^ thanks, sis prettycha.  i'll check the schools you mentioned.  early achievers is along araneta avenue, i think.  there were not so good reviews about early achievers in another site.  just the same, i'll also check-out this school.  thanks also for your inputs about montessori.

^ Maria Montessori parang traditional sila dito. Marami sila per level tapos required daw mag tutorial after classes even the nursery. You pay a whopping 68k plus above and still requires to have a teacher tutor your kid at home. I just don't see the point.

^Tutor sa nursery? You're right, that's pointless. Slightly OT, pero standard na ba sa mga bata ngayon ang may tutor? Nung bata pa ako, sa school namin pag sinabi mong may tutor ka, parang it means you need help catching up?

^ It's not standard, but with more families having two full-time working parents nowadays, there's a need for a tutor.  Just imagine the 3-4 homework per day load of most big schools.  Your child, especially if he is very young pa, might need a tutor to help him finish those assignments kesa naman hintayin niya dumating parents niya from work and mapuyat siya.  This is also why hesitant pa ko up to now ilagay sa traditional school ang kids ko because with my workload now + travel time from my workplace to my house (I work in Makati but I live in QC), hindi ko kakayanin mag-tutor ng 2 kids ko each night. 

If you pass by Katipunan, you will see that tutorial centers are booming.

medyo OT pero i was just wondering...baket nga kaya nung time ko (i was in kinder at age 5, back in 1978... do the math na lang.  ) hindi nga uso yang mga tutor-tutor na yan? ang me tutor lang eh yung mga nanganganib bumagsak.

my mom was the sole breadwinner and as far as i can remember, walang nagtuturo saken before... my lolo tried pero nagtatalo kami palagi how to do it (like doing the basic strokes for writing). since sinawaan na lolo ko (maaga siyang nagsawa) mag-try na turuan ako, sarili ko ng diskarte ang pag-aaral at paggawa ng assignments until i graduated in college.

ang anak ko (4yo) ang hirap turuan! laging kesyo pagod na, inaantok, nagugutom, nauuhaw... anything to get him off the table and stop doing what he is being taught... again, basic strokes in writing palang ang tinuturo ko. i was thinking nga tuloy kung need nga ipa-tutor kasi i'm such a bad teacher... wala akong patience at teaching skills talaga.

kaya naisip ko hindi dapat sa traditional school ang anak ko at malamang eh mahirapan siya... at yung teacher. so i'm keeping my fingers crossed na The Growing Place is 'the one' for my son.

^ boys din ang mga anak ko, ganyan din, maraming excuses especially when we practice writing.  Mas madaling turuan ang girls.

They're turning 5 in June.  Last year, when they were 4 years old, pahirapan kami diyan sa writing exercises (mommy-imposed).  Pero now, nag-improve na ang writing skills nila.   Pina-therapy ko pa nga sila para mag-improve ang tripod grip at lumakas ang finger and hand muscles nila kasi mahina kaya hirap silang humawak ng pencil dati.  Ngayon okay na ang tripod grip nila.

Mas gusto ng mga anak ko ang spelling.     They're able to spell 3, 4 and sometimes, 5 letter words.

Huwag mo munang pilitin magsulat ang anak mo if hindi pa siya ready.  Instead, practice mo ang tripod grip niya by moulding clay, buttoning and unbuttoning, using chopsticks, etc.  All these exercises are also being done in their school and sabi nga ng teachers ng sons ko, the process is more important than the result.  If tama ang process, magiging tama ang result later on.  Huwag ka lang mainip.

OT: yung tungkol sa tutor, yan din ang inaassess ko sa amin mag-ina kung kailangan namin (sa anak para maturuan, sa akin para d malagas hair ko). Pero gusto ko malaman kung kaya ng anak ko matuto na sa sarili nya at sa klase, walang tutor at walang kumon or enopi. Ok naman daughter ko at I pray na ganito lagi.

^ Siguro depende din sa tutor.  May tutor na siya na lang gagawa lahat para matapos kaagad.  May tutor naman na andiyan lang nakaantabay para masigurado na tama ang ginagawa ng bata.  Yung latter ang gusto ko na tutor.

parang gusto kong mag-agree kay stormy. lol! hindi monopoly ng boys ang arte during study time. ang anak ko naman parang may kiti-kiti sa puwet. hindi makatagal ng isang minuto sa upuan na hindi gumagalaw.

raspberryglace, i think you should also factor in na advanced din ang lessons ng mga kids now as compared to our time (pero hindi ibig sabihin mag-kasing age tayo ha, ate  ). i remember when i was in grade school i used to tutor my younger brother, hindi ganon ka-complicated lessons nila as compared sa lessons ng daughter ko now.

