anong therapy ang pinasukan ng anak mo to improve their tripod grip?

@raspberryglace04, my kids underwent occupational therapy (OT) sessions once a week at The Healing Touch Center in Sikatuna Village.  Our goals for the OT are to strengthen the tripod grip, help them be more compliant and improve their work behavior.  Recommendation din ito ng dev. pedia nila, si Dr. Tippy Tanchanco din.    Their teachers in school noticed an improvement naman so we stopped the OT sessions after 6 months. 

@sachism, mukhang promising ang LINKS.   I like the snack time and the turnip - experiential talaga! Don't worry if ayaw pa ni V makisama sa class.  At her age, it's normal naman that she prefers playing alone.

Also regarding the stairs.  Don't be afraid.  The classrooms of my kids are also in the second floor and that was one of my concerns before.  The teacher explained very well that as long as you teach a child how to properly climb and walk down the stairs and guide them while they are still not experts at doing so, they won't fall naman.  Good training na din yun.

Hi Sis marose!  I do not know if this is the right topic to post my question.  My son too is undergoing ot because he is delayed in fine motor skills particularly in writing.  He is undergoing ot for 6 months already.  He has improved a lot though di nya pa kaya mag sulat within the blue, red blue line of a grade 1 pad.  He is 5 yrs old by the way.  My question is:  who decides when to stop the ot? Feeling ko [textspeak!] ok na sya but our dev ped still recommends to continue the ot

Hi mga sis! I'm a newbie po. Nakapagvisit na po ako ng 3 schools TGP sa fiat st. Fairview, Kinderheim & Kiddos both sa Don Antonio. Nakapsit in na po yung daughter ko 3y/o s TGP at nkpagreserve na rin po ako for summer class nila, but for one reason parang gusto ko pa rin magscout ng other schools kaya nkita ko ang kinderheim at kiddos? Can anybody comment po or please give me a feedback, about kinderheim and Kiddos...

@prettycha, my sons' respective OTs recommended that we take a break for a while.  Actually, nauubusan na sila ng ipagagawa sa kanila eh.  Dr. Tippy recommended dyad or group therapy rather than the one-on-one they've done.  However, wala naman silang makaka-group na kids sa therapy center as of now. 

It was my and my husband's decision to stop OT for now.  Kinausap muna namin mabuti ang OT nila before kami nag-decide.  Aside from the writing aspect kasi, wala naman talaga kaming ibang concerns sa sons namin na kailangan ng therapy.

Hindi ko pa nasabi sa dev ped na nag-stop kami ng therapy sessions.  I plan to do it next month kasi may sked ang isang son ko. 

Re at your son's age, hindi pa expected na perfect na niya ang writing.

Thanks for the insights sis marose.  Personally,  I feel ok na son ko.  I am a bit worried [textspeak!] sabi ng dev ped pag delayed daw sa writing or fine motor skills ADHD at risk ang bata.  But as a mom, yung development ng son ko is fair na for his age.  Yung mga questions [textspeak!] ng dev ped re my son's development kulang na lang tanungin nya kung perfect yung anak ko.  My son can write 80% of the alphabet already but is having a difficulty in drawing shapes like triangles rectangles etc.  Should I be alarmed?

^  Have you discussed the dev pedia's comments with the teacher of your son?  It would help kasi if you do.  The teacher can also give a fair assessment of your son's behavior and development.

Frankly, nakaka-alarm naman pag-describe ng dev ped mo about delay in fine motor skills/writing vis-a-vis ADHD.  Bakit ganoon ang conclusion niya?  Did the doctor ask about your son's routine, etc.?  Si Dr. Tanchanco kasi she would not make that ADHD assumption agad.  She would ask probing questions like, kelan mo pinahawak ng pencil, scissors, chopsticks, etc. ang bata?  Marunong na mag-computer and Ipad?  Do you practice writing at home?  Can your child tie his shoelaces, etc?  May lifestyle check muna siya bago magbigay ng recommendation.  And she never makes a conclusion on the basis of just one visit.

