where can I buy mock meat sa ortigas area? meron naman sa edgg veggie pero longganisa and burger na siya. gusto ko sana yung ako pa ang magluluto gagawin kong parang steak filipino
style

same question. i'm not really vegan, pero high ang cholesterol and LDL ng last blood chem result ko so I was advised by the doctor to lose weight and take a med for 2 months. I'm trying to eat healthy na rin talaga so umiiwas nako sa fatty food. any other place na malapit sa ortigas, marikina or makati na mabibilhan ng veggie meat? super like ko yung sa bodhi pero gusto ko rin sana i-try na ako yung magluto.
Always choose to be happy. :)

I shifted to a vegan (whole foods, plant based kind of vegan) lifestyle a couple of months ago. Mahirap talaga talikuran ang mga nakasanayan na natin kainin pero i think ang tamang way talaga ng pagkain is to eat fruits and veggies. I have seen people reverse diseases like hypertension, diabetes, cancer,  etc.  Even people with blocked arteries was able to reverse it by just being vegan. Kailangan lang talaga  ng knowledge and maging openminded. Ako naman kaya nagdecide na maging vegan because i want to be healthy and strong hanggang sa pagtanda ko. It only controls yung sakit (ex, like sa diabetes, maintenance meds control the sugar kaya nagnonormal pero the root of the problem is still there so nandun pa din ang sakit)

I tried to be a vegetarian when I was in my sophomore year in college. I didn't have a hard time adjusting to that kind of lifestyle but then one night as I was studying something about constitutional law, I started getting dizzy. I was not able to absorb the things that I was studying that night. My mom told me that I should try to at least eat meat once in a while kasi kailangan daw ng katawan ko yun. After trying to go back to eating a little meat, I noticed that I became stronger.

^ganyan din experience ko years before na nagtry ako magshift to vegan. Kailangan balanced. Greens, legumes, whole grains and fruits. Marami kasing misconceptions like pag vegan/vegetarian walang protein kaya dapat talaga kumain ng meat. You could actually get protein from plants and legumes. And pag tama ang kinakain mo you don't actually need any vitamins kasi nakukuha mo yung proper nutrition na kailangan ng katawan mo. I actually eat a lot pero puro whole food, plant based at hindi ako nagwoworry na tataba ako. I actually eat more now that i am vegan kesa nung kumakain pa ko ng meat. Pero i lost weight effortlessly pati si hubby and our skin is glowing ang daming bumabati sa skin namin. While nung kumakain ako ng meat I always have to watch what i eat kasi tataba ako. I eat vegan ice cream, pasta, pizza, burritos, nachos, etc without having to worry about gaining weight.

For those who are thinking of shifting to a vegan lifestyle try watching Forks Over Knives. It is an eye opener lalo na for those who have diseases

^you are welcome sis happy to help. In case you decide to shift again try mo yung power plate. Bale yung plate mo divide mo into four. So 1/4 whole grain  (brown rice mga ganyan), 1/4 veggies, 1/4 legumes (chickpeas, beans, etc), 1/4 fruits. I mix my black rice with chopped carrots (raw or blanched), chopped baguio beans (blanched), then chickpea or beans season with liquid aminos or kikkoman soysauce (blue) and pepper then ulam for example is adobong kangkong with tofu. Pwede ka mag-iba iba ng veggies and legumes na kahalo ng rice then iba ibang ulam na veggies din. Minsan yung chickpea ginagawa kong soup haluan ko ng whole wheat pasta shells or yung quinoa pasta then i put a lot of kamatis yun na ang pinakasabaw then season with salt and pepper or you could put a little to ato paste or tomato sauce. In between meals pag nagutom ako i always have banana or dalandan or any fruit or nilagang kamote or oatmeal with mashed banana (no milk) mga ganun.

^ Thank you for sharing sis!  :) I never really gotten the chance to be a full time vegan since I still eat meat for protein. You have been really helpful

^you're welcome sis. Pwede din ang mushrooms, fresh or dried. Mushrooms ang pinaka"chicken" ng mga vegan. For instance gusto mo ng tinolang manok, instead of using chicken ang gamitin mo yung fresh oyster mushroom meron sa groceries nun. Nung minsan parang gusto ko ng arroz caldo, nagluto ako ng arroz caldo pero fresh oyster mushrooms din nilagay ko then i used black rice instead of malagkit then gumawa ako ng tokwa't baboy but without the pork na lang. Ang sarap ng kain namin ni hubby. Tapos kahit ang dami ko nakain na "shroom" caldo hindi mabigat tyan ko kasi nga i used black rice instead of malagkit. Pwede din oatmeal gamitin mo.

@sonia62 omg sis! we just watched Forks over Knives! Super thank you!

