yes sis, gumagalaw si baby while on labor. Along with that, may binigay saking parang joystick, pindutin ko raw yun pag nafeel kong gumalaw si baby.

sa mga mommies na nanganak na, anong feeling when your water broke- pumutok ang panubigan (tama ba?) ? and gano karami ang fluid na lumabas? and nag-start ba kagad ang contractions after that? curious lang, first time mom :D

my labor story:

no pain, no cotraction at all. due ko na last july 25.

when i had my check up, wala pa talagang contrations and opened at 2cm lang. when my doctor did IE on me, she stripped something that made me bleed. it should start my contraction daw. during night time, i was waiting for the pain, wala. so the next day july 26, i went to delivery room of cardinal santos, induce na ako.

july 26 at 9am, i went inside the delivery room of cardinal santos. so clean. no smell. no noisy sound. the nurse accomodate me immediately, we went first to this small room, i forgot what they call it.. dito nila ginagawa mga interview. like whose your doctor, sickness history in your family etc.  then IE. then go to labor room.

10am at labor room, i had my own room. my own tv. relax lang ako, then my doctor came in. lalagay na yung pang-induce na medication. sabi ni dr, matagal eto ha, baka mainip ka. you can sleep, you can watch tv. i was so tense waiting for the pain. i cant relax...

at 3pm im at 4cm. tolerable pain.

at 5pm im at 5cm. super pain. i asked for epidural na. something's wrong pa with my spinal cord. nagddikit dikit yung sa pinakababa, baka magka-problem daw sa pag lagay ng anethesia. buti nalang my anesthisiologist magaling. nalagay niya ang gamot ng walang pain for me. =)

at 7pm. im at 7cm na. i thought malapit na and mabilis na. i can still feel a little pain. kasi need daw may pain, para makairi ako..

at 10pm still at 7cm. they try to stripped inside me again, pero ayaw na talaga, dahil bumababa na din heartbeat ng baby ko. they had to do cs na.

at 11pm, prepare na for cs. 11:44 my baby came out na. =)

gave birth oct 8, 2010
NSD no anesthesia

Hi chofontanilla,

To answer your question, anesthesia can cause side effects on the mother and baby. Epidural anesthesia, for example, can cause drop in blood pressure of the mom, nausea, shivering, headache, etc, and in rare cases, can cause respiratory depression on the baby, possibly difficulty latching when you want to breastfeed, etc. And another thing, when you do NSD with anesthesia, you may have more difficulty pushing because you can't feel the contractions or when to push (you actually don't feel much at all below your waist, which is why the doctor and nurses really need to teach you when to push).

But of course, not everyone experiences this, and most women who give birth with anesthesia don't experience problems at all. I actually wanted to give birth without anesthesia, but my OB discouraged it, so I had NSD with epidural, and didn't experience any problems. I still went through the labor pains (the anesth only inserted the epidural when I was at 8cm), then when I was fully dilated, I was wheeled into the DR/OR and gave birth with the help of the doctors/nurses chanting when it was time to push. I was wide awake during the procedure, and the baby came out perfect and was placed on my breast before being taken for the measurements/newborn care. Then came the placenta delivery, stitching, which I didn't feel (again, because of the anesthesia).

Afterwards, an hour or two stay at the recovery room where nainip na nga ako 'coz I wanted to go back to my room already, and I already had feeling below the waist. A nurse at CSMC brought my baby again and taught me how to get him to latch and breastfeed. Then finally, I was wheeled to my room, where I immediately asked for food kasi gutom na talaga ako. Nakakain and nakatayo naman ako kagad. And the baby was healthy... we also didn't have problems breastfeeding.

So, I'm glad that the NSD with epidural didn't pose any problems, and it was a really smooth birth all in all. It's really up to you and your OB what you decide on. But as with any medication, there's a possibility of side effects (which is why some women choose not to have it), though minimal lang naman.

Oh, thank you for the information sis hmist. Kelan nyo diniscuss ng OB nyo yung about sa anesthesia? Are there any anesthesia available aside from epidural? I wonder.

I remember we discussed it when I was at my 7th month. :) I think you can discuss it with your OB any time... it's definitely a good concern to talk about.

For NSD, spinal anesthesia is sometimes given too, but today, mas common talaga ang epidural because it is safer. Mas controlled ang dose kasi sa epidural, because may iinsert na thin tube sa epidural space (in your spine), and magbibigay lang ng gamot as needed. Sa spinal anesthesia, one dose lang kasi siya, so mas likely na sobra or kulang. But depende rin sa anesth mo... some prefer using spinal anesth pag sanay na sila dito, but most nowadays, sabi mas maganda ang epidural.

General anesthesia is typically used only for CS, kasi dun tulog ka talaga.

re:twilight. reasearched sa google- its a form of general anes. usually gnagamit sa mga plastic surgery and dentistry. uso sya b4 epidural kasi mabilis recovery from groggyness etc. at mas mura din siya.
some nga lang dont like this kasi minsan nagiging sleepy din si baby, so di nakkapagBF kagad

maybe you can ask your ob about this. depende din kasi talaga kung ano mas prefer nila.

Here's a good link from the American Pregnancy Association about the different pain relief na ginagamit for giving birth: http://www.americanpregnancy.org/labornbirth/ Scroll down dun sa category na "Pain Relief Options."

According to them, epidural anesthesia is the most popular means of pain relief during labor. What I like about epidural is di ka talaga groggy or sleepy... gising na gising ka during birth (at least that was my experience). Decreased nga lang talaga yung sensation mo below the waist, kaya kailangan sasabihin sayo when to push. But the good part is not feeling the pain of contractions and labor, as well as the delivery of the placenta and possible stitching afterwards. So kung mahina pain tolerance mo, you should talk to your OB about your pain options.

To answer yung question about the pain of insertion nung anesthesia... parang di ko na rin naramdaman masyado kasi 8cm na ko nung linagyan ng epidural, so mas nakaconcentrate ako sa labor pains, hehe.

sa first baby ko wala ako nafeel sa labor..sabi ni OB nalalabor ako.. up to 9cm wala ako nafefeel..

sa 2nd baby ko nafeel ang labor pains..nasa clinic lang ako nun waiting for my turn.. hindi ako mapakali kasi sakit yung balakang ko..basta hindi madescribe mga sis..kakaiba sya sa usual contractions..hindi mo nga alam kung tatayo o uupo.. nung turn ko na inIE ako ni OB, and she said 6-7cm na..takbo na daw ako sa hospital kasi sobrag nipis na daw..I arrive sa hospital 4pm, baby out by 4:23pm.. nauna pa si baby sa hubby and mom ko na sumunod sa hospital..
