Preschools in QuezonCity II

^ One of my choices for preschool was Miriam's Child Study Center.  CSC has nice facilities, I love the library.  The method is semi-progressive for First Step but traditional na for the next levels, you can easily gauge it from the lay-out of the classrooms.  Kinda big class size, forgot na how many per class, around 18-20 students yata.  Maraming school activities, which may be good or not good, depending on one's viewpoint.  Tuition is comparable to other preschools along the Katipunan and Loyola Heights area.  It's big for a preschool.  Maganda raw ang batting average ng Miriam sa big schools like Ateneo (may boys kasi sa CSC) kaya I checked it out.

I eventually chose a Montessori preschool in Loyola Heights for my children.

^^ thanks so much for the feedback, sis marose17.  i didn't realize that miriam pala has a preschool until i saw it in the list of preschools of another site.  i got attracted to it because it has an afternoon class. since we are from valenzuela, a morning class for my son will be a bit challenging.  my concern now is the student-teacher ratio.  i am not sure if an 18-20 class size is okay for my son's age.... i want him in a school that is average in size (not too big nor too small) with afternoon class... hope there is one in quezon city area.  again, thanks for replying :-)

^For Caterpillar (ages 2.5-3.2) they have 10:30-12:30pm.  Cocoon (ages 3.3-4) there's a 9am-12pm class and an 11:30a.m.-2:30pm class.

hi again, mommies.  i saw the websites of nest grade school and pedia house (pediamorphosis).  would really appreciate the feedbacks from mommies with kids enrolled in these schools as well as those who are considering these schools for their kids. thanks so much in advance! :-)

Kidschool (but they only accept potty trained. My daughter is only 2 in June. So kung by Oct e potty trained na sya, pwede siguro sya ng Nov dito? Heh. Super OK kasi ang feedback ni sis pinkcoyote and S1 is really a super smart and bibo kid)

^ In New Manila, why don't you check out DML Montessori?  My cousin and my inaanak studied there.

@lenieliam, since you are considering Pediahouse, I assume you are not averse to putting your kid in a preschool within Loyola Heights (though ang layo na from Valenzuela to be honest).  The preschool of my sons (Family Montessori) has an afternoon class from 12 pm to 3 pm.  Even the preschool near Family, Montessori Child Development Center, has an afternoon class.  Both schools are along Esteban Abada Street in Loyola Heights, parallel to Katipunan Avenue.  Montessori method sa schools I mentioned and thus, the classes are vertical, teaching is individualized and the environment follows the prepared environment of Maria Montessori, very different from a traditional preschool.

Pediahouse, by the way, is an institution na in Loyola Heights.  It's a traditional preschool.

^ hi, sis marose17.  i'll try to go on-leave next week to check-out preschools.  yup, pediahouse is really far from valenzuela.  it's about an hour away if there is not much traffic.  kaya lang, i've been looking for a school in the area of caloocan, malabon and valenzuela since 2008 and couldn't find one that i like.  so, i have accepted the fact that my son's school will be in quezon city. siguro, this is a sign din that i might have to look for a place in quezon city for my son to be close to his school.   

i called-up nest grade school and they said that they have an afternoon class. i'll check nest as well next week.  saw a feedback nga lang that the school is small. :-(

^ Nest was on my shortlist too a few years ago.  I am a fan of Teacher Tina's blog (What is a Progressive School).   She is the owner and directress of Nest.  Judging from her blog, she is a proponent of the progressive method of education and she has the credentials to boot.

Ako naman, my top priority in selecting a school is the directress + the faculty.  Secondary ang magandang building + facilities.  My sons' preschool is small din but the classrooms are roomy and complete sa Montessori materials.  I also love the teachers who are well-trained, patient, nurturing and really know the temperament, learning style and work habit of my sons.

If you're looking for a preschool with a big building and lots of space, check out Miriam CSC.  Nice talaga the facilities there.

^ miriam is also on my list because of their afternoon schedule.  i am not really so kin on the school size but the school has an area sana where my son can play and run around.  we live in a townhouse kaya the space is very limited for him na.  i'll check-out nest para mas maming options. 

btw, for the mommies who have already checked-out mind specialist, okay po ba?  i called this tuesday and the one who answered sounded not so friendly, mejo parang tinatamad pang sumagot.  i felt a tad disappointed after that conversation :-(

^ The best way is to schedule a visit to the schools in your shortlist.  Ask  the principal or directress if your son can sit-in or join the class that day so you can see if he likes the school.

Make it soon.  For this coming school year na ba?   Mabilis mapuno ang slots ng magagandang preschools.  Returning students kasi usually reserve their slots na by this time/before summer so more or less, yung slots na iiwanan ng mga mag-graduate or move up ang matitira.

^ hi, sis marose17.  yup, its for this coming school year na.  i'll try to check the exact location of the schools included in my list this weekend.  i'll try to come-up with a "shorter" list by sunday.  hopefully, i go on leave next week so i can accompany my son for the trial class.  btw, i saw a montessori along visayas avenue.  i think it's called maria montessori.  that one is a bit closer.  okay po ba doon?

let's be careful on the word "montessori".  Many schools today adopt that word but do not actually practice the montessori method. : )  You may want to check out:  Gingerbread House of Learning in Congressional Avenue or Creative Explorers in Visayas Avenue.  There is also Early Achievers but I am not partial to their location since there is an establishment beside them selling gases or the like

^^ The Maria Montessori school along Visayas Avenue is quite a big school.  I have no idea if it is an authentic Montessori school.

^ I agree.  Many schools (including a very famous school) append the Montessori name to their school, but the method of teaching does not at all adhere to Maria Montessori's principles.  Generally, if the school has levels for every year, a class composed of children of more or less the same age, has a blackboard and the lay-out of the classroom is such that all the students are facing that board, has one lesson for the whole class, does not have the Montessori materials and a Montessori-trained directress or teacher, it is not really a school that is practicing the Montessori method.
