Anyone on a maintenance dose? My brother still gets the occasional acne and he is too lazy to use the acne.org regimen everyday..

sushisundance: may waiver form na ipapa-sign sayo before prescribing isotret, i-e-explain sayo ang side effects and dapat sure ka na hindi ka pregnant, or not planning to, at least 3 months ata. madaming child abnormalities kasi. So if planning na to have a baby, di siya recommended. If you also plan to buy it sa pharmacy, i-co-confiscate nila yung prescription after buying, para hindi ka makabili higher than the recommended dosage, and maibigay mo sa iba. Some dermas require you to have a liver profile, etc. din muna before ka bigyan.

sandata: the dose naman differs per case ng acne sa person and their weight. derma naman magdedecide on what dose ipapa-take sayo. extreme case na siguro yun 60mg/day. when i started 10mg/day lang ako in 3 months. sa weight ko, 40mg ang full dose. pero na-clear naman ako after 1.5months. kaya on my 4th month, 30mg/week na lang ako. yung pagtaas ng dose, siguro hindi responsive sa isotret and low-dose kaya tinaasan.

ajtee: sis grabe din ang dry lips ko, pati face nung naka 10mg/day pa ako. so i use moisturizer (take note, super oily ako pero na-dry agad lol). Are you still taking it now on maintenance? Parang dapat ata gradual i-stop diba, kahit naka-full course? After ko kasi mag MWF, once a week naman bago i-stop. Today marks my 1 year. :)

i still use the maintenance dose.. pero i dont take it everyday anymore hehe i used to take it 2x a day.. 20mg morning then 10mg evening (Roaccutane) for about 9mos i reckon then i stopped na kasi baka makasama na sakin hehe. i still have the 20mg caps and i still have 3 mos prescription pero i dont take it daily anymore tipong 1x a week? or 2x a week hehe.. i dont break out anymore din kasi... actually pag bumibili nga ako nito sa pharmacy nagugulat yung mga pharmacist bakit daw ako nag gaganon sabi ko dati kasi may break outs ako.. malakas kasi talaga tong gamot na ito. i remember Kristine Hermose was using this before kaya pala super ganda ng skin niya! gusto ko sana i-take to forever to maintain good skin haha pero since i stopped it a year ago na maintain naman yung skin ko :) I am very happy.. & true nagpa liver test din ako after taking this for a month nung una kong ginamit. at oo magddry talaga lahat! as in lahat ng parte ng katawan mo hehe kaya moisturize galore dapat esp the lips which i really hate hindi ako makapaglipstick ng maayos.. at super di ako nagooily sa face..

Hi there! How is your skin from taking 20mg once or twice a week? Is it 100% clear of pimples, whiteheads and blackheads? Since you are only taking it once a week, Are you experiencing any side effects aside from dry lips? A little hair loss maybe or thinning of skin? When are you planning to stop taking it? With this low dose, can you eat (dairy, gluten, sweets, pizza) whatever you want and not get a single zit?

@unwantedP: My last phase of acnetrex was taking it once a day for three months. Then after nun stop na. I'm no longer on maintenance because honestly I hate the meds and I don't want to prolong my intake of it. I'm no doctor but I guess for maintenance pwede na yung vitamin A because accutane is essentially a very big dose of vitamin A... Maybe much safer, but just like accutane taking vitamin A for a long period of time needs to be closely monitored because high levels of this vitamin can be toxic.

^oooh. i guess mas mahaba maintenance pag low dose dahil sa relapse. i still take it kahit 1 year na ko. sa 5th month ko kasi when i stopped for 3 weeks nagka-breakouts ako, nagkasakit kasi ako nun and ayaw ko magtake ng isotret kasi baka ma-complicate yung meds na iniinom ko that time. kaya i'm actually contemplating if bibili pa ako after maubos yung isotret ko, kasi grabe yung complications sa child birth. i don't have any plans pa naman pero just to be sure in the future. although my doctor assured me not to worry since she is monitoring me naman. may nabasa ako na parang 15 years after she took isotret, andun padin effect sa kanya, sort of became permanent, dry lips, dry V so hirap daw mag-S. and hindi din pwede mag baby. scary.

