newborn stool is usually colored black. Ito yung tinatawag na meconium and it contains bilirubin. If baby is more than a few days old and still has black stool, best to consult your doctor.

Stupid question - but is it supposed to smell bad? even the gas she releases?

could be the diet. What do you feed your baby? What does your doctor say about it? How is your baby otherwise?

for those that were advised to add hot cake syrup/karo by pedia,
do you add 5ml (1tsp) to water or to formula?

hi domestic diva!

my pedia knows im breastfeeding so she said add the syrup to water... my ratio is 5ml syrup to 20oz of water.

im scared nga kasi its sweet.  baka na set yun taste ni baby sa sweet stuff pero hopefully i dont need to use this after gumalingn n yun poo problem niya

pixiedusk, DEFINITELY NOT pancake mix.
Karo syrup also carries a botulism risk. Even the manufacturer acknowledges that.

We are aware that some health care professionals suggest feeding Karo syrup to infants in a formula or for relief of constipation. Because corn syrup, like many other foods is not a sterile product, there is a remote possibility that it may contain C. botulinum spores.

@ grumpybear - yes its syrup... i also am scared of using this solution (syrup/water) but the pedia prescribed it. And its been 3 days since his last poo.

Im super stress n! The baby doesnt like it pa! Hes breastfed kasi and i have to give the solution using baby bottle... he doesnt like it!

Do you have any suggestion? Safe suggestion.... 3 days no poo... im super worried already

Breastfeeding ka pala sis . . . need not to worry!
My hubby read somewhere na dumadating talaga sa stage na mag skip si baby mag poop. Actually up to 5 days daw is still acceptable pero im not comfortable with that so punta kami sa pedia.

Our pedia told us exactly what my hubby told me  :-[ She added that provided daw hindi sobrang laki ang tyan ni baby to the point na parang puputok na. And pakiramdaman mo si baby kung he/she looks irritable ba or may iniindang sakit.

Kung mukhang normal naman besides the usual fussines wait wait ka lang. Antayin mo pag nag poop yan malamang punong puno ang diaper at baka magoverflow pa. Tsaka expect mo na parang peanut butter ang consistency nyan.

It happened to my baby kasi (breastfeed din), after 3 days  . . . bongang bonga ang poop nya  ;D While I was changing the diaper e nassa tabi lang si hubby . . abay humingi ba naman ng tinapay kay inday at parang masarap daw palaman sa tinapay . . . LOL! :D

Uuulitin ko po, this is for exclusive breastfed babies lang.

I agree with sis vipher, kung exclusively bf si baby ok lang mag skip sya ng days without pooping.

My baby is exclusively bf din, from 2 months till she's more than 5 months ang sched nya ng poop ay every 3 days, one time pa nga hindi sya nag poop for 5 days. search mo rin online some babies even go for 11 days without pooping, again sa breastfed babies lang to ha, kasi nga bf is so nutritious na less talaga ang waste materials.

Pero naman pag nag poop sila kaboom sis, minsan lumalabas sa diapers sa dami, pero the consistency ay soft parin, tama just like a peanut butter, di tulad ng bottle fed babies na nag skip kasi constipated at matigas ang poop.

I would know kung mag poop na baby ko that day or the next pag ang baho na ng utot nya.

Now na nag sosolids na si baby minsan nag iiskip parin sya ng 2 days pero I just watch for her cues kung may masakit ba sa kanya or irritable sya dahil hindi pa sya ng poop. Yun lang pag sobrang baho ng utot nya, inistimulate ko na by massaging her stomach or I carry her, her back on my chest, tapos upo ako ng pa recline then kunwari play kami I'll hold her legs then i up and down motion, instead of cycling sabay kong tinataas legs nya para na pipisil yung tyan nya, works everytime.
