I also took my scuba lessons sa UP..many years ago. Yun na ang first and last scuba stint ko. Hindi na naulit haay. I miss the tropics.

just wondering what is a good snorkeling gear brand. I'm planning to buy one set for me, the husband and our kid. meron bang maliit? and also does that include the flippers?

maybe mares or tusa. yun kasi sabi ng instructor ko noon. sa tingin ko mas ok sa dive shops bumili. ensure na tempered glass ang mask (for diving). pero kung for snorkeling lang, pede na siguro sa malls. meron po for kids. fins sometimes included na with the mask and snorkle sa malls.

first gear ko sa speedo pero di ako satisfied. pinapasukan tubig snorkle ko and the mask skirt was really stiff. kung snorkling lang yung mas mura baka ok pa.

^^^Alam ko may local company na gumagawa ng snorkels. Aquamundo yung name ng brand and if I'm not mistaken, sa Makati ito. Tingin ko mas okay ito since for scuba/snorkeling talaga equipment nila, unlike Speedo. Pero siyempre, expect prices to be around 1k+ din.

I stumbled on aquaventurewhitetip.com. Aqua Lung daw yung masks, snorkel and fins nila. Sila na ang pinakamurang napagtanungan ko. Ang mahal kasi sa mall nung mga sets ng aqua lung. pati pangkids meron sila. anyone who's tried buying from them? wala silang branch na nasa mall. kaya parking ang problem ko sa kanila.

^thanks sis! dyan sa makati nga yung may nakausap ako. ang tyaga tyaga nya ibinigay nya lahat ng mga starting prices sa akin kahit almost uwian time na nila. wala kasi sila nung sets na katulad sa mga malls e. kaya wala sila nung mga mesh bags. but that's fine madali lang naman humanap ng bags for those. will definitely make time to go there.

I know this isn't an updated thread but I thought I'd post anyway to see if I can get any responses. I'm fresh from an INCREDIBLE trip to Busuanga, Palawan and did quite a bit of snorkeling. Loved it so much that now I want to try scuba diving. It was amazing to see the divers in some of the deeper lakes we swam in. Here's the kicker though, I can't really swim. I can kinda sorta float, submerge somewhat (definitely cannot tread water though) but really have more confidence in swimming in waters where I can touch the ground. I know I don't really sound like a great candidate for becoming a diver but I really really would like to give it a try. Is there any chance I could still get certified and dive even though I'm a mediocre swimmer?

I am not certified but I had scuba lessons back in college. You can verify that with the scuba school that you want to get into but the school that I was enrolled at that time, they want strong swimmers. Personally for me, it is a must to know how to swim kasi comfortability under water is what will lead you to buoyancy control and good breathing under water. But still check with the scuba school that you wish to enroll to.

^^My scuba instructor in college said di daw kailangan marunong lumangoy. Pero of course, may mga pinapagawa kasi samin na kailangan mo talaga lumangoy (in some cases, may fins naman), like when we put our equipment on underwater na as opposed to diving with the equipment na.

Hindi rin ako strong swimmer, marunong lang ako ng breast stroke, treading, pero yung matagalan na swimming, I can't. Certified naman ako, but of course, that was in college where scuba classes was once a week and hindi pa every week makaka-swim ka.

^^Was this in UP? Haha. Parang ganyan din sabi sakin before. Hindi kailangan marunong so they can get enrollees for P.E. Tapos first exam namin, threading with weights without fins and threading with hands up! 1 minute lang naman but that was the longest minute of my life.

^Yes sis! Hahaha! Nagpa-certify ako, sayang eh, ang laki ng difference kung sa labas. Though parang mas maraming PADI sa Philippines. Naaalala ko yan! I don't remember how I fared though.

Read up on the requirements for scuba diving training - 10 minute survival float and swim 200 yards :-/

Hi mga sis, I am super interested to get a PADI Certification this summer. Total expenses is around P25k including basic lodging. Sa Anilao yung nahanap ko. If anybody wants to join me, just let me know. Nobody of my friends are interested eh since medyo pricey.

I got my Open Water Scuba Diving Certification last February in Davao City =)

how much na ang rate sa davao sis? dati kasi murang mura talaga ang eh. sabi sa amin noon nasa 8k lang ma cert ka na.