Would like to join this thread. I'm starting to take Acutrex din kasi. I just started 4 days ago. I'm worried kasi sa lahat ng nabasa ko dito dryness and effect pero ako sobrang oily ng skin ko. I need to put powder every now and then sa sobrang oily. I'm wondering why. 30mg ako a day.

^oily face din ako before i started, now normal skin na ako. i used to blot 3-5x a day ata. basta baon ko lagi mac blot ko, i re-apply 3x a day, and sa gabi 2 oil control films nagagamit ko before i sleep. now, i don't need the mac blot powder and 1/8 na lang ang oil na na-a-absorb ng oil blot film ko. napansin ko dryness ng lips ko after a few weeks pa, when the med is starting to take effect na. the med kasi will reduce the amount of sebum na i-pproduce.

This is looong because I want to be as informative as possible. Just want to share my experience for those still deciding if Acnetrex is for them. Acne was a bad experience for me, and I hope anyone out there who is still suffering will find a cure ASAP.

I was on Acnetrex two years ago (two capsules a day), and it did miracles to my skin. My natural skin is super oily so kailangan maya't maya ang pagblot, which can be too much of a hassle since I was still a student at the time. For the first few weeks to around two months, lumabas cystic pimples ko. That was an ugly experience, kasi malalaki talaga at masakit. But after around three months, naging okay na. People always complimented me, not just my skin. (I'm not saying this to brag, but to point out how miraculous Acnetrex is!) As I said, oily yung skin ko pre-Acnetrex so I had to retouch all the time. With around eight months to a year of Acnetrex, ni hindi ko kailangan mag-make up at all. My regimen used to be powder and eyeliner. With Acnetrex, option nalang yun. I also used to have a bad case of body acne, but I could wear sleeveless tops again. My skin was that good. Grabe yung improvement! Also, it helped regulate my menstruation. (Keep in mind that I never drank alcohol or smoked, so feel ko na-maximize ko yung gamot.)

After more than a year, though, naging dry na masyado yung skin ko. My mouth would always be dry. Nothing that I couldn't tolerate naman, pero uncomfortable pa rin. My eyes would be so dry too. Mabilis magka-muta. Also, alam niyo yung feeling na pag tumitingin ka sa araw, it's so blinding? I think they were too dry. During that time, I would be extra emotional too. After a few more months, I stopped na rin kasi sabi ng derma ko okay na daw ako. I'm not sure if it's Acnetrex's promise or something I just made up, pero based on what I remember, dapat never na ako magkaka-acne ulit. Okay yung skin ko for around the next eight months siguro. But after a year, bumalik narin sa dati.

So December last year, I tried my luck with Acnetrex again. My derma said that was fine. I don't know how accurate this is, but I don't think I went through a purging stage anymore. Siguro may one to two cystic pimples, but nothing that make-up couldn't cover. By February or March ata, my skin was starting to look good again. People also started saying na blooming daw ako. But the side effects were worse! I also got external hemorrhoids. I stopped eventually kasi hindi na kaya ng budget ko tsaka I figured that since Acnetrex is scary (in terms of side effects), I should just find other ways to take care of my skin na mas madali i-maintain like good diet, good water intake and exercise.

In summary, Acnetrex is good in that it can do wonders for you and your skin. But since it's the kind of drug that you take in (na marami talagang possible side effects sa katawan), nakakatakot rin siya in the long run. Based on personal experience, there is no guarantee that one's acne will go away forever. Worth it naman siya kung sobrang bad case of acne yung meron kayo, but you have to take care of your liver too. Should you decide to push through with Acnetrex, make sure you eat fruits all the time, drink lots of water, get enough sleep, exercise, don't drink or smoke, avoid junk food. Basta take care of your liver! Don't abuse it. Great skin is useless if other parts of your body are suffering.

Hope this helped anyone! ;)

^Sorry to hear that sis. Yung dryness is super common talaga, and usually it starts sa lips. But case to case basis nga naman. I didn't experienced purging during my first month. And naka-monitor ako every month sa derma ko so she could assess if tama pa ang dosage ko. After three months since nawala na ang pimples ko, nagpalit na ako ng dosage to 3x a week.

