I know may tricks din sila tinuturo, tawag nila dun ay hand abacus.
my daughter doesn't have a lot of homework naman, one lang per day, two at the most. pero of course, kids want to play play play na when they get home... Our first couple of homework sessions was a bit of a struggle, but the third one, and the succeeding ones, once she's settled on her 'school at home chair', with me as Teacher Mama, derecho na kami. we had already established a routine since school started, and she's getting used to it na, tutok lang talaga ako. Just want to share that I recently stumbled upon a 'technique' in helping my kid enjoy doing her homework - I make a storytelling session out of it! Hehe. She loves storytelling sessions, so I thought hmmm, why not make up a story out of her homework for the day - maybe it'll make her interested - and wooohooo it did! Yey! For example, their one page assignment required her to color a tree green, and to trace the word green. So what I did was tell her the story of a princess who was told by her Mama the Queen to pick guava fruits from the tree, but when she went to the garden, the tree had lost its color, and in order for her to get the fruits, it has to be colored green. The princess asked her friends help (I gave the friend my daughter's name), and yahooo, that's what made her uber excited to color and trace! After that story, she was so happy she helped her friend the princess. Hehe. Medyo effort lang sa creativity, pero in fairness, mentally stimulating ang paghananap ng huhuguting storya out of that single page. And to see her enjoy the homework session, makes me really happy too.
