the mix for homemade saline solution is about 1/4 to 1/2 tsp of salt per 8oz of water. The salt should be the non-iodized kind.
You can also use this solution for nasal lavage although some add baking soda.

been using sterimar. hmm Meron pa la cheaper alternative. How does Salinase works? Same with sterimar?

buy sana ako ng muconase sa mercury, ayaw ako bigyan unless prescribe daw. isn't the same as salinase? i opted to buy salinase spray na lang. ayaw pa rin akong bigyan actually, kung prescribed daw ba ng pedia. i just say yes, prescribed naman kay baby ang salinase, not the spray type nga lang, eh mejo hassle na nga kase dahil malikot. i suppose same lang naman ng content ang salinase spray ang salinase drops, so wala siguro problem dun. i'll check later paguwi. i bought sterimar before, kaso mukhang di pang baby yung nabili ko kase ang lakas nya i-spray kaya di ko ginagamit kay baby, kay kuya lang may gulat factor pa.

un bumili din hubby ko, wala din hiningi na prescription. buy din niya both salinase drops and spray. un drops palang nagamit ko kay baby

ask ko lang, nun na drop ko na sa nose ni baby, wala naman sipon or something na lumabas. pero parang mas nakakahinga na siya, ganun lang ba yun? kaso kinabukasan ng AM ganun na naman siya hehe ok lang ba yun i-drop everyday?

^ minsan yata sis nalulunok na lang yung sipon ni baby pagkapatak ng salinase or natutunaw na dun yung sipon - not the exact term pero something to that effect at hindi naman bad yun.. long term use ba tanong mo sis? di ko lang sure.. hehe.. better ask the pedia na lang. feeling ko baka masobrahan sa asin si baby..  :o

for the sterimar my son's pedia said okay lang un everyday. kahit 2-6/ day daw.

mine din is salinaise drops. ang ginagawa ko pag tulog nq anak ko. inaangat ko  konti yung ulo ng kamay ko. tapos iapapatak ko. effective naman sa baby ko.

we're using sterimar din for my son.. pero pag si pedia, binibigay nya yung Otrivin Saline Nasal.. yan nirereseta nya sa son ko..

ang nirecommend ng pedia ko for my babies when they were 2-month-old was nasoclear available at mercury drugstore around P60-70 only...

Sis, if it's just purified seawater that's in your spray or drops, you can use it as frequently as needed.  Pag marami or thick yung sipon, you might have to use an aspirator to get the mucus out.  Pero ako ni hindi ko mai-shoot yung bulb aspirator sa ilong ni baby so hinahayaan ko lang pagka-spray.  Mapapansin mo, lumalabas sa poop niya or sa wiwi niya yung sipon. 

I think though when she gets a little bigger (she's 11 weeks now) and kung mas malala ang sipon niya lalo at winter dito sa amin ngayon, mapipilitan na akong i-aspirate siya.  I bought this gadget I saw on a mommy website and a lot of parents swear by it.  Just hope it's more effective than the bulb aspirator: http://www.nosefrida.com.au/.

we also use salinase drops and effective naman sya... nung una ayaw ng daughter ko pero lately pumapayag na sya kasi nakikita nya din minsan na naglalagay din kasi ako...  :)

we use salinase. nakakatuwa daughter ko (9months) pagnilalagyan ko sya, halos hindi gumagalaw. gustong gusto nya yata yung pakiramdam. pati pag gigagamitan ko sya aspirator to get the mucus gustong gusto nya..

Well sis I'm hoping I won't have to use it soon hehe (puyatan pag may sipon si baby!) pero sige maglalagay ako ng feedback dito if and when I use it :) How much is it there?

i also use Salinase drops sa bunso ko, lalo na pag barado ilong niya. nag aaway kami palagi kapag pinapatakan ko siya sa nose, so ang ginagawa ko nalang, i put a few drops of Salinase sa cotton tips (wet enough na pag pinang clean ko sa nose niya, sasama sa tip yung dumi or sipon).

dito sa UAE, nakakatawa ang nasal drops nila. instead na Salinase, it's a funny "Salinose". hehe

sterimar din gamit ko kay baby ngayon..effective siya pang alis ng mucus, nakakahinga na ng maayos si baby. but ang problema ko is yung mucus production, ang bilis kase, pag naalis sa gabi pag gising niya clogged na naman yung nose niya..almost 3 weeks na si baby ganyan. nagpa check up na kami, sabi allergy daw kase hindi naman maga yung nostril ni baby at wala siya lagnat..pero bakit ang tagal na ayaw pa din gumaling? my baby is only 5 weeks, natural lang ba yun sa mga newborn? bumili na rin kami ng vaporizer, wala effect ganun pa rin..kawawa kase si baby pag hirap huminga dahil sa clogged nose.
