I know some American friends because of my hubby's work and I would say hindi sila galante!  ;D

yes western people are more open and straight forward pero if you are a typical Filipina who would like to be pampered not just you but also your family or friends let's say when going out.. hmmmm.. isang malaking ahmmmm yan! mahilig yan sila ng kanya kanyang bayad. akala ko nuon hindi yan totoo pero ilang beses akong umatend ng despedida party sa restaurant na ang host ang nag invite sakin pero we end up paying our own bills. magpapabirthday pa mga yan at kung sa resto nila yun gagawin, goodluck! make sure you have money with you. I've attended also a lot of their house parties din nila, mas madami pa ang booze kesa sa pika pika food. hindi katulad ng pinoy pag nagpakain sa bahay nila eh buffet! :)

with dating naman, what can you expect,, of course, stingy pa rin sila.  :D they will just spend money on you but they make sure they get you into bed din. observation lang eto ng asawa kasi he is the only pinoy in his work now. casual sex for them is very common. kapag swerte at ginastusan ka ng mga yan on the first few dates, abay don't expect that they like/love you that much. most of them just want something in return. kaya I told my pinay buddies ingat ingat sa mga yan at baka ikaw na topic nila with his friends kinabukasan. if ever, galingan narin nila ang performance at least hindi sila nakakahiya sa kwentuhan.. biro lang! :P

Pinoy kasi usually are karinyoso at malambing. true may ibang pinoy na mayabang pero naranasan ko naman sakanila before na usually when you go out with them kahit sabihin chaperon or sabit ka lang kasama ka narin sa libre kain at sine!  ;D
mahilig din sila manuyo sa mga in laws as much as possible. sa ibang lahi, hindi sila mageefort ng ganun. they will even call your parents by their first name. kasi ganun ang nakasanayan nila.

by the way, kung sa kulturang pinoy, kapag nag asawa kayo eh your husband will surrender his monthly income to you,, on their side, you cannot expect it from them or else hihiwalayan ka. shared expenses but you don't have a say to his money other what he is giving to you.

observation lang namin eto ng mister ko regarding sakanilang culture. specifically American culture kasi dun kami expose ngayon. of course, hindi eto absolute.  meron din namang pinoy probably ganito din ang ugali kapareho nila. masyado lang siguro ako na focus sa financial part kasi I was raised in our pinoy culture naman na women/wives should be pampered by their men. hindi ko kasi kayang ihandle ang mga kuripot na tao!hahaha. swerte nalang ng mga pinay who married or dated foreigners na galante at hindi controlling.

by the way, I have some American friends who also visits our house and if my parents are present during their visit, they pay their respect by calling them Mam or Sir. I told them initially not to call my dad by his first name "Antonio" or else hindi ko na sila papasukin ng bahay noh! hehe..

^sis, san kayo sa US? dito kasi sa midwest, galante mga Americans. and they still call their elders "sir" or "ma'am", even the teenagers. sa work, first name basis pero when addressing the parents, grandparents or any older relative of a friend, sir or ma'am sila. marunong din sila manligaw and gagastusan ka talaga. siguro nasa upbringing and environment yan. dito kasi sa place namin, old fashioned pa din mga tao when it comes to values and socialization.

hi sis!  ;D I cant mentioned our exact location because of my husband's work. country is outside US but are place is considered US ground. I hope I didn't get you confused. :D our friends here are mostly Americans coming from all parts of US assigned here. meron din ibang lahi pero dahil US ground considered ditto sa location namin so mas madami lahi nila.

I hope not to offend other people dating Americans ah. sabi ko nga, hindi eto absolute sa lahat. its an observation lang based sa experience ko or exposure ko sakanila. sabi ko swerte ng mga ladies who would marry guys na opposite ng mga kakilala ko.hehe.

^It's okay, may idea na ko sa location mo. ;) And I agree with you. Pero if there is one thing na napansin ko na very common sa mga American men, whether kuripot or hindi, is ayaw na ayaw nilang matawag na cheap, haha! ALthough may mangilan-ngilan akong na-encounter na more accepting pag tinawag na cheap, siguro 2-3.

So ang swerte ko pala dahil the Americans I dated are galante. :)

Re: calling the parents by first name, so far, I never experienced that. My recent ex called my parents "Nanay" and "Tatay" because that is how I call them. And he would make "mano" pa whenever we visited. My family is never the type na magpapalibre pag may kain sa labas. My father ang usually mag-o-offer to pay kaso my ex would tell the restaurant's staff beforehand to never accept payment from anyone in our group but from him. So end up eh gastos nya din.
And I am not the kind of Pinay na iniexpect ko na maging galante sya sa family ko or friends, hello, ang hirap kumita ng pera noh!

