legality of retaining the use of maiden name after marriage

sis ava_garde, is this DFA in Macapagal? although i just renewed my passport last year, i'm concerned about this kasi i am still using my maiden name. i declared naman in the application form that i am married na. according to the embassy staff (i'm based in another country), no problem daw if i still use my maiden name. ang problem daw is if i don't change my status from single to married. anyway, i hope you are able to renew your passport without further hassle.

few months after i got married i started using my husband's lastname... sss at passport nalang yung di ko pa nauupdate.. ang gusto ko talaga hypenated kaso sobrang haba ng name ko..

pwede ko pa ba baguhin at gawing hypenated instead na last name lang ng husband ko gamit ko?

Baliktad naman tayo sis dainejen... ako my dilema is i want to un-hyphenate/dis-hyphenate my name... if there is such a word, haha!

All i know is you cannot revert to your maiden name once you have adopted your husband's name. My guess is you can totally drop your hyphenated last name to adopt to your husband's last name. Better call the consulate to be sure.

I hyphenated my husband's surname on my passport. The lady at the DFA counter (Megamall) reminded me that if I want to change my name - drop the hyphen, that I would have to go to court for it.

Just a thought mga sissies, although we have every legal right to retain our (father's) surname, using our husband's surname is the first and most visible way of honoring and submitting to him as it says in the Bible (Eph. 5:22-23). Some of you may think that such command is sexist or does not apply in the 21st century anymore, but remember, the husbands are in turn commanded to love their wives as Christ loved the Church by giving themselves up for us. The duty imposed on the husbands is, IMO, heavier than the one imposed on us.

for me you have an option.. it will be hassle free if all your identification ids still has your maiden name.. kaso if may iba na married name tapos passport mo iba baka magkaproblem ka [textspeak!] later...

I didn't do that, I just have my birth certificate and marriage certificate with me. So far no issues

just got married ealier this year, nagpachange ako ng last name sa ibang documents ko. pede ba maibalik ulit yun sa maiden name ko? of course the status remains married.

Oh no, will i have a problem when i renew my passport if i havent changed my name?  Im married 2 years na.

I experienced issue getting an NBI clearance last Dec 2013. Its either i use my husband's surname or i am single. Ang  tagal ko sa encoding. Sabi nung girl lagay na lang daw single hindi daw lalabas sa clearance. Hay naku nakalagay sa clearance single. So baba ulit ako sa encoding hanggang may hit na. My mom had to go back for the clearance.

hi sisses, i'm getting married in january and will renew my passport by next year din. Can I still use my maiden name sa passport? my concern is that  my visa holds my maiden name kasi. help!

Kung sa name, wala problem dahil consistent naman pero kung sa civil status, baka meron. I didn't see any civil status sa passport ko or in my previous visas. Not sure lang sa visa mo.. Best to ask the consulate office
