What brand is your recommendation for luggage?

@m_lim sometimes it's just bad luck :/ File nalang friend mo ng damaged baggage claim. My friend's baggage got disfigured (major dent and nasira ang zipper) but Rimowa fixed her trunk free of charge. United did NOT pay for it. Nag offer ata mga 100 USD lang compensation. Lugi pa sa hassle.

^^that happened to my Salsa pero slit naman sa groove ng mga 4inches. I brought it to Rimowa GB5 if kaya pa irepair. After a few days they called me and said di na daw ma repair kaya they replaced it with a brand new one. Hehe bigla ako nagkaroon ng bago! But now I rarely use my Salsa set since I got a set of Topas. Dents naman ang kalaban ko! Pero okay lang as it adds character. I can have the dents fixed naman anytime at Rimowa free of charge.

By the way, all my Rimowas I got in HKG and Europe. International warranty naman so they entertain any repairs or replacements here in Manila.

@mama squeak Gives me an idea I think I'll have to send my Salsa for repairs. Recently ko lang napansin a deep scratch on its surface. Di naman sobrang halata. Palagay ko it just happened to slide beside a pointy object somewhere during my flight.

But actually before purchasing any expensive luggage, kelangan tanggap mo that not all baggage handlers will treat your stuff with care. I read in a flyer talk forum na the only way you can protect your luggage from bumps, dents and scratches is to not fly at all.

^yeah my Salsa set has scratches too. Di maiiwasan talaga since normal baggage handling yun especially kung mabigat pa yung baggage. Coming from a 20+ year stint in the airline industry I don't really think about maintaining my luggage's immaculate look. Sasama lang loob mo knowing iniitsa yung mga bagahe mo! Lol! Naku ang mga US carriers known yan sa mga walang pakialam sa gamit mo. Sila din nakasira sa mga Samsonites ko before. Ngayon wala silang laban sa aluminum cases ko!

My violet salsa air is barely a year old and so far so good. Saw something in the mall yesterday from Delsey and l am also loooking into getting one.

As our samsonite fire lite luggages were overly stuffed na and there were more items to pack pa, hubby and I hurriedly bought 2 rimowa salsa de luxe cabin multi wheel in black as carry on at mbs in sg the night before flying back to Manila. As we're staying at mbs hotel, there's a 10% discount plus another 100sgd off since we bought 2 then there's the gst refund pa. sulit.

value for money ba ang Rimowa?  Thought it is extremely expensive.

I usually settle for Victorinox, Samsonite and Delsey. Though yung latest purchase ko na samsonite, for some reason, na yupi yung isang corner, sabi ko pa naman sa salesman, di pala ganun katibay, was just using it for 1 yr.  My Delsey and Victorinox are both doing well for more than 5 years now.

Amercian tourister naman tried is once, more affordable pero bumigay din. 

Victorinox - Very sturdy and durable, what I don't like is yung luggage itself palang is heavy na. So paano if you go to Venice? hehe    (bawal naraw may gulong na luggage)

^sis, draft pa lang naman yung sa Venice. Tipong for consultation pa, but I doubt it will push through. Baka i-modify lang nila yung ruling to be. Paano na yung tourism nila? Hirap kaya magbitbit ng bagahe. 

As for Rimowa, yes, definitely value for money. It may be expensive initially but it pays for itself in time. I used to be a Samsonite fan until I started having problems with the wheels and handles. Ang dali masira na! Then I discovered Rimowa in 2009, never looked back. I travel extensively and my bags have held up over time. No pilferage, no broken wheels nor handles (dents nga lang with my aluminum cases but it kinda gives my bags character).

If you get a chance don't buy Rimowas in Manila because OA ang prices. The nearest place you can get them cheap is in HKG (better if you have CX crew friends they get additional 10% off). Of course the cheapest would still be in Europe, Germany specifically (they're always on sale!).

Rimowa for me is a good value for your money because of their after sales services. 

I agree with @mommy squeak that dents give your luggages character. I personally love how my things get their 'battle scars' after some time.

I have Delsey and Skytaveller na luggage. mumurahin lang ang skytraveller ko pero so far, gamit ko siya since 2005 at frequent pang harabas travel ko siya kase super lightweight lang. Sobrang sulit ang wala pang 4K. tee hee!..

^You can get away with a regular sized carry-on for a week's worth of clothes. Mix-match ka lang ng clothes mo so you don't have to bring a lot. For example bring dark-colored slacks or skirts so you can use them more than once. For tops same din or if you are up to it, you can even wash your tops. Most hotels naman have ironing facilities sa room or you can always borrow from housekeeping. I've done this a lot of times when I was still working. Hate ko kasi mag-antay ng check-in bags sa carousel.

I'm a frequent traveller, just putting in my 2pence worth.  I am a believer that just because it's imported doesn't mean na it's actually good.  Thus I try to buy stuffs that are made in the Philippines, or so I want to think.  Anyways, as for handcarry luggage, I recommend Compass.  And as for big luggages, I would really recommend Urban.  I bought my luggages in the Philippines before I left for London. That was in 2009.  So far, both have been with me everywhere, whenever I travel.  Living in London, I do not have the luxuries of travelling in a cab, or in a private car as I do not have one.  When you say commute, you haul your luggages inside a train, on the cobblestone streets, up and down many flights of stairs, on the train. And so far, both my luggages are still intact.  Some scratches, but the wheels are still turning, and that's all.  It has been over the acceptable limit most of the time, but it works well.  hehe..  Yan lang yung masasabi ko, tangkilikin ang sariling atin

my samsonite firelite got dented badly when we arrived in hk. once at the hotel, my hubby lost no time in popping the nasty dent out. looks good as new again haay.

mamasqueak - That's great customer service with rimowa.  Anytime yan sa greenbelt in case I decide to buy in HK?  Sa ngayon our family uses either samsonite or american tourister.

bought salsa air 20 kg in ice blue here in their flagship store in causeway bay hk. we need this additional luggage since our purchases won't no longer fit in our luggages.