And I was very pampered haha.I'm into crochet.

Yes, he wasn't vocal about his love, pero when we were still together eh I really felt it kasi kita mo naman sa actions nya. Kaya pag sinasabi ang ILY, eh mega kilig LOL

Another thing I like about them, straightforward.

My husband isn't American but it's pretty common for Western people to call inlaws by their given name. My husband doesn't because I already tutored him on how to call the elders of the family and it's not really an issue with us.

And when we go out with friends, KKB talaga. Even during my birthday, they didn't expect to be treated and we paid our own meals. Ganun talaga culture nila eh. But when we are out with family (his or mine), our respective parents usually food the bill.

Generosity wise, I think it depends on the individual. My husband luckily is very generous and would buy me this and that. I've had local bf's who would be generous too but it was breaking their bank and I don't see that as a sign of maturity and financial intelligence :)

glad to know that some Americans are not the same with the people i'm exposed with!

just now may nag invite samin ni mister ko ng 'going away' house party (despedida) na kano kaibigan namin. bring your own food at bring filipina friends if we have.

My husband is foreigner and I have loads of foreigner friends (from different countries).

On being kuripot, I actually take it as they are more marunong sa pera.  Based from experience, we Pinoys once may money gastos agad (guilty ako).  I actually think its because they learned the importance of money earlier than we do. Like they do summer jobs when they were in college to fund their travels, nightouts etc. Tayo generally hanggang college allowance lahat. Having said that, my hubby even though I call him kuripot (and he knows the meaning of the word), is actually very sweet and very generous to me :) Sa aming dalawa he's simple and practical, ako naman ang magastos. But now hindi na ako masyadong magastos, na-influence nya ako.

No food sa party and just puro alcohol and KKB - its a western culture talaga. I used to live in the Caribbean and ang daming iba't-ibang lahi doon. Our Western friends were impressed  with our parties because we prepared food. Although I noticed, my friends from Pakistan and India, they also cook food when they invite people so maybe its the difference between the East and the West.

First name basis - My hubby calls my mom 'tita' because dito first name basis nga sila. Wala ngang ate or kuya dito. I call my in-laws by their first names. Its their culture so that I have to respect. I feel if I call them mom or dad, I will invade their privacy. But I told my hubby he can't call my mom or dad by their first names dahil parang walang respeto. I don't think he's comfortable with mom or dad so tita and tito na lang. No issue with us or with my parents. I explain to my parents din their culture.

Generally mas older nga ang marrying age nila!  Hubby and I were together for six years before we got married (got engaged on our 5th year anniversary). He was 33 and I was 32 when we got married. Hehe.. I think the reason for that is because after college, normally they take masters or sometimes they travel first, so they get a proper job probably at 26. I have a friend who dated a guy na more than 35 years old pero ayaw mag-settle talaga, they broke up.

On dating foreigners - hubby and I started with a kiss (that was more than 7 years ago)!! I realised that's their culture. Hala kiss agad. pero tinuruan ko siya ng Filipino way of dating. haha. :) So after that kiss, he asked me for a date. Then he texted me, do I want to go for a drink or dinner daw. Of course I said dinner. This is part of our kwentuhan everytime we talk about differences. Oh he did pay for the bill on our first date, dapat lang, hindi ata ako naglabas ng wallet.  (and he kept the receipt and showed it to me years later - sentimental hubby ko and I find it sweet) :)

Dating a foreigner actually makes you more open-minded.  You need to appreciate each other's culture.

they are just the same as pinoys :)
the only difference is the language and the culture..
well - enjoy naman ang experience kasi you tend to learn about their country, their culture, how different they do things from us..
something like that :)

and it makes you fluent in English :0 sabi nga nila practice makes perfect.. hehe

I've dated an indian, pakitani, and Egyptian before :)

Hello. ^^

:O Tas nagpapadala ng roses from island rose. Todo effort talaga. di ko parin sya kinakausap that time. Imagine his effort. Hehe. Ayun, after 1 year nagkababy kami na super pogi. Ang ganda ng lahi nya. Gusto ko pa humirit ng baby girl. Kaso ayaw na nya. Ang malungkot lang after namin magkababy, nagiba sya, naging cold sakin, uuwi sya parang walang nakita. Di man lang naeexcite pag nakikita nya ko. Simula nabuntis ako, nagiba sya. Di narin kami madalas mag do. Once in a blue moon na nga lang kami mag do kasi wala naman sya lagi dito. Though good provider naman sya, he works in a software company as a gen manager so wala kaming problema pagdating sa mga gastusin. Pero di na kami masaya as a couple.

He's 2 years older than me
He can speak tagalog { thank you, lord!

Haha.