Did your derma reduce your dosage ba after mag dry ng skin mo or after mag subside pimples mo? How long ka naka-two capsules a day? Yung joints and depression is very uncommon. If ganyan nga na-eexprience mong side effects, it's not worth it. :( I guess you could try to change your diet na lang to help maintain clear skin. Ako kasi pasaway, I don't eat vegetables and sleep past midnight everyday (swerte na 6hrs a day) so super dependent ako sa isotret. ;D

However, such lower dosage courses may be associated with higher relapse rates, requiring additional courses, especially if not taken for sufficient time

^ Yes, I was expecting dryness talaga kasi yun naman ginagawa ng gamot. Sa emotions naman, ready rin ako because Acnetrex works with hormones. I don't remember how long I was taking Acnetrex twice a day but eventually naging once a day yung dosage sakin. But during the second time, even once a day felt like too much. Now that I think about it though hindi pala ako closely minonitor ng derma ko. Pwede pala yung thrice a day? My gosh! I should have done that instead. I'm super oily again kasi, and I'm still looking for good products to battle this.

Can I know ano yung mga na-eexperience mong side effects kung meron man and if it is your first time?

Thanks, unwantedP! :)

^i started May 10, 2012 sis. 3 months lang ako naka-once a day. then 3x/week na since nawala na acne ko. I'm still on maintenance dose now kasi mabilis relapse ko.

Yung dose depends on your weight and needs. I forgot the formula pero based on my weight, around 92lbs ata ako that time, so 40mg ang full dose ko. But since hindi naman worse ang acne ko, and not cystic, just stubborn and doesn't respond to meds (sensitive din kasi skin ko so super baba ng mga salycic acid na binibigay sakin, even tretinoin cream 0.025% would make my skin red), i was given 10mg/day lang. Dry na dry na skin ko by the third month, may flakes na. So naging 30mg/WEEK na lang ako.

In terms of side effects, dryness lang talaga naging kalaban ko. But may moisturizer naman. :)

Hi everyone! I just have a quick question about Isotretinon. I'm currently taking it. Naka 1 month na rin ako. How soon ba makikita ang reults? Saka will it really worsen the acne? Masama ba na magundergo ng facial cleaning while taking the med?

^ With me, around 2-3 months. You have to really be patient kasi kung hihintayin mo yung effect, mapapagod ka lang. Yung lalabas yung pimples mo, it's really part of the process. It's called the purging stage. While a lucky few don't experience that, most do. Pero siyempre you have to constantly check with your derma at baka may adverse effects pala sayo ang Isotret.

I don't think you should have facials kasi mas sensitive ang skin while on Isotret. Avoid the sun, too.

^^sis sa akin 3 weeks may improvement na. by 1st month maganda na yung skin. kaya nagpa-prick ako nung 1st time ko tinake kasi di pa agad makikita improvement. i didn't experience purging naman pero case to case basis din depending on your skin and acne. also, by facial cleaning sis depends ano gagawin sa face mo. since mas sensitive ang nagtatake ng meds, bawal yun mga chemical peel etc. pero prick pwede :)

I'm taking acutrex for almost 2 months now, so far wala ng tumubong pimple saken. Last time nagkapimple ako was on my 3rd week of taking it which pasok pa sa purging stage ng 1month.

I'm taking 40mg a day. I'm 126 lbs, and taking the meds all at the same time after lunch. Okay lang ba yun? My doctor told me para di na daw bumalik pimples you need to take the same dosage from start to end or else may tendency na bumalik sya after ilang months of not taking it. Hindi ako masyado mapimple but cystic kung magkaron at super lalaki before. Hopefully maging okay na rin face ko.

I'm planning to take glutathione sana while taking isotretinoin. Possible ba kaya yun? Anyone tried it?

my brother is using acnetrex from once a day it was increased to twice a day since at first it seems it's not improving. But now after how many  months i guess more than 6 months we really notice the big difference.

he already went to different dermatologists and prescribed him topical solutions and all and yet we didn't see much improvement. But with acnetrex a bit expensive but at least it's working. the next visit to the derma she's going to determine if he can go back to once a day. I'm just not sure what she'll do to the scars and keloid. I believe they'll do injections...ouch!
