my eldest is g6pd deficient.  we were not told to avoid true nuts like hazelnuts and chestnuts, drupes (almonds, pecans), or culinary nuts like pistachios, walnuts.  ang sinabi sa amin was to avoid legumes (peanuts, peas, beans, tamarind).  my son is three now and so far, ok naman sya.  he's also tried taho (in small quantities) and food with soy sauce.  what i do is when he eats something na bawal sa kanya, i'll let some days pass before i let him eat ulit something na bawal.  para lang makapagproduce ulit ng RBC yung katawan nya  :) and i think it's good na mild lang yung deficiency nya kaya pwede yung ginagawa naming ganun.

natawa lang ako nung nagpaconfirmatory testing kami dati.  the doctor said, "mommy iwasan mo pakainin ng mani, beans, moth balls".  as if naman papakainin ko ng moth balls ang anak ko kahit hindi g6pd deficient  ;D

hello mga mommies!

Do you know any milk na talagang bawal sa mga babies natin?

my son's milk was Similac HW and 1 year na po sya and kelangan na palitan ang formula nya,
first choice ni Pedia was PediaSure pero ayaw po ni baby, now I'm thinking of Gain plus advance. meron po sa inyo na Gain Plus advance ang gamit ni Baby?.

Thanks

Joining po...

My two sons, 6 and 2 year olds, are both G6PDD.  Sometimes I allow them to eat small amounts ng food na nasa "to avoid" list, like konting pansit or konting chocolate na may nuts, etc.  Pero recently I came across a page in the g6pddeficiency.org and it got me a little worried.

Sa pagkakaintindi ko pag small amounts lang ng bawal na food ang nakakain pwedeng hindi evident yung effect.  Pero meron pa ding RBCs na nade-destroy and yung waste produced ay filtered ng liver, kidneys, bladder.  So kahit pa-konti-konti lang at paminsan-minsan, yung waste produced na-a-accumulate sa body and kung meron man na naiimbak at di napa-process it could lead to health problems in the future.  You  may not see the effects now, pero sa pagtanda daw.

My kids' pedia has told me this before ko pa nabasa yung article pero di ko masyado inintindi.  Pero now, medyo may warning bell na sa akin.  OA lang ba ako kung talagang di ko bigyan ng kahit anong nasa to avoid list ang kiddos ko?  Kasi almost all cookies/biscuits contain soya lecithin...kawawa naman kung pati cookies and biscuits di pwede...

Any thoughts?

Thank you po....

yun officemate ko g6pd din yun son nya...sabi nya sya pinapacheck nya yun hemoglobin ng anak nya parang just to check yata. ang alam ko naman based sa seminar na napuntahan ko pag nagmanifest lang yun mga bawal sa kanila nadedestroy yun rbc nila...pag ganon check on the signs and symptoms ilalim ng mata, or if naninilaw ba sila, color tea urine, or namamaga daw yun pali sa tagalog.
kaya yun son ko sa age nya now im slowly teaching him not to be careful on what he eats...so now pag kakain sya ng ice cream or brownies pinapatanggal nya yun nuts or minsan sya na mismo nagtatanggal nun sa pagkain nya.

Sis dacian hindi naman sakit ang g6pd kaya di kailangan pagalingin.  Genetic so avoidance lang. My son is almost three malakas kumain, ako lang ang personal na umiiwas sa soya pero in time pwede rin sya tumikim.
