hi guys,
from my analysis, cordblood is mor expensive the stemcord. I actually acquired stemcord services. If you want to meet up with the stemcord people, just text them: 0918-9180329. For 21years of banking you will pay P207,500+7% sg tax (kasi sa SG ang bank nila) payable in 12months. Pero if hindi kaya you can opt for the yearly payment. Enrollment is 50k, first year is free 2nd-5th year is 15k/year and then 6th yr onwards is 7500/year. And then the blood can be used two times because they will be getting two sets of blood and will be stored in two different facilities.
Anyway, I decided to to have my soon-to-be child cord blood because our family has history of cancer and my doctor aunt (oncologist) advised me to do it.
I would just like to share this so that you will have more options.

:o now i'm wondering ano kaya yung may hawak ng st lukes

dito naman ang cordlife the joining fee ba yun is about $900sgd, then may yearly fee na $250 upto 21 years. kaya 21 yrs old kasi that's the age wherein the child is of legal age na and he can choose whether to continue yung sa cordblood nya or hindi na.

Hi everyone  ;D

Nakausap ko na yung OB namin, who directed me to call TMC din.  Tinawagan ko yung TMC kanina (regenerative medicine dept - Ms. Claire) about cord blood banking.  Two options is directed and non-directed.

They have 2 packages, 49k+ for cord blood and 80k+ for cord blood and placenta.

Yung non-directed donation is FREE nga for now, including testing.  Kukunin nila yung cord blood and placenta.

For either case, mother has to be tested before 35 weeks sa Regenerative Medicine dept, 2nd floor TMC, M-F 8am-5pm.

Scenario 1: No directed or non-directed donation (free, no extraction)
I will have to pay 1) the cost to look for matching cord blood; 2) the cost of storing the matching cord blood equivalent to the package cost at that future date (which is surely higher than the current cost now).  So if the cost of the package is 100k sa 2015 when I use it, yun yung babayaran ko; 3) the cost of the procedure to use it

Scenario 2: Non-directed donation (free) - using my own donated cord blood or another person's cord blood
I will have to pay 1) the cost to match the cord blood; 2) the cost of storing the matching cord blood equivalent to the package cost at that future date (either mine or another person's); 3) the cost of the procedure to use it

Scenario 3: Directed donation (paid) - using my own donated cord blood or another person's cord blood
I will have to pay 1) the cost to match the cord blood; 2) the cost of the procedure to use it.  So even if I use another person's cord blood, I only need to pay for the "storage fee" once.

Bottomline: I will save money if I do direct donation IF I really need the cord blood in the future. It doesn't matter if my cord blood is a match or not, kasi the payment will apply whether I use mine or not (at least, ito yung sinabi sa akin ng nakausap ko sa TMC).

Hope this helps!  Tawag na lang kayo sa TMC if you want more details :)

if i want to donate my baby's cord blood sa tmc, kelangan ba dun din ako mag-give birth?  or okay lang sa ibang hospital?

Naku sorry I didn't ask that question.  Better call them na lang, look for the regenerative medicine department.

i paid the first month nung november when i signed up then the next 11months will follow sa birth month ng babies ko which is march 2011 so i will be paying the 49k+ til january 2012. ang annual payment will come in every birthday month nila kaya twing march ako magpay ng 8k...
hth!

regarding the donation, i-double check nyo kung libre talaga yan kasi here in singapore, the moment you want to use the cordblood, the fee just to take out the cordblood alone costs more than $10,000SGD already so parang double pa binayad mo just to use your son's cordblood. another issue there is it may not be available anymore by the time you need it since it's stored in a public bank and anyone can use it since lumalabas na donation cya.

But why did you have to pay for the first installnent already? Kasi diba supposedly you pay lang after they have collected?

We paid for this in full, mga 48k+ with Sepax less discount because i signed up with a friend (may promo sila non). When we signed up, they asked for a PDC dated on my EDD. D-deposit lang daw nila if the collection is successful. And i gave birth 3 weeks before my EDD but they didnt ask us to change the date of the PDC.

And also pala, i referred 2 friends and collection was successful. I was sent 2 checks for 1500 each as a reward. Deposited these to my baby's bank account.

And ito cheap thrill. They sent a christmas card with a voucher for starbucks coffee and a desk calendar. Tatlong beses kami nakatanggap. Hee.

natuwa din ako sa starbucks thing, it's like my license to drink one frap for the season! hehe...
i paid lang one month nung nagsign up pero magtuloy lang ang 12month installment sa birth month eto pa lang march 2011 (2nd month), april 2011 (3rd month installment) etc...so abuting til jan2012 at sana ok ang processing para di masayang ang payment...kaya ang annual ko magstart pa lang march 2012. :) i also have sepax para mapadami pa ang stem cells at not much human intervention
speaking of referrals, baka meron gusto pumunta sa jan28-30 at megatrade hall at meron sila on the spot 3k deduction sa rate and if somebody wants a higher amount of deduction na 5100 (kung tama ang 150 sg dollar converter na nakita ko ha?), they can get my gift vouchers. i still have three (3) for grabs...:) di ata kasi pede sabay yung 3k then yung voucher ko na 5100 eh sayang para around 8k ang makukuha nyo discount. i'll also ask/email michelle kung ganun yun. just pm me if interested...

^^^Sis Grayce, you are right. For now libre sya, I just had my blood extracted to test if it's suitable for donation. I have to pay nga the most recent cost of storing cord blood plus other costs.  I also signed something authorizing them to use my cord blood for any purpose and saying na hindi sya talaga naka-reserve para sa akin.

According to them din most of the people signed up for their program are under the paid/directed donation.

^un lang talaga ang catch pag donation, i dont think it'll be there forever so might as well sign up talaga for the cord blood banking kasi it beats the purpose rin na idodonate mo hoping it'll still be there if you need it. however, that is if you really intend to have the baby's cord blood for baby himself or sa family nyo. not unless for "kawang gawa" purpose ang agenda nyo kaya nyo idodonate...

I plan to donate my baby's cord blood through the public cord blood banking system here in SG.I'm pretty sure naman there won't be a need for it for her-wala siyang anomalies sa CAS scan, wala namang inheritable diseases from both me and my hubby kaya ido-donate ko na lang-baka makatulong dun sa may need talaga.

Hindi pa uso ito when I gave birth to my 1st child (way back 2002), she's reasonably healthy naman.Hindi pa nga uso nun ang CAS and 4d SCAN eh...she turned out okay.

Too bad wala palang public bank sa Pinas...

parang gusto ko nito. we have history of breast cancer (mother ko). pero parang expensive eh... isa pa kung up to 18 years old lang magagamot ng cord banking, eh madalas di ba breast cancer mga 30+ years old na nagkakaron... eh di hindi na pwede ang cord blood pang treat...
