^ pwede ipang-treat kahit sa old person pero kulang nga lang yung na-extract na cordblood sa baby.  kailangan kasi madami, depends daw sa weight ng person.  kaya kami idodonate na lang namin para magamit ng ibang tao kasi wala naman kaming history of illness.  and just in case na kailangan namin tapos naka-store pa din cordblood ni baby sa kanila, pwede daw namin kunin and ang babayaran na lang ay ang procedure for treatment.   :-*

"After birth, the umbilical cord contains about 3 to 5 oz. of cord blood. While this amount is often sufficient for a cord blood transplant in a child, it is generally not enough for a transplant in a child or adult who weighs more than 90 lbs.. For this reason, researchers are investigating ways to multiply the cord blood cells to make them useful for larger transplants. While public blood banks discard cord blood units that are too small for transplants or use them for research, many private cord blood banks store them anyway, at the family's expense, even though they may or may not be usable later."

i got na our certificate from cord life. ibig sabihin they collected cells more than the required minimum. yung sa sister ko kasi, her twin boy ok ang count pero yung sa twin girl konti so she was asked if she still wanted to store yung sa twin girl.

parang gusto ko nito. we have history of breast cancer (mother ko). pero parang expensive eh... isa pa kung up to 18 years old lang magagamot ng cord banking, eh madalas di ba breast cancer mga 30+ years old na nagkakaron... eh di hindi na pwede ang cord blood pang treat...

wala naman sinabi samin ang cord life na hanggang 18 years old lang pwede gamitin ang cod blood. i dont think this is true. can you state your source pelase, baka may information akong hindi alam.

ang alam ko, ang contract with cord life for storage is only up to age 18 kasi by then, legal age na supposedly yung bata so he/she can decide if he/she wants to continue or not. patterned kasi itong policy na ito yata from other countries. eh dito sa philippines, di naman ganon. the parents can opt to continue to have the cord blood stored pa din even beyond 18 years.

^sis idouble check mo, ang alam ko you also need to pay yung paglabas ng cordblood not only the procedure itself,

when we asked them, kasama na daw yun... parang naka-package na, all-in na.  syempre sinama na nila yung amount na yun sa procedure, tmc pa.  kahit parking nga nila may bayad.   :P

http://www.senate.gov.ph/lis/bill_res.aspx?congress=14&q=SBN-2174

nanghihinayang kasi ako sa cordblood ni baby and sa placenta ko if itatapon lang.  so we decided we will donate it for others to use, nakatulong pa kami.   :-*

^^I second the motion. baka ang ibig sabihin nung agent is you pay for the cordlife til 18yrs si baby, BUT after that you have a choice whether to continue it or not, here in singapore 21 yrs kasi 21yrs old ang legal age so it'll be the child's choice na if ever he still wants to continue it kasi ililipat ang ownership sa kid na mismo :)

^ahh and for sure mahal yan... dito it'll cost more than $10,000sgd sa pagkakaalala ko.

^ yep, mahal.

390k 6 injections (for cancer ata ito, not sure)
300k uncomplicated
340k cardio
yung pang beauty and wellness like for burns, etc.  hindi ko nasulat yung price.

ang kinaganda lang sa tmc is hindi lang cordblood from the umbilical cord ang ini-extract nila.

The Medical City’s Unique Process

At The Medical City, we do a more comprehensive collection of stem cells—5 times more comprehensive compared with other entities. Other than the collection of umbilical cord blood, we also obtain other stem cells from the following sources during the delivery:

a. Wharton’s jelly - stripped from the umbilical cord
b. The umbilical cord itself - sliced to obtain its veins and arteries
c. Amniotic membrane - obtained from the inner lining of the placenta
d. Placenta - inner portions are obtained

The stem cells obtained from all 5 sources are cultured to increase their number. This unique
expansion process offers a major advantage over existing techniques used by other umbilical cord blood collection entities because of the higher number and viability of the cells collected.
The following are the applications for stem cells from the above sources:

a. Wharton’s jelly - used for treating lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and polyarteritis nodusa
b. Veins and arteries from the cord - used to create collateral blood distribution for patients with myocardial infarction as well as patients with stroke, and can form micro blood vessels or recreate micro circulation
c. Amniotic membrane - used to cultivate corneal cells for corneal transplantation
d. Placenta - used for burns, accelerating wound healing

The Advantages of Umbilical Cord Stem Cells

Usefulness during Treatment. Cord blood stem cells have a better chance of being an acceptable match for the recipient because they are immunologically immature and undeveloped, especially in comparison to other sources of adult stem cells such as bone marrow or peripheral blood.

Improved Survival. The immune cells in cord blood are “younger” and are more likely than bone marrow to be a suitable match between family members. This is important because some studies have shown that survival rates double when the patient receives a stem cell transplant from a relative.

Readiness. The stored stem cells can be processed quickly for use in the treatment of your baby, family members or any other matched individual. Each year, new applications for the use of umbilical cord stem cells in cancer and degenerative diseases are discovered.

Current Applications

• Oncology – Breast, Lung, Liver, Colon, Ovarian, Kidney, Prostate, Multiple Myeloma, Leukemia, Head and Neck
• Neurology – Parkinson’s, Dystonia, Alzheimer’s, Spinal Cord and Nerve Injuries
• Cardiology – Non-ischemic Cardiomyopathy, Post-Myocardial Infarction
• Endocrinology – Diabetes, Diabetic Complications, Metabolic Disorders
• Hepatology – Cirrhosis, Hepatitis
• Nephrology – Acute and Chronic Renal Diseases
• Orthopedics – Bone and Cartilage Regeneration, Osteoporosis
• Ophthalmology – Cornea Damage, Retinal Diseases, Glaucoma
• Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery – Burns, Trauma
• Wellness – Disease Prevention, Aesthetics, Dermatology

ang pinagtataka ko lang sa tmc, bakit hindi man lang nila inannounce ito during their seminars (twice na ako nag-attend ng seminars sa kanila noon, isa dun yung breastfeeding seminar).  nalaman ko lang yung about sa cord blood donation dito kay sinisterspark.  nagkaroon pa tuloy kami ng option ni hubby na i-store private para hindi masayang cord blood ni baby (we are about to pay na sana sa private cord blood bank) kasi we thought na walang nag-aaccept na donation dito sa Pinas pero buti naman at meron naman pala.   :-*

^yes that's why i was wondering why namention mo kasi i think that's the standard for cord blood banking. tho in the US meron na if i'm not mistaken yung placenta din iniistore rin nila. di pa ata lahat ng countries meron nito :)

what i meant is... yung kinaganda lang sa tmc maliban sa umbilical cord blood, kinukunan pa nila the following:

a. Wharton’s jelly - stripped from the umbilical cord
b. The umbilical cord itself - sliced to obtain its veins and arteries
c. Amniotic membrane - obtained from the inner lining of the placenta
d. Placenta - inner portions are obtained

^ah sorry, di ko nabasa ng maayos i think last night.

but since placenta is mentioned... just a thought, how can they do that naman when other hospitals give the patients an option to keep their placenta or not (specially chinese), since others use their placenta to be processed as a chinese herb as they believe it has some medicinal properties.

Hi, I'm expecting and considering cord blood banking. My friend highly recommends StemCord (and her friends din) but looks like majority of you guys consider Cordlife. Can you share your experiences with both banks? :)
