IMC sila simula nursery.

^^sis, ICA nasa 68k daw grade 1, so baka 60k din pre-school nila. :(
Re IMC, 48k cya fy2010.
Dati nman nung dun pa study niece ko, maganda turo nila. Nagto-top pa nga cya eh tsaka di naman ganuon ka-advance sila...Ewan ko ba bakit masyado nila pinahihirapan ngayun mga bata. parang wala na time mag-laro at mag-enjoy..
Oo nga pala, dati naman di pa sila accept 3yo, bigla ngayun tanggap na sila...ano yun parang nagmumukha sila pera???peace ;D

nice thread ito.

my daughter is turning 2 this coming March. and syempre level up mode na, paghahanap na for pre-school para magka-idea din ako magkano dapat ang ipre-pare, terible na pala talaga ang tuition ah.

i'm also from better living pque, currently my daughter is enrolled in Kindermusik only on saturdays (last year I enrolled her to Gymboree), sa ngayon at her age, sa mga ganitong klaseng preparation ko muna sya ine-enroll, main objective ko talaga is para mahasa ang social skills nya, especially now na 1 anak palang namin sya, syempre walang kalaro sa bahay during wkdays, at least pag saturday may mga bata syang makakasama sa classes.

i have few questions to ask lang:
1. kelan ba dapat i-send ang bata sa formal schooling? (either montessori or traditional), at what age ba dapat?
2. hindi rin ako masyado expose sa mga methods of teaching, ano ba ang better? nagback read ako, based on sis marose's posts, mukhang ok nga ang montessori. pero paano gina-gauge ang development ng bata dito kung walang grades? through constant communication lang ng teachers and parents?

@sis simplykristine, yung Maria Montessori sa Merville ba how much ang tuition? parang ang napost kasi dito eh yung sa Alabang branch eh, same lang ba sila? ano pang ibang schools dito sa better ang ok?

What about Mary Louis Montessori? it is in El Dorado Better Living, papuntang Levitown, malapit lang kami dito, any feedbacks?

sis Rain, traditional pala dun sa IMC? yung sa ICA ba traditional din or progressive? kasi medyo kaya pa yung ganong tuition kung yearly naman. pero not more than 60k, pwede nga max lang ng 50k. lol. hindi naman kasi kame mayaman. hehe.

thanks sis guerzman :(

sis younis, same lang naman ata sis yung MM sa Alabang and BL. if same sila, naku may nagpost na dito na 130-150k ang tuition fee sakanila. naku, ni pangarap mahirap yun mabaot para samin. hehe

@guerzman, yes sis sobra naman ang assessment nila paper and pencil test. Mag 4yo ang anak ko june last year, tapos very confident sya sa pagsagot.

^sis iba kasi activities pag montessori.

@younis, based on progression ng bata in terms of working with the materials and adapting to the prepared environment ang content ng reports.  Nevertheless, kahit walang grades, you will be able to assess your child's progress through the reports, if the reports are made by a competent and Montessori-trained directress/teacher.  Sa school ng sons ko, may orientation about the Montessori method sa start ng school year.  Every semester, the school holds parent development seminars.  Most seminars are geared towards fostering awareness about the Montessori method.  Also, there is constant interaction through e-mails, text messages and short discussions between parents and teachers, aside from the twice a month school reports/journals.  In short, there is a lot of opportunities to know how your child is doing in school so far.  For me, it is better than just seeing a number or letter on a report card because parents do not really know the details and how the grade or rating was arrived at.  I prefer the narrative report.

Every semester, parents are invited to observe their children in class.  During the first sem, we just observed.  Second sem, we actually get to "work" with our child in class and by doing so, we would know just how much progress the child has accomplished.  Ibang-iba ang demeanor, system of working and behavior ng mga anak ko last sem when I observed them vis-a-vis last week when I worked with one of them (next week pa yung sa isa kong kid).

How did I personally come to know the progress of my sons?   Verbally, their vocabulary developed beautifully and there was an explosion in their expressive language, they now speak in complete sentences, they could comprehend simple stories - I "test" their understanding while reading a story to them, they could follow simple instructions and narrate to us how their day went, etc.

Socially, they became more outgoing and bibo.  They also have friends in school.  They are not intimidated by older kids because in school, they have classmates who are 2-3  years older.

In the practical life area, I can say they've improved a lot.  They know how to remove their clothes, button their shirts, untie their shoe laces, etc.  Marami pa.  Basta ang basis kasi ng Montessori, being well-equipped in the practical life area is as important as developing a child's academic skills.  Marunong nga magbasa, magsulat and all, pero kung kailangan pa rin subuan, bihisan, hindi marunong magligpit ng gamit, etc. ang bata, hindi siya well-rounded.

In the sensorial development area, the focus is to refine and develop their fine motor skills.  Where before they can only hold a pencil using the wrong grip (I forgot what it's called).  Now, they can do it using the tripod grip.

Academically, they're starting to learn phonetics and practicing writing.

Montessori has a strong cultural arts program and I am quite amazed that my kids know the parts of the human body, the different systems (circulatory system, skeletal, muscular, etc.), the different continents, land and water forms, planets, etc.  Not just know the names ha.  They could explain the concepts in their own way and when quizzed, for example, as to where is the Philippines, they know it is in Asia.  They know that Asia is the largest continent, etc.