It helped a lot that the documentary followed the lives of 2 doctors. We're both doctors kasi so we really believe in Evidence-based Medicine. :)

Kalungkot lang na may tie-up ang officials with the animal industry kaya hindi nila marecommend na dapat we should lessen animal-based food :(

Mamaya punta kami sa Veggie Botique sa Makati to try Vegan meat for our transition :)

^you're welcome. I am really so happy that you appreciated the documentary gaya ko. Eye opener talaga. Ang sarap pati ng feeling pag whole foods plant based ang diet kasi ang gaan talaga and i do not feel sluggish or sleepy after eating. When we eat meat kasi kaya tayo inaantok pagkakain because of the stress sa pagdigest ng food. Mula ng nagplant based ako kahit busog ako never ako inantok after eating. And the best part is, mas marami ako kung kumain ngayon pero mas namaintain ko yung gusto kong weight effortlessly. Kahapon i ate a huge bowl of red rice with chopped fresh zucchini, cucumber, tomatoes, cilantro, lime juice and salt. Then after a while kain naman ako ng fresh frozen langka. Then kain ng oatmeal hehe. Kanina lunch namin ni hubby vegan palabok. I was able to veganize palabok. As in no meat and almost zero oil. My palabok sauce is made of veggie pero lasang palabok sauce sya talaga. Tig dalawang plate nakain namin ni hubby. Ang saya saya na i could eat as much as i want to without even having to count calories or watching what i eat. Basta kain lang ng kain hehe. Sis basta kailangan veggies, legumes, whole grains, fruits. Additional tips: you could recreate mga pinoy ulam using fresh or dried mushroom or jackfruit (langka), tofu. You could make paksiw na "lechon" using langka (not yung hinog ha). Pero as much as possible load up with fruits and green leafy veggies. At first medyo mahirap magisip ng kakainin pero as you go along marami naman pwede makain. Medyo hinay lang sa mock meats, vegemeats mga ganun kasi empty nutrients pa din yun lalo na pag gusto umiwas sa mga sakit sakit you have to stay away from processed foods. The key is to eat plant based foods close to its natural state. The less process it went through, the better kasi mas may nutrients. I am really so happy kasi lagi ko sinasabi if i could just help just one person it could go a long way. Good luck!

^for the palabok i made the palabok sauce using potato, carrots, nutritional yeast, black salt, onion powder, pepper, garlic powder.  Toppings tofu, garlic, spring onion, mushroom chicharon. Pm ko na lang sa yo how hehe. Veganize your pantry din as you go along. Mahirap syempre sa una kasi di mo alam ano kailangan mong supplies na gagamitin mo regularly. Saka sis ako kasi kaya determined talaga kasi sabi ko i want to continue travelling with my hubby kahit magkaedad na kami, na ayoko yung sumasakit tuhod ko, ayoko din uminom ng maintenance medicine mga ganun. Discipline and control talaga. When i was transitioning lagi akong may nilagang kamote, saging na saba (pinahihinog ko then i eat it raw hindi ko niluluto para intact ang nutrients nya. Sweet naman din sya pag hinog na), fresh langka na frozen, dalandan, etc mga ganyan para in case magutom ako in between meals hindi ako matempt na kumain ng junk. If i need to go out bigla i would just grab a few pcs of banana para pag nagutom ako sa daan kasi madali lang kainin ang banana. Mga ganun. Syempre as you go along machachallenge din pagkacreative mo. I know vegans who lost weight and reverse diabetes by eating vegan pizza and vegan ice cram. Ang saya di ba.

Additional tips: it is very important to always read labels. Example like sa toyo, i use kikkoman pero yung blue ang label nya kasi yun ang walang preservatives. Yung red and green may preservatives. Kasi d ba there are harmful ingredients din minsan. Like sa vegan cheese or dairy. Kung bibili ka ng dairy free milk like almond milk, soya milk, oat milk, etc avoid Carageenan and Casein because these are cancerous. Ako as much as possible binibili ko yung konti lang ang ingredients at kilala ko lahat ng ingredients hehe like the kikkoman blue if i am not mistaken parang tatlo lang ata ingredients nya or apat wheat, soy, salt parang ganyan.

You have to try to eat it a few times before mo maappreciate ang lasa nya kaya i suggest whenever kakain ka ng pasta yan gamitin mo in place of parmesan para masanay ang dila mo. Pero after a while you will start to realize na ok naman din pala at least dairy free pa. :)

Makiki suggest lang about the nutritional yeast aside from sauces..

You can also use this as:

Sawsawan - instead of normal
Toyo calamansi..add nitritional yeast until mejo lumapot ng konti.. Sarap nito partner sa halos lahat especially tofu

Sprinkle on top of your rice/ramen/soups - for added nutrition

Salad dressing - super sarap! Even just calamnsi, olive oil, yeast, you can add garlic too.. Etc

Palaman sa bread - super sarap ng just toast, butter (Or whatever substitute) and yeast! Can also be added to whatever is your gourmet sandwich.. Like sliced avocados, tomatoes, beans, greens, rub the garlic sa toast, put olive oil, salt.. Then sprinkle yeast :)

Can also be added to guacamole.
Sobrang versatile ng yeast :)
