To Live in Baguio City

This is a question for our sisses living in Baguio City or nearby town. I want to know, how is it to live in Baguio? Aside from the cool climate, ano pa ba maganda sa place na ito?

I'm working from home so internet and electricity is very important to my work, do you guys think reliable ang mga internet connections and power source ng Baguio?

For me, super heaven ang Baguio and would love to stay there for good, like purchase a home in the future. But I've only been there at least once a year, 3-4 days lang and I stay in a hotel, so I'd like to get opinions from those who live in Baguio.

Up for this thread. I attended UP Baguio for a year and really loved living in Baguio. A friend of mine is considering renting a place in Baguio. On the average, how much ang rent for a nice apartment in Baguio and any suggestions where to look?

Up for this thread. Gusto ko rin malaman, where is the safest place to live in Baguio? Kasi diba marami akong naririnig sa news na landslides kapag may bagyo or umuulan.. Sang part ang pinakasafe?

I studied (4 years) and worked for 3 years in Baguio before I moved here in Manila. Anyway, the place is really nice and if I had a choice I would have worked and stayed there for good. But since work opportunities there are limited, and back then, I was so in love with my ex, I moved here in the city.

Aside from the climate, the culture as well as the people there are nice and educated. I think it is one of the highest literacy rate here in our country. Walang dupang doon na taxi driver. Kahit piso, ibibigay sukli mo. In terms of living conditions and cost, I could say, that it's one of the best. Food and commodities are low compared here in Metro Manila.

The only setback is that Baguio has become so highly urbanized that sometimes city services like water can be scarce at times. Moreover, although the weather is good, mahirap doon kapag tag-ulan - cold, harsh and windy kahit walang typhoon.

As for the rent, basically 6500 pwede ka nang makakuha ng magandang apartment or bahay. A decent room would cost 2000.

Internet access is okay like here in Manila din.

Nakafiber optics na sila doon so no problem talaga sa technology and communication.

due to korean din nagtaasan na ang nga rent and even cost of lot in Baguio that's what my friends says. I grew up in Baguio last 2002 when i got work outside bagio every holiday nalang ako nakakauwi samin. Baguio is nice to stay. medyo mahirap lang ang transpo kapag nasa labas ka ng town proper nakatira. Me schedule kasi ang mga public jeepneys if hanggang anong oras lang sila bumibiyahe. unless you're staying in places where the aurora hill and trancoville jeepneys passes 24/7 na sila on the go. The veggies walang maicompara napaka fresh compare here na mahal na di na ganun ka fresh. Basic commodities i think the same din naman mas mura lang sa mga fresh foods. Groceries are the same. People padin are nice. incomparable padin. Fresh air padin kahit papano. though sa city proper di na masyado.

Traffic nadin kaya daming one way. Baguio roads were not design kasi for that kind quantity of vehicles. kaya ganun..

I basically grew up in Baguio..been there for more than 25 years..i never imagined i'll leave that place..never kong inimagine to live in Manila..yet here i am..we just relocated late last year..basically because my husband's work is here..some sacrifices you do for the sake of love