S will have her phase 2 of exams for a preschool in QC next week. Reading ang topic. Required kasi that they should know how to read by the time they enter kinder 2 (equivalent to k1 in some schools). Ang weird nga they didn't have a written test but merong reading. Doble kayod tuloy kami with review nowadays.

^ Napaka-rigorous naman ng requirement.

In Ateneo, hindi naman yata required that a child can read for admission to prep. Our friend's son could not read yet when he entered Ateneo prep.

^ateneo prep is a level before grade 1 right? Rigorous talaga considering that level is just a level after nursery. I even had to repeat if i heard it right na reading. Anyway, todo dasal na Lang na makapasa.

For reference of others, for this year poveda is Php 111k for kinder 2 and Php 115k for kinder 3. Uniforms and books not included. Rate might change for next school year.

thanks sis marose for the tips! was already at my wits end kung ano gagawin ko sa anak ko. naapaisip na nga akong ipa-diagnose kung me ADHD ba siya or any other learning disorder. kasi hirap na hirap talaga akong pasunurin siya sa mga tinuturo kong gagawin nya. 2 puyo eh! 

sensya na first-time mommy at my age at ang basis ko lang eh yung paglaki ko at yung nakita ko sa mga pinsan ko while they were growing up.

speaking of my pinsan... ipina-tutor din yung pinsan kong lalake kasi hindi nga maka-keep up sa school. pero yun nga ang nakita ko, yung tutor na ang gumagawa ng assignments para matapos na siguro at ng makauwi na siya.

anong therapy ang pinasukan ng anak mo to improve their tripod grip?

To set my expectations, ano na ba ang itinuturo sa kinder ngayon? What's the curriculum like? Like raspberryglace04, ang basis ko rin lang sa kung ano ang itinuturo ko sa anak ko ay kung ano ang alam ko noon. At kinder (5 yo), in our neighborhood school, I remember we were taught how to read, write, do math (2-digit addition/subtraction, more than (>), less than (<)). By the time I entered Grade 1 at 6 yo in a big school, all of my classmates already knew how to read and write (muntik pa akong maiyak nung 1st day kasi finished na halos lahat ng classmates ko kumopya ng assignment sa board, ako nagsusulat pa rin).

I also like LINKS. There were about 7 kids in one class. they all greeted us as
soon as we got in , except for one who hid under the table they would
approach V, asked her if she wants to play, offered her different toys, they
entertained us very well, kahit wag na kami eentertain ni teacher, the kids can
do it. these were 3 yo kids. they can say a complete sentence. english straight.

They started with e free play
Then singing and dancing
Then they all sat down and they were taught alphabets, words, etc.
Then story telling. Since the story involved a TURNIP, the teacher had a real
turnip. Hahha. Then they let the children feel the turnip, and asked if how it
felt. ang galing. they all said ROUGH! hahaha Tapos they know what gigantic
means. kaloka
They had to stop the class at 9am kasi may practice pa sila for a school event. Normally hanggang 11am ang class.

S V naman, hesistant pa sya at first, nung huli na, lumayo na din sya sa akin to
play on some toys, not to interect much though. nahihiya pa sya.

pero nung umupo na sila in front of the teacher, ayaw na ni V

yung isang bata doon na nagtago sa ilalim ng table, ang likot din, hindi din
mapaupo tapos laro pa din ng laro.

they also teach the kids ng table manners (kasi they have snack time), brushing
their teeth, hygiene, dressing up, etc.

The room is quite big, compared doon sa pinasukan kong room sa CHILD.

My only concern is the place, the school looks a bit old. sa CR (sariling CR ng
mga toddlers) also a bit old style since old house nga ito. Yan lang naman. I
dont know if this is a valid concern or negligible naman?

Then second floor din ang room ng toddler class. So medyo worry lang ako sa safety ng kids in going up and down the stairs.

By the way, nung palabas ang mga kids, pinapila sila, ang galing very
disciplined din. Meron kasi mga colored steps banda sa door, the teacher would
just assign a color for each child and boom, doon nga sila nagpupunta. sa totoo
lang, i was impressed. hindi rowdy ang kids.

Security Guards and the KUYAs were very helpful, courteous and alerto or mabilis kumilos.
That's it so far.

Next week, I intend to go to DML and Holy. Then in March, nakaschedule kami ng trial class sa CHILD.
