Gusto ko rin hyphenated to keep my identity and also show respect to husband. I did this during the first two years of marriage. Unfortunately, when I was updating my records/IDs, it was so confusing and complicated to the gov't agencies and banks. Nagkakamali sila because my husband's surname has two words.

I had no choice but to adapt to the norm.

Now I keep my PRC license and passport under my maiden name. The rest, married surname.

hay naku naku sana a month ago ko pa nakita ang forum na ito. When I was in college I was quite sure that THERE IS A law regarding us not having legal responsibility to change our maiden name to our married name. Kaya hindi ko pinalitan ang name ko. pero after 8 years of marriage lagi ako tinatanong, inuusisa at nagkakaproblema dahil dito the last one is when my husband and I was planning to file a loan sa PAGIBIG dapat daw 2 government issued ID namin, when I ask If its ok to use all my ID na nasa maiden name pa rin they said hindi daw baka magkaproblema daw, another one is when I visited a lawyers office kasi kailangan ko mag pa affidavit at dito talaga ko nafrustrate dahil ako pa nagpapaliwanag sa kanya na nakita ko po sa website ng DFA na may choice if gagamitin ang married name or not and he did not believe me. Now I already processed my SSS id changed it to my married name kahit ayoko. Sana may mag advice dito if pwede ko pa yun habulin.

Applied for NBI clearance 2 weeks ago and I encountered the same problem I had with LTO. I use my maiden name in all my IDs and legal documents. Told this to the girl encoding my info sa NBI pero ayaw niya pumayag. If I prefer to use my maiden name, single daw yon. Hindi raw nila pwede ilagay as married. I was in a hurry to process my clearance so I relented, AGAIN.

Nakakainis na talaga ito. Seriously, hindi ba inoorient ang employees of govt agencies sa option/choice na ito ng married women in Pinas? Gahhd. Next time, maghahanda na talaga ako ng spiel ko.

^naku teh dapat ininsist mo yan. Tinawag mo sa supervisor or something. Nakakapagod pero ba trip talaga. Lalo lang magkakagulo records if not consistent hawak mong documents.

Hello everyone! I am newly married and nagkasundo kami ng husband ko na iretain ang maiden name ko. Kailangan pa ba dumaan sa legal or pwede nang hindi?

It is indicated there na you can legally retain your surname ang dapat lang naman palitan is civil status mo.

Ipiprint ko nga yan stating na pwede naman gamitin maiden name para ma in your face yung mga nakakainis na tao. Kala ko ba sabi ignorance of the law is not an excuse? Ai magamit nga yun hahaha! Yung asawa ni teddy casiño ba o locsin (sorry nalilito ako sa 2), maiden name gamit nya. I know this kasi nakasabay sya ng mom ko sa cashier/registrar nung bayaran ng tuition ng pamangkin ko. Tinanong ng mom ko bakit maiden name gamit nya, sagot nya, may law daw tayo na pwede naman yun. Hay sa wakas! Di pa talaga ako pwede magchange name until i resign, change status lang. Dami complications!

Any updates kung naayos na ba ng NBI yung sistema nilang hindi pwedeng gamitin yung maiden name sa clearance nila?

Question naman po. Iuupdate ko na kasi yung philhealth ko, change civil status. Kelangan ko ba sabihin na status lang ang babaguhin at hindi yung surname ko? Hindi ko pa kasi pwede sa ngayon baguhin sa surname ni mister talaga at malaki babayaran ko sa employer ko just by changing my name. Mga nasa P60k siguro para maupdate lang lahat ng ids ko sa employer ko. Thank you po. Please help naman.... buntis kasi ako sayang naman makukuha ko sa philhealth......

Safest to use maidenname-husband's surname, para fair both sides.

hypenated. Mag1year na kami kasal ni hubby pero wala pa ko naayos na IDs except sa philhealth nagamit ko surname niya dahil Hindi ko pa alam yung law na to. Thanks for the inputs.

LAHAT hindi yan alam. Kaya ako, may bit bit akong printout ng law!
Tapos ipapakita nila sa supervisor nila and then babalikan ako ang magsasmile 'Ay, pwede pala...'

Sa SSS nakow! Ang dami ko ng naka-away sa kanila kasi hindi nila alam yung law. Pag change status daw, automatically change surnames narin. Yan ang spiel sa mga counters. BUT when you call SSS legal services, they will tell you otherwise! HAYZ talaga...

in my 9 mos of being married all my documents and ID's are named maiden name hyphenated husband surname. wala naman problema.

So sis, nilalagay mo middle name sa mga forms nung inayos mo yung middle name mo nung single ka? Tapos surname yung hyphenated na? Ganun ba?

^ oo sis. pati sa renewal ng passport ko ganun din. wala naman naging problema kasali palagi yun marriage certificate.
