Okay, gets ko na yung PhilCare IPER Care.

IPER Care Program is the most basic. It just covers hospitalization, that's it. It's P3,696/year for the P120,000 coverage, like in the website I linked to.

IPER Care Plus covers hospitalization and out-patient emergency cases. That's the P4,468.80 /year for P120,000 coverage.

They didn't give me a quote for the most comprehensive type, the IPER Care Family. By the name itself, it's a plan for families and not for individuals. It just includes consultations, I believe.

Looks good so far. PhilCare has got good reviews so far from GTers so I think they're okay. Checked their list of accredited hospitals too and it's pretty extensive.

Hi i just saw na po website ng maxicare and i tried magpacompute dun.. Ask ko lang the family plan ba that is minimum of 3 persons, per person yung computed amount nila doon? Lumabas kasi based on age ko, family plan na premium, quarterly payment without dental is P6,000.. So thats for the 3 of us as a family or P6000 x per individual member of the family?
Sensya na po im new to this. Thanks for the info.

sis di ba sayang ang payment mo kung di rin lang nagagamit card mo?
oks lang sana under corporate pero kung individual.. bye bye premium na...

Why would you consider the premium a waste?
Be thankful that you didn't need it for any hospitalization

Besides, you can always use the outpatient
benefit. i.e. weekly consultations with a general
physician, semi annual dental cleaning, etc.

Why would it work differently if its under
a corporate plan?
We pay a subsidized premium if we want
to add more dependents on our HMO card
but its pretty much the same as with an
individual account. we just pay less...

i really appreciate having healthcare talaga
kasi when i was still working, one of the benefits ito with dependents pa..
kaya alam ko value na may healthcard..

but now, resigned na ako.. im thinking of getting this one or insurance na lang..

i have tried maxicare, st patrick, valuecare.. nakalimutan ko na rin yung iba..

^^i totally agree with you! after my dad was hospitalized several years ago and our hospital bill racked up to almost 300K, that's when i realized how HMO is very important - good thing our company had one.

and i totally agree with the individual account as well, it's not a waste. we paid for my brother's account because i can't enroll him as dependent in my company's HMO. we paid an annual premium of 20K with MBL of 200K. of course we always wish that we never have to use it (i mean, for hospitalization; for outpatient, again i agree with you), but if we ever have to use it, we would be very thankful that we do have it.

Hi sisses!

Can anybody here recommend an HMO that accepts patients with pre-existing conditions? My mom (51 years old) kasi underwent surgery, chemo and radiation for breast cancer. She's been cancer free for 2 years already. My father naman is 58 years old and has pacemaker for almost 20 years na and we're expecting na magpalit sya ng pacemaker next year. May HMO kaya na papayag to cover my parents? Although hindi pa sila senior, critical yung illness nila parehas.

I don't want to enroll them to the HMO being provided by my current company because I'm not satisfied with the coverage and service, this is Eastwest, by the way. Hay, I really want to be a able to get a good HMO for them para din magkapeace of mind na ako about this.

TIA!

^^Hirap kasi sa ating mga self-employed, sis, hindi sulit ang ibabayad natin for HMOs. Premiums are too high for such small coverage, and if you do end up using it, chances are your premiums next year will dramatically increase. The risk for individual accounts like ours is not spread out like in group accounts.

There are inexpensive annually renewable HMOs (like Medicard), but personally, I find the 50-60k coverage they offer to be low. Yung ibabayad ko sa kanila na 20-30k/year for my family, ipunin ko lang for 2 years, yun na din yung coverage. Hindi pa kami limited sa accredited network nila.

Instead of getting health insurance that covers everything, I think it's more cost-efficient for self-employed individuals to bear some of the expenses (like consultations, checkups, and dental work), then get coverage for potentially catastrophic events (emergency cases and hospitalization). The premiums for this type of insurance are lower and the coverage is bigger, especially at times when you need it the most. Some examples are Blue Cross' Select Standard plan (reimbursement type) and PhilCare's IPER Care plan (swipe/no-cash-out type).

It's also imperative for the self-employed to have an emergency fund with at least 3-6 months worth of expenses in place. If you have this, your health insurance choices expand to include hospital income plans. Check out Guevent Insurance's F360 Protect product -- it pays 3,000 each day you are hospitalized and even covers up to 5 family members for a premium of only P6,500/year.

Kung tipid mode talaga, and if the network is accessible/convenient to you, you can also get those emergency-only health cards offered Maxicare, Medicard, Philcare, and PNB. Check out Maxicare's EReady, Medicard's RxEr, Philcare's Health Buddy cards, and PNB's Health Ka Pinoy. Small and limited coverage, but cheap.

Paano daw maaassess ang PEC? May exam or check up daw ba na required? Sa medicard kasi may exam pa na inundergo yung ipapacover ko.. thank you!

^Naku, better ask Philcare questions like that, sis. Based on their brochure, covered na nga ang pre-existing illnesses after the first year.