Anyways, eto maganda sa baguio
1. Kahit highly urbanized sya, malinis pa rin ang hangin.
2. You can experience the fog in baguio..feeling mo nasa heaven ka kasi bumababa ang ulap..in fact, sa sobrang lamig you can produce "fog" in your mouth..minsan, umuulan din ng yelo..although matagal-tagal ko ng di naeexperience yun..
3. Mura lang ang kuryente kasi di mo na kailangan ng aircon.  Kahit magfb kang boung araw aabot lang kuryente mo ng 2-3K a month.  Internet connection is not a problem.
4. Fresh ang veggies at fruits. you can buy 5 pieces of carrots for just P10..madaming ganon sa gilid ng Maharlika..P100 bongang-bonga ka na sa gulay..may P5 pesos png apple at orange..dito sa Manila minimum na yung P10 di pa malutong..pero magingat din sa mandurukot sa palengke..
5. cheap ang taxi at mostly mababait mga taxi drivers. pag malapit ka lang sa town..P50 lang magagastos mo..susuklian ka pa hangang sa huling 25 cents..kahit madaling araw..nagkalat ang taxi..
6. they have cheap but quality education..sabi ng friend ko na may incoming elementary na son..tuition ng anak nya sa private school dun is 16k..that is twice what i'm paying here in Manila..geez
7. murang gumimik..there are many available gimik spots at restaurants to choose from along Legarda road
8.Magandang magvalentines day sa baguio kung may bf ka..kasi kung wala..ramdam mong may kulang kasi masasalubong mo sa Session rd mga lovers na may dalang balloons at roses..for most part of the year, mura ang flowers
9. Madaming ukay-ukay to choose from..sa Session at Bayanihan..wag ka lang umastang bakasyunista kasi tatagain ka sa presyo.
10. May Panagbenga..but if you do not like crowds then this is not for you..kasi sa sobrang traffic..wala ng gumagalaw na sasakyan..you would have to walk from the city to your house..ang gusto ko sa Panagbenga yung isasara yung session tapos madaming stalls selling food at kung ano ano pa..parang fiesta..ang saya..
11. Icecream sa Session delights..you would wonder who eats ice cream in that kind of weather?..well, mabenta to lalo na pagPanagbenga which happens in February, which ironically is the coldest month in Baguio..
12. Madami ring quality health care institutions in Baguio..you don't have to go pa to Manila..
13.Masarap magcuddle ni honey lalo na pagumuulan..
14. At ang mga paborito ng turista, syempre mga pasyalan sa Baguio..which pag taga-Baguio ka bihira mo ng puntahan..kasi sawang-sawa ka na..highly recommended ang strawberry picking sa La Trinidad farm..

Ang di maganda sa baguio
1. Basura.  For the past years, the city government is faced by this problem.  There was a time na antagal nilang kinolekta ang basura the city stinks.  Dito uso ang segregation..Once a week lang nga ang garbage collection sa amin
2.Water problem.  Mahirap ang tubig lalo na sa summer.  although madaming water delivery dito.  Fortunately may Nawasa na kami..kaso MWF lang ang sched at sa umaga lang meron..so it is a must na may tangke ka dito ng tubig at sankatutak na drum.
3.Mga mandurukot sa session, sa palengke at sa jeep..yup navictimize na rin ako ..so beware!
4.landslide..mostly sa may Kennon Road..  don't live in areas in City Camp kasi binabaha sa lagoon..
5. Di sya advisable tirhan ng mga may rayuma..that's the reason my mom left Baguio in favor of living in the province
6.Bagyo. when it rains it really pours in baguio.
 
Hope this helps to those contemplating to live in Baguio. Rental ng apartment would go from 6-9k unfurnished.  Nagpaparent din kami ng fully furnished 2 storey-2BR apt..kaso available sya first week of July..14k..just PM me na lang to those interested so i can send the pix

the closer you live to the center of the city the less likely you'll be a victim of landslide kasi puro sementado na ang lupa. matagal na rin akong ndi nakatira sa baguio eh so nakalimutan ko na ang mga pangalan ng lugar doon. pero sa baguio rin ako lumaki and i LOVED living there.

pro ang kuya ko nakatira sa naguillan road area at maayos naman ang internet nila.

I used to work here for a year and i wanna go back to Baguio and put up a business.

I used to live there. For 6 years until I means 14. 2001 pa Ito ha. I went back to the Philippines in 2010 and the Weather now and before, big difference. It's not even cold in the mornings anymore Andaming Koreans. Grabe ng traffic. Hardly any trees anymore. And there's a mall on top of the hill. Baguio city is very congested. If you want a relaxing place, try La Trinidad or Tublay. Or try to get a house/ apartment around Loakan Rd or Scout Barrio.

Meron ba ditong nag wo work sa call center sa Baguio?
Parang gusto ko na rin kasi dun tumira, pero wala ako idea magkano yung salary doon.
Sabi mababa daw ang cost of living doon, kaso kailangan ko pa rin malaman ang magiging budget ko.

We are thinking of moving to Baguio. Nothing definite pero pinag-iisipan talaga.

Any of our sisses who live there now?  How is it? How are the schools? Business and work opportunities?  Problem pa din ba any water? Is the internet fast?
