PH Travel Tax FAQs
« on: April 02, 2010, 02:27:56 am »
For those going out of Philippines, please share your experience naman when you went to get a travel tax exemption at DOT. I've been gone for 2 1/2 years, and first time ko lang nakauwi ng Pilipinas, and will be back to US next week.

Gaano katagal ang processing ng exemption? mahaba ba pila?

I'm a permanent resident na and just stayed a month dito sa Pilipinas, qualified ako right?

normally sis kung bibili ka ng ticket sa travel agent no need to go to DOT to get the travel tax exemption kasi bibigay mo lang yun copy ng latest stamp of arrival mo and the front copy ng passport mo. If you will purchase the ticket from the direct airline ang alam ko ganun din yun process e.

Since you're a US permanent resident staying in the country, yes, you are exempt from the PH tax. I am assuming you already have a return tkt back to the US? Anyway, either way, you can secure the TEC at the airport prior to checking in. Super fast lang. Just present your passport and green card. I used to go to PTA/DOT itself to secure RTTs for my kids so I can avail of 50% ng PH TAX. Naku, during times like this na start of the summer season, it's hell there. Mostly kasabay mo are travel agencies' liaison officers and OFW dependents na kumukuha rin. Matagal din wait dun plus the facilities are old. Luckily, I was able to secure my kids' RTTS (reduced travel tax certificates) at NAIA2 thru my husband, who is a pilot (supposedly only departing passengers are allowed to enter the terminals, right), kahit di pa ko purchase right now ng tkts. I don't need to go to Manila anymore para makipagsiksikan. I've been in the airline biz since 1999 and I've had countless passengers in your same position. :o Good for you nga, you are aware of the PH tax exemption. Most aren't knowledgeable about it at all.

" Filipino Overseas Contract Workers

   1. If hired through POEA, Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC) from POEA
   2. If directly hired abroad, a Certificate of Employment issued by the Philippine Embassy/Consulate in the place of hire or an employment contract authenticated by the Philippine Embassy/Consulate "

I got this info from their site.

Does it mean pag pumunta ako ng Hongkong from Pinas  for leisure tour exempted na din ako sa travel tax as long as may OEC ako?

Sa pagkakaalam ko kasi, exempted lang ako sa travel tax going back to Dubai from Pinas as long as may OEC ako kasi that is where I am working.

Please enlighten me. Thank you.

^For OFWs, you just have to show your residence card. I've done that a few times already, kahit contract hindi nila hinihingi.

I am just talking to my friend now. She is working in Dubai and she went for a two months vacation sa Pinas last year. During her vacation she organized a trip for her family to HK. She went to Philippine Tourism Authority (PTA) with her documents and they still charge her for a travel tax even she is an OFW. Dahil daw pupunta sya ng HK as tourist and not as an OFW.

Please enlighten me on this. Thank you!

^Hi badmonkey, my sis is an OFW on Singapore, working as nurse, ang alam ko you can only use the OEC if you're going back to the country where you're working at. Call the DOT hotline to make sure.

^^^Correct yung sabi sa yo ng DOT. Even if OFW ka but the purpose of your travel is as a Tourist, you still pay the Travel Tax. Ganyan ginagawa ni sis and bro-in-law everytime they go to the US or around Asia departing from here. They both work in the Middle East.

Sis, most often, konti ang tao. Kung sampo kayo ang nandoon, within the hour makukuha mo na. kahit 20 pa nga siguro kayo within 1-2 hours. i dont think it will reach 1.5 hours.

1-2x a year akong umuuwi sa pinas since 2006 and never akong naghintay ng more than 2 hours in all instances. the last travel tax exemption that i had was this early this year. 8 lang kami noon. nakuha ko in less than an hour...mga 30 minutes ...baka good timing lang siguro ako in all my visits.

Like what they said, the answer is no.

I was working in Vietnam, I went to Malaysia and paid for travel tax.

walang travel tax for domestic flights.

200php ang terminal fee sa NAIA for domestic travel. Sa Mactan International Airport 200 din, sa mga maliliit na airports in the provinces nasa 20php.

^sis, wala kang binabayaran na Phil. Travel tax kapag domestic travel lang. Tama si ficklemind. Baka airport tax ang naiisip mo.

Phil. Travel Tax = Php1620.00 for economy and business class travel
                          Php2700.00 for first class travel

Airport Tax = Php750.00 (MNL/CEB/DVO airports) for international trvl
Php200.00 (MNL/CEB/DVO airports) for domestic travel

FYI, if you're an OFW or an OFW dependant you can get a certification of some sort that you can show at the airport. The fees would trimmed to around 500 yata. You can check it out. Sayang din naman yung Php1620.
