^^ naku sis hindi pa, dun muna namin sya nilipad sa pedia nya sa med city. sabi ng pedia wala lang daw yun pero kung lalaki pa talaga yung bukol, hanap kami ng specialist.tsaka gusto na talaga namin sya ilipat dahil suko na kami sa layo ng byahe pa medical city (taga south kasi kami), baka may marrecommend kang pedia sa asian..

@delisyus, I believe Dr. Mantaring is head of UP-PGH's Neonatology unit kaya magaling talaga siya.  I've seen him work on super preemies (really tiny preemies weighing less than a pound at birth) at Madocs.  He is also a breastfeeding advocate, a colleague of my sons' neonatologist.  In fact, I recommended him in another thread since my sons' doctor is on indefinite leave.

Napansin ko ang approach ng mga UP-PGH doctors hindi talaga yung puro reseta lang ng mga gamot, especially sa cough and colds.  I am dismayed when I read posts na nag-pe-prescribe ng antibiotics and cough meds ang ibang pedias.  Sa US and other first-world countries, hindi kasama sa protocol ang cough meds and antibiotics for cough and colds caused by viruses.   So, as much as possible, I get Med grads from UP-PGH when I ask for a referral.  

Satisfied naman ako sa lahat ng specialists ng mga anak kong grads from this school - Dr. Silvestre (neonatologist and main pedia), Dr. Resti Bautista (associate pedia),  Dr. Pauline Santiago (for eyes), Dr. Rina Reyes-Quintos (for ears), Dr. Michelle De Vera (allergologist) and Dr. Tippy Tanchanco (developmental pedia).

ahaha marose... Dr. Mantaring is breastfeeding friendly (there are some things pa din kasi about breastfeeding that he doesn't know pero hindi nga sya fan ng formula) pero it's Dra. Silvestre who is the breastfeeding advocate talaga. I'd love to meet her kaso nga on leave pa sya (breastfeeding peer counselor kasi ako and Dra. Silvestre helped mobilize us during post-Ondoy, we did all those breastfeeding missions)...

pero satisfied talaga ako with Dr. Mantaring.... nakakatawa lang, since he is a neonatologist, when we go to the ER or something and tell attending people that Dr. Mantaring is our main pedia, they assume my son was a preemie or had some problems but ok na din kasi even if we use our HMO, doctors report to Dr. Mantaring

@delisyus, I based my statement on the fact that Drs. Silvestre and Mantaring worked on a breastfeeding project.  Yung baby book mo rin ba yung blue na Tagalog?  Check mo names, andun si Dr. Mantaring, along with Dr. Silvestre's associate pedias, sina Dr. Resti Bautista, etc.

Side kuwento:  popular sa nurses ng Madocs si Dr. Mantaring.  They find him guapo.

ay no...my baby book kasi came from Asian, where I gave birth I have yet to buy the blue one from their clinic

I am preggy again now and thinking it may be cheaper to give birth at Madocs than Asian again, but I really want a bfeeding advocate pedia... my friend who gave birth there last year, disaster yung pedia eh, despite explicit instructions na they want to breastfeed (lalo pa diabetic yung mom), the baby was charged with a can of s-26... gusto ko maro-room in ko agad baby ko! I will talk pa with Dr. Mantaring about his rooming in policy, but since PGH doctor sya, baka mas mabilis sya mag-discharge ng baby

^ Sa Madocs, hindi sila nagbibigay ng formula basta-basta, based on my experience there in 2007.   Kung hindi pa naka-room-in ang baby (such was my case kasi preemies ang twins ko), tinatawagan nila ang mommy para pumunta sa nursery to breastfeed.  Wala ring bottles doon.  Cup feeding sila.

Or, it could be because they knew that my pedia was Dr. Silvestre.

Boss naman nila si Dr. Mantaring kaya malamang kapag may strict instructions siya not to give formula or glucose water and to room-in agad, masusunod.