Over all, I am quite happy.  Ang goal ko kasi kaya ko sila pinag-preschool ng maaga is for them to develop social skills, be more independent and develop an inherent curiosity about the world.

The reason it's expensive is because of the special training of the teachers and the materials - these are imported and do not come cheap and several of them are unique to Montessori.  You could not find the materials in toy stores or in the mall.  The directress recently went abroad to undergo training.

I remember noong kinder and prep ako, I really hated doing worksheets.  Tapos, yung pipilitin akong to write my name and letters (blue to blue, red to red on pad paper) when I could not even properly hold a pencil yet.  At pinaka-hate ko noong bata ako, nakaupo lang ako sa chair ko, nakaharap sa teacher who would talk for a long time.  Super bored ako.

I remember staying outside the classroom waiting for the teacher to get me kasi nga, hindi ko type pumasok sa loob ng classroom.  Pero enjoy ako sa outdoor activities.

Pero that was when I was in kinder until grade 3 yata. ;D  Kaya hindi ko sinasabing Montessori is for everyone or progressive or traditional.  As a parent, we should set our goals for our children when we send them to preschool.  We should also gauge kung saan type of school or environment sila makaka-thrive and learn. At ako naman, working mom with long hours so alam kong hindi ko kaya matutukan as of now ang mga worksheet at homework.  Oh, I used to hate homework too and projects na impossible magawa ng isang bata.  Kaya, may isang preschool na thumbs down agad sa akin noong sinabi na may "simple" homework at worksheets for their entry level (yung pang 3 years old).

^naku likot din ng daughter ko, kaya nga based on your explanation, naiimagine kong this method would fit her. sana lang makahanap ako ng magandang school at syempre hindi masyadong mahal na school near my area, getting ready na rin kasi she's turning 2 na, kaya dapat pinag-ha-handaan na rin talaga.

thanks again sis.

Ang tip ko in choosing a preschool, interview-hin mabuti ang directress/principal at magiging teacher ng anak mo.  More than a school's reputation or branding, I think mas important na makakasundo mo at ng anak mo ang teacher niya.  At dapat may commitment ang teachers, aside from having the proper training.  Kapag papalit-palit ang teachers, red flag iyan.

agree sis marose17. maganda talaga ang montessori maganda talaga my 3y/o daughter started reading already, nagliligpit, at naliligo na rin magisa. basta very independent na. alam na a-z at 1-30. she also knows how to deal well with other kids. we live in the province and 26k lang ang tuition. my prob is we'll be staying in manila next school year and mukhang babalik sa nursery ulit ang anak ko.

does anybody know of a good school na asa ortigas area? 'wag naman yung masyadong kamahalan kasi butas na bulsa namin. masakit talaga kapag hindi mabigay ang 'best' school sa anak dahil sa pera. ouch! :)

i inquired:
poveda P103,640
gcf int'l school 86,000
st paul pasig approx. 70,000

got the tuition fee list of gymboree yesterday for SY 2011-2012.  nursery is 67k, pre-kinder and kinder is 83k.  there's an assessment fee of 500 for new students also.  if you want to reserve a slot, you have to pay them 10k.  deadline for the reservation is march 31.

payment schems are cash, semi-annual, and quarterly:

a.  nursery semi-annual : 41.7k downpayment, balance pdc of 27.8k dated nov 1, 2011
b.  nursery quarterly: 36k dp, balance 3 pdcs of 12k each dated august, november and january 2012
c.  pre-kinder and kinder - 51.3k dp, balance 34.2k pdc dated nov 2011
d.  pre-kinder and kinder quarterly - 43k dp, balance 3 pdcs of 15k each dated august, november and january 2012
hi sis! which branch of gymboree po ito? nag-transfer kasi kami from gymboree trinoma to gymboree rockwell because lumipat kami ng house. when i ask rockwell branch their pre-k tuition is 100k and kinder is 110k plus 10k iscellaneous fee. nalungkot naman tuloy ako bigla. mas gusto ko pa rin sa trinoma, mas mura na mas magaling pa magturo ang mga teachers.

^ sis, that's the tuition fee ng trinoma branch.  baka iba't ibang branch, iba't ibang rate.  baka mas mahal sa rockwell kasi makati area. okay ba sa trinoma?  what's the student-teacher ratio nung class ng baby mo?  i was told less than 10 students ba sa isang class?

i also checked out apple tree integrated school (dating apples and oranges).  their tuition fee is Php73k.  all-in na:  tuition fee, materials, 1 set of uniform, fieldt trip, etc.

sis core classes lang ang ineneroll kasi namin sa trinoma (learning lab class). pero kung icocompare ko ang trinoma and rockwell, mas prefer ko ang trinoma, especially teacher car, siya kasi ang teacher ng 2 babies ko. we also attended na the class of rockwell, para kasing walang kabuhay-buhay yung teacher dun and nagmamadali sa oras. alam ko limited ang number of student in a class. kung hindi lang talaga kami lumipat ng bahay, talagang sa gymboree trinoma na namin i-eenroll ang mga bata. now, im scouting for a good preschool in makati na. what's you baby name nga pala and what class siya, baka nagkita na tayo?
