^^^

Bipolar disorders are classified into 2: Bipolar I (most recent episode hypomanic or most episode manic) and Bipolar II.  I have a copy of DSM IV and medyo technical ang definitions and maraming sub-classifications for Bipolar disorders. The DSM is used by most, if not all, psychiatrists and psychologists to diagnose mental and psychological disorders. But anyway, I'll post here the diagnostic criteria for BPD II.

1.  presence or history of one or more major depressive episodes
2.  presence or history of at least one hypomanic episode
3. there has never been a manic episode or a mixed episode
4.  mood symptoms in the first 2 are not accounted for Schizoaffective disorder and are not superimposed on Schizophrenia, Schizophreniform Disorder, Delusional Disorder, or Psychotic Disorder Not Otherwise Specified.
5.  the symptoms cause clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational or important areas of functioning.

You also have to get the diagnostic criteria for major depressive episodes and hypomanic episodes.  Tapos you have to specify pa kung mild, severe, etc. yung major depressive or hypomanic depressive episodes.  Before you can be diagnosed with BPD II dapat yang 5 lang yan eh nag-eexist.

Just an overview, here are some symptoms of major depressive disorders within a 2-week period:

1.  insomnia or hypersomnia nearly every day
2.  fatigue or loss of energy nearly every day.
3.  feelings of worthlessness or excessive inappropriate guilt
4.  recurrent thoughts of death, recurrent suicidal ideation without a specific plan, or a suicide attempt or a specific plan for committing suicide.

Marami pa pero masyadong maraming criteria before ka madiagnose as someone with BPD. :)

I have some friends diagnosed with BPD, but they took Tegretol, Zoloft, Prozac, and another drug I can't quite recall. Not lithium. They've reported their medications to have an overall numbing effect on all the emotional states; one of them described it as being zombie-like, but it made it easier for them to function with daily executive tasks and decisions.

I was molested by relativeS when I was a kid about 5 to 20 y.o.

I grew up seeing my mom beaten to death by stepf.

We were always treated the least, or most of  the time ignored.

We're broken family.

--------

I am breaking down seeing drunk people near me.

I hold like knife everytime I cannot control anger the  I slash something to release it.

and I am fine after that.

Madali ako magalit, magwala smashing things here and there.

Madali ako matuwa, mabilis din akong umiyak.

Scared of death but positive of suicidal ideation.

Parang I need to know, may masasaktan ba? May mag-ssave ba saken?
At pag namatay na ba ako wala ng problema? 💔

And never ako nagpacheck up.

My husband keep telling me to avoid all my relatives including Mom and brothers

I diagnoses myself kase as attention seeker kaya I dont go for check ups,
Kase I grew up nga na walang attention mom and papa..
may ibang family kaya ayun thinking ko.

The problem is, when I get mad I tend to hit my kid,

So I decided na magpacheck up and eto  nagresearch na ako about it.

it's been months na and i feel worthless and all. i lost focus and napapaisip ko ano pa papupuntahan life ko? because i have kids i have to tend to, i always have to drag myself out of bed and send them to school. but everyday nandyan yung thought na feeling worthless and waiting for the night to come, maglasing and itulog to. i know mali na kaya i went to psychiatrist. she gave me mood stabilizer kasi depressed daw ako and she asked me if bipolar daw ba ako.. i was like, ano yun? ako ba ang doctor? that's why nandun ako to figure this out.
sa ibang psychiatrists, how did it go po ba?

Was reading through the posts... yung iba hindi ko alam kung borderline personality, yung iba not sure kung major depressive disorder (clinical depression) or dysthymia (milder depression). Wala kasi nakapag mention ng manic episodes... Para masabing bipolar ang kondisyon mo, kailangan may manic and depressive episodes. Episodes -- so hindi ito personality pattern.

just for psycho-education purposes, here are the symptoms of Mania from DSM-V:

A. A distinct period of abnormally and persistently elevated, expansive, or irritable mood
and abnormally and persistently increased goal-directed activity or energy, lasting at
least 1 week and present most of the day, nearly every day (or any duration if hospi
talization is necessary).

B. During the period of mood disturbance and increased energy or activity, three (or
more) of the following symptoms (four if the mood is only irritable) are present to a significant degree and represent a noticeable change from usual behavior:

1. Inflated self-esteem or grandiosity (eg sobrang taas ng confidence level).
2. Decreased need for sleep (e.g., feels rested after only 3 hours of sleep) (kahit kulang ang tulog mo or hindi ka nakatulog for a few days, ang taas pa rin ng energy level mo).
3. More talkative than usual or pressure to keep talking (Sobrang daldal mo or lakas ng boses mo hindi makasingit yung kinakausap mo).
4. Flight of ideas or subjective experience that thoughts are racing (Ang hirap intindihin ng mga sinasabi mo, kung saan saang topic napupunta, at ikaw rin, ang bilis ng mga thoughts mo hindi mo mahabol).
5. Distractibility (i.e., attention too easily drawn to unimportant or irrelevant external
stimuli), as reported or observed (ang bilis mong madistract sa mga irrelevant na bagay).
6. Increase in goal-directed activity (either socially, at work or school, or sexually) or
psychomotor agitation (i.e., puφoseless non-goal-directed activity).
7. Excessive involvement in activities that have a high potential for painful conse
quences (e.g., engaging in unrestrained buying sprees, sexual indiscretions, or
foolish business investments).

