I am interested about Cord Blood Banking. Any info?

How to avail this one and how much?

hi sis, i'm also interested on this. i think we have 2 options:

cordlife
stemcord

both have banks in singapore. pero i heard cordlife will have one also here in Philippines (QC) not sure kung natapos na kase ang target month nila to be operational January 2010.

i got the info from my OB about cordlife. though nakapunta na ako sa bank ng stemcord sa singapore years back (single pa ako nun) bec of the couple na kasama ko nagpa bank sila dun. that gave me an idea about cord banking and said to myself na kapag its my turn na, i will really save for this.

PM me your details so I can refer you to the med-rep na nakausap ko sa cordlife. kase may free consultation naman and she'll present everything about cord banking. i'm scheduled to have a meeting with here end of Feb.

i got stemcord for my baby, i went to both of their seminars and talk to their cionsultants din before i decided so i suggest you do the same kasi mas malalaman mo yun coverage at purpose niya.
you have to decide before your in your 3rd tri ata i forgot basta may time otherwise you will be getting additional charges or rush fees

sis cheesecak3, i called up Cordlife just now. Nag open na ang Manila bank nila somewhere in UP. But of course we have options if we'll have the blood banked here or in Singapore (different charges).

To give you an idea: (Manila rate)

40k/baby. They have a promo until March 8 (less P6888) if you bring a friend (less P2800) pa.

Actually, ako talaga ang nagtanong about it sa OB ko kaya ayon nakakuha sya ng reading materials ng Cordlife.

I'm due on August 2010. Yong 40K/baby one time payment lang yon?

^the rate (from what i know) is the initial payment for the process/procedure when you give birth (get blood from you and baby, etc). then there's an annual fee for the banking itself na. i think around 5k or so per year. not sure of the annual fee for manila cordlife. 

swerte mo sis kase 1 lang baby mo. ako kase i'm expecting triplets on May.  so can you just imagine...

^ah ganon pala. gusto ko talaga to kasi diba ang daming magandang benefits kaso medyo pricey. pag isipan ko pa talaga.

sana hindi one time payment ang 40k.

^usually daw kapag twins or triplets, either 1 or 2 lang ang may enough blood for banking. i have to see kapag nag meeting na kami kung pano ang procedure. anyway, they can share naman kase siblings mataas ang percentage ng compatibility ng blood nila talaga to cure diseases. nakakatakot na kase ang panahon ngayon noh? kung ano anong sakit na ang nag susulputan.

i've also read somewhere na madaming ng diseases ang nacucure ng stem cells including cerebral palsy and i think diabetes din yata (?). ngayon palang laganap na ang cancer, what more in the next future? nakakapraning noh? sana nga hindi lang one time ang payment so it can be affordable for us mommies.

try to contact cordlife philippines. kase sa singapore yata 70k/baby ang rate. way more pricey than here.

hi mga sis,  very simple lang procedure niya
i gave birth last April2009 nga pala
so once you sign up you have to pay yun processing fee and then after they will you na agad the kit its 1 big box which has everything na they will explain it actuallypero more or less 2 types of container ang laman nun depende sa choice ng OB niyo kung san sila mas madadalian na way.
Once you give birth dapat dala niyo yun kit and then pag nagpa-admit na kayo sa hospital just give it to the nurse they will know what to do na.  you dont have to do or say anything pa the hospital will do all the arrangements na, im not sure if same setup sa pinas but i think it should be the same.
after a week ata they will call you again (stemcord/cordlife) to inform you how much stem cells yun nakuha nila, kasi may computation yun regarding the ratio ng stem cells vs. sa weight nun person who will be using it.  kasi diba may number of years na you want to maintain it, yun quantity ng stem cell yun ang magbibigay sa inyo ng idea until when is the best time to keep pa yun.

i hope this will help kesa makagulo hehe basta i suggest you need to attend the seminar talaga.

and ok lang naman na kahit 1 lang sa family ang meron nun, kasi its 75% compatible sa siblings and 50% compatible sa parents.

just curious what made you decide to go for stemcord instead of cordlife? para lang for our benefit din kase atleast ikaw you're done na with it pa share naman sis if you don't mind. also, from which country are you?

hi mga sis.  i decided to have cord blood banking for my baby too.  I met with both stem cord and cordlife representatives and was able to discuss extensively with both of them about my questions on cord blood banking. i asked for a copy of their contracts and reviewed them both.  in the end because of promos they had more or less the same price. i'll be signing na the contract this Saturday.  It's true that you have to sign the contract at an appropriate time to avoid rush charges.  I believe it would help you decide if you consider the following:
-how they will collect, store and transport the blood
-their process of retrieval of the blood should you need it later on (sana hindi)
-their technology on obtaining the maximum amount of stem cells from the collected cord blood
-their international accreditation and affiliations

there's an article in the july issue of smart parenting discussing cord blood and whether it's for you or not.  for me, I believe that if you have the extra funds then go for it.  technology develops so fast and what we thought were impossible before are very possibler now expecially in the medical field.  the thing is you only have once chance to collect the cord blood and that is upon delivery of your baby.  after that you won't have the chance again.   there's the possibility that you may never really need to use the blood (we all want this) but then again what if you will need it? in the end the decision is really up to you.  it's like getting an insurance for your car, house and other properties.

i was able to talk to a rep na from cordlife and i was given some materials to read and also the rates. yung 40k buti naman pwede deferred payment but i think my husband said his dad is paying for this so ok na din. storage is 8k/year naman.

yung stem cord, do they have storage facilities na din here or sa singapore pa?

^ thanks. the person i talked to at cordlife said he can schedule a facility visit din so we can see their office, etc. hindi lang ako nagmamadali kasi 19 weeks pa lang naman ako. but since there's a time line pala, siguro we have to finalize this na soon para one less thing to think about as my due date nears.

pero yung stem cord, sa singapore pa din ang storage or meron na din here?

sis clueless, stem cord's facility is in singapore only but you can visit it too. only cordlife has a facility here and in singapore.