One of the things i learned is not to anticipate the needs of your child so much, and huwag din tutulungan basta basta.  For example, kung nakita mong hirap ang batang magtusok ng fork sa meat, huwag mo agad gawin for him.  Hayaan mo muna siya.  A lot of kids nowadays kasi tutok sa pagsisilbi ang mom or yaya, hindi na nagagamit ang muscles nila.  Isama mo pa diyan na mas madaling mag-swipe sa Ipad rather than pick a pencil and write.

My advice is to set a meeting with your son's teacher and ask where your son is in terms of his writing and fine motor skills versus his peers.

Unfortunately, I have not discussed thoroughly with my son's teacher.  All of the things that you mentioned (lifestyle check etc) our dev ped never asked.  Nag question and answer lang sila ng son ko then she asked him to write.  1st meeting/assessment pa lang she pointed out agad na ADHD at risk yung son ko.  I am now on the verge of finding a new dev ped [textspeak!] di parang di thorough yung assessment ng present dev ped ko.

Finally, i was able to visit pediahouse and the nest to have a feel of the place...

the nest grade school is a bit small and the facilities are not new and not old din naman.  the teacher who oriented me naman is okay and the kids i bumped into are all talking in straight english.  maximum number of students for my sons class daw is 15.  not sure if this is their max for all their classes.  unfortunately, they still cannot say if they will offer an afternoon class for my son's age group.  tuition fee isPhp66k for one-time payment upon registration.

for pediahouse naman, the school is bigger than the nest and the facilities are newer.  they have a bigger open space/grounds but the classrooms are i think of the same size.  when i entered the school, i can hear students singing "is a small world after all" :-)  the teacher who oriented me is better than the one who oriented me at nest.  pediahouse nga lang is a traditional school, while the nest is progressive but pediahouse has a 10:45am class. tuition fee is Php82k for one-time payment upon registration.

i'm now leaning towards pediahouse even if it is traditional.  i'll try to have my son assessed tomorrow. hope he'll pass the assessment.  :-)

^^ @samniki  sis I also visited Kinderheim and they already assessed my son. I thought okay na ko with Kinderheim because the tuition is around 55K but when I checked their classroom for preschool disappointed talaga ko. For me naliliitan ako sa rooms parang 2 stretch lang ng arms ko ang laki and [textspeak!] chairs nila pang adult na individualized with arm. I just thought pano [textspeak!] things nila  kung may activity I'm sure mahuhulog un since kasya lang isang book dun or a worksheet. So I made my decision to eliminate this school.

Sis any feed back on CREATIVE EXPLORERS along Visayas Ave?  This is on top of my list since they are a progressive school. I don't hear kasi some feedback on this school. Though Books & Blocks in Tierra Pura is also okay but I opt not to include sana the food in their school fees since super choosy son ko sa food baka masayang lang bayad ko.

Mga sis if you're near Kalayaan Avenue Q.C you can check out my sons school...It's Fremont Learning Center....Progressive method of Teaching siya, 1000 sq/m ang laki ng grounds nila...airconditioned rooms, very accomodating ang teacher as in super bait, they also have cctv cam inside the school premises and in every classroom/gates, malaki ren yung rooms, for nursery/kinder 12:1 student:teacher ratio plus 1 aid, for toddlers 5:1 plus 1 aid, and very affordable ang tuition fee. Honestly ang laki ng na improve ng son ko when he entered Fremont.  Very thankful talaga ako..this summer they offer Summer Fun Programs like Summer Camp, Reading and Writing, Math Camp, Phonics Fun, Arts and Cooking, Ballet, Taekwondo and hindi ganun ka crowded yung school..limited lang talaga ang students..

Ask ko lang if you know this "Universal Kindergarten" for kida 5 years old. Is this applicable to private schools and /or public schools?