Banggitin mo na rin sa mga nurses and residents doon ang bagong newborn care protocol ng DOH.  Di ba, rooming-in is the policy na basta healthy and full-term ang baby. The way I understand it, only if the baby or mommy has health issues, saka lang idederecho sa nursery.  Paki-google na lang.

well, baka my friend's then pedia was so-so lang kasi disaster talaga... I think it took them 9 hours before they brought the baby (CS kasi) for the first feeding... they weren't giving formula naman nga kasi may explicit request to breastfeed kaso 9 hours! eh diabetic mom nga, so syempre the baby's blood sugar din plummeted... so they had to supplement with formula para mapataas agad yung blood sugar... ay nako!

not sure din if dependent sa wing kung san ang room mo yung level ng care.. i was confined there 3 times while i was preggy and I loved the nurses naman din... it was on my friend's delivery lang ako nagka-issue talaga with Madocs

pero you're right, i guess i need not worry since 2 UP-PGH specialists yung doctors ko, De Guia (OB) and Mantaring (pedia)

i gave birth in madocs in 2009 feb and my baby's pedia was dr. Mantaring. if you want to breastfeed successfully, dr Mantaring would fit. i had a c section delivery on feb 6 8.45am and i only nursed my baby on feb 7 at 10am. throughout the whole day of feb 6, i was worried that my baby will be hungry but Dr mantaring assured me that she has enough storage to last her for 24 hours..i couldnt go to the nursery as i still have my epidural and drip attached to me..i wasnt ready for room in as i was still drowsy from the morphine that was given via the epidural..therefore, my baby waited for 24 hours before being nursed..on feb 7 in the evening, dr mantaring came to see me for his rounds and i was latching my baby ...he would check and advise if im latching it right..he would also correct me if the latching position is wrong..now my baby is 14 months old and i am proud to say that i am still breastfeeding her..she hasnt had a drop of formula milk till now and we are still going strong all the best

ahehe... yet another example that my darling pedia is only breastfeeding friendly but I am happy for you that you are still breastfeeding kasi it is super tipid, diba?

it's true that babies usually have enough stored food they got from the placenta which is why new Moms need not even worry about the quantity of milk the infant gets from them... but it's very important to start the breastfeeding relationship asap, not only for the nutrition but for the bonding...

i guess it was also different in Asian kasi they brought my baby to me twice before he was allowed to room in kasi nga CS din ako... and I wasn't given epidural and morphine, I was given tramadol instead because of my strong allergy history so I was dizzy but not nauseated... and I was hell bent on rooming in

any pedia derma pa na magaling? ang tagal na kasi ng parang heat rash ng baby ko meron pa tumutubo sa kanya na parang kinagat ng lamok na red talaga
ilang beses na sya pumunta ke dr. victoria dizon wala padin e ganun padin, we even tried caedo same.. please help..

^ Sis, Dr. Canlas is not a pedia derma, ha. He's an Allergologist. That's a different subspecialty from dermatology. 
Another good pedia derma is Dr. Cindy Jao Tan of Manila Doctors Hospital.

ask ko lang po sana, kasi si baby po mag 3months palang ang kanina po nagpacheck kame kay pedia para ipacheck yung face nya. nirefer po nya kame sa derma. binigyan po kame ng alum acetate and betamethasone/miconazole. sabi nya po prang nagstart daw as seborrrheic dermatitis tapos lumala dahil po siguro sa ibang factors. should i folow his advice and instructions po ba or should i consult a pedia derma or pedia allergologist? do you know po ba kung alin dyan sa dalawang specific na doctor ako pupunta in my case? and do you know po ba good pedia derma and pedia allergologist dito sa paranaque doctors hospital? that's the nearest hospital po kasi in our place. thanks po so much!

^ Sis, pasensya na, but since I was not the one who examined your baby, I will not be able to tell you if the diagnosis and treatment is correct or not. So that means I can not say that your pedia or the derma is wrong. It would be unfair to them since they were the ones who saw your baby.
May I know what areas of the face are involved? Usually kasi we only prescribe mild steroids for the face and we only prescribe it if it is really needed. Manipis kasi ang skin sa face so dapat mild lang.
If it's seborrheic dermatitis, in most cases, it goes away on its own with no need to treat.
My suggestion na lang is if you are uncomfortable with the treatment being offered, you can get a 2nd opinion from a pedia derma. If it was found to be allergic in nature (Seborrheic dermatitis is not allergic), you can ask for a referral from a pedia allergologist.
Pasensya na, but I don't know any doctors from Paranaque doctors hospital. I think sa Asian hospital may pedia derma sila. You can google the website and look under Pedia dermatology.

^ Dr. Teresa Carpo of Makati Medical Center is also a good derma, though hindi yata siya pedia derma. She's the derma of my mom and she's very nice. You can view her clinic sked on the website of Makati Med.
