kasi 1 kid pa lang so keri pa without yaya, and we stayed at BP that time so gusto ko naman makapag-stay sa disneyland hotel

^in my experience at disneyland hotel, they don't check how many people are staying in a room. I think they are not strict with that. Either you or hubby nalang punta sa reception while na rest wait in the lobby. Pasimple nalang siguro. They have rooms with 2 double beds then just request for a crib for your youngest para kasya kayo.

^wow thank you sis, so pwede pala sneak in na lang...if that's the case, parang mas practical pa ata if we'll stay at disneyland hotel na lang the whole time, di na kami magbook ng hotel/unit sa tst area..

@Sis Hunny_ally, for me if you want to shop better to stay sa TST hotel, kasi nakakapagod din yung puro Bus/MTR ride to and from hotel, kaso parang looking at your sched dapat magkadikit two nights na nasa Disney hotel at Tst hotel kundi pagod din lang maglipat ng gamit.

Marco Polo Gateway sure na kakasya kayo, hindi sila strict, sanay na din sila na pag mga filipinos eh madami sa isang room =)

Try to look at Hotel Benito, get the biggest room, don't declare the infant, 2 queen beds yun, feeling ko kakasya din kayo =)

Thanks sweety_paige! Reason for staying in TST in our first night is we want to go around the city on our first day. So staying in TST is perfect. We really want to celebrate the NY in the park kaya nasa gitna talaga siya. Anyway, what I'll do is aside our things for our 1st night stay in a separate bag so we don't have to go thru a lot of things. Plus definitely no shopping on our first day. 

We finalized it already. We booked with Marco Polo Gateway. We were able to book it thru the agency who handles the ticketing for my husband's business trips so we were given a really good rate. Plus, we were able to use his corporate discount. The php 35k we initially budgeted for 2 nights stay was more than enough that we can squeeze in another night. Bale 3 nights na in TST. And this is for a deluxe room and not a standard room plus they're giving us an extra bed for free. So happy

^ok yan sis. During our hk trip last year, hubby, i and our 3 yr old daughter that time stayed at disneyland hotel for 3 nights then we moved to marco polo gateway hotel for 2 nights. It's more convenient especially if you have kids in tow.

Is Langham in Peking Road any good?

We were given a better rate for a deluxe room compared to Marco Polo Gateway plus complimentary extra bed. Room rate is just around hkd 300/night cheaper BUT the Langham includes breakfast

^^Naka stay na din ako sa Langham for 2 nights. Classic room lang ito pero King size ang bed. Free breakfast din but I booked via Agoda. The Langham hotel (Peking Road) is perpendicular to Marco Polo Gateway (Canton Road) kaya ok din ang location. Near pa din sa TST station si Langham.

I inquired sa Disney Hotel regarding maximum guest allowed, ito yung response nila:

we are pleased to advise you that for safety regulations and comfort reason, our rooms are for a maximum of four (4) registered guests, including adults, children and infants per room, regardless of the room types.

I will be traveling with a 2 year old kasi plus my BF and a friend, since medyo pricey yung room, sama sama na lang kami. We'll be staying for 2 nights.

Im planning to go backpacking to HK this July 20 - 26. Can you guys tell me kung saan cheapest ako pwede mag stay kasi ako lang naman mag isa? What is also the weather at that month?

Want to go to HK badly pero wala akong mahanap na kasama. LOL. Sana makakuha ng tips and ideas from this thread. Will be backreading, but I'm posting para makasama na ako sa loop! Haha. I just really want to visit Disneyland again kasi nung 2007 yung last ko na punta, medyo maliit pa siya nun.

^^Try Golden Crown Guesthouse or Taisan Guesthouse, hostel lang yan sis kaya affordable. Sa Mongkok area, Dragon hostel naman.