C. The mood disturbance is sufficiently severe to cause marked impairment in social or
occupational functioning or to necessitate hospitalization
to prevent harm to self or oth
ers, or there are psychotic features.

-----------------------

Bipolar 2, milder form ng mania (hypomania). You can still function in your school or work despite your excessive energy.

------------------------
Ito naman yung symptoms ng Major Depressive Disorder, which should alternate with mania, for your condition to be called bipolar.

1. Depressed mood most of the day, nearly every day, as indicated by either subjec
tive report (e.g., feels sad, empty, hopeless) or observation made by others (e.g.,
appears tearful). (Note: In children and adolescents, can be irritable mood.)
2. Markedly diminished interest or pleasure in all, or almost all, activities most of the
day, nearly every day (as indicated by either subjective account or observation).
3. Significant weight loss when not dieting or weight gain (e.g., a change of more than
5% of body weight in a month), or decrease or increase in appetite nearly every day.
4. Insomnia or hypersomnia nearly every day (This is different sa sleep deficiency ng bipolar, kasi here, you want to sleep but you couldn't).
5. Psychomotor agitation or retardation nearly every day (observable by others, not
merely subjective feelings of restlessness or being slowed down).
6. Fatigue or loss of energy nearly every day.
7. Feelings of worthlessness or excessive or inappropriate guilt (which may be delu
sional) nearly every day (not merely self-reproach or guilt about being sick).
8. Diminished ability to think or concentrate, or indecisiveness, nearly every day (ei
ther by subjective account or as observed by others).
9. Recurrent thoughts of death (not just fear of dying), recurrent suicidal ideation with
out a specific plan, or a suicide attempt or a specific plan for committing suicide.

B. The symptoms cause clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational
tional, or other important areas of functioning.
-----------
hope this clarifies a bit...

@kaiz

If I remembered it correctly, you came from an abusive marriage, right?

Ganyan na ba yung experiences mo before your marriage? Oh naging ganyan lang during and after the marriage?

Dahil araw araw ako nag-IF.
Basta most of the time lately ay malungkot ako. I always try to reach out.

So kahit walang energy e napipilitan ako bumangon nang maaga. Actually 2years ago nadepress ako for so many reasons, problems sa mga bata. Panay away at panay kalat at maiingay. Nakakastress..sarap sana magstress eat. Sayang lang ang pinaghirapan kong weightloss kaya nagtitiis ako sa gutom during fasting period..di bale malapit na ang july at magkakaron na ako ng time magpa-massage or magmall mag-isa.

^^sis glamorosa _09 pano malalaman Kung borderline personality disorder? Iniisip ko. Lang if my husband is one. Nakak focus naman sya sa ibang bagay tulad ng sa sasakyan dahil hilig Nya , sa work tumatagal sya ng most was two years.  Pag magsisimula sya ng work very eager sya makapag simula pero after a month or two puro complains na sya. I just find it weird yun ibang iniiisip Nya about other people kasi ako never ko maiisip yun ganun ka nega about other people lalo na Kung Di ko naman kilala personally. Actually hiwalay na Kami since December  Pero naisip ko Lang if he belongs to the borderline personality disorder.

Hmmm... You asked how to know if your ex has borderline. To really know if someone has mental illness, the person needs to be assessed by a professional. Kailangan ng extensive interview ng client or with family members, psychological tests, and observations.

Pero kung usapang tambay sa kanto/forum lang, we can talk about it, hehe... di naman tayo nagdadiagnose, just for the sake of understanding.

Kung pervasive yung paranoia nya, you can check out paranoid personality disorder kung may tendency sa ganun. Meron din iyang symptom of emotional instability/lability.

Yung borderline, like paranoid, emotionally labile din. Pero the paranoia revolves around perceived abandonment, which could profoundly impact their emotions and behaviors. Here, there is an intense fear of abandonment and presence of suicidal behaviors.

^thank you sa reply. Yes I have seen that paranoia hindi naman ganun ka grabe but in general wala syang tiwala sa Tao.
situation like buying things online Hindi Nya sinasabi Kung taga saan talaga sya.

Abandonment? They were abandoned by his dad when he was in high school. This had greatly impacted his life pero he is mid 40's na, I'm not sure if Ito pa din ang cause? But yes meron syang great fear of abandonment.

Sorry Kung off topic na to.

^Hmm... I can't say sis and I couldn't guess. I just make guesses and comments here when something deviant jumped out at me from the posts.

But what you said about
-- impact of parental abandonment in his personality
-- distrust in the people and of the world

These could be products of his negative childhood experiences, and not necessarily tendencies of a personality disorder (PD). It is natural to be mistrustful of the world if your parents, the very people who should protect and nurture you, have been unreliable/neglectful/unpredictable. Not all emotionally dysfunctional people in a dysfunctional relationships have PD, sometimes wounded lang talaga sila and wala rin silang good relational role models.

But if you have observed other behaviors from him (aside from work ethics, mistrust, parental abandonment) which warranted your suspicion of  borderline, I suggest that you read about marital experiences with someone who has borderline, and see if you can relate with their experiences. :) I understand that you want to make sense of what happened in your previous marriage.

You can start here https://blogs.psychcentral.com/therapy-soup/2014/02/borderline-personality-disorder-fear-of-abandonment-and-relationships/
