Just be careful mga sisses when taking meds. My dad's former doctor prescribed DIAZEPAM/valium for him. Imbes na nakatulong sa insomnia and depression niya eh lalo pang lumala, to the point na nagha-hallucinate na siya, 3-4 hours of sleep in a day, on-off panic attack, excessive sweating, abnormal BP...

Some of his meds walang mga name, hindi din nabibili sa drugstore, yung mismong doctor ang nagbebenta, kaya nakakatakot... di namin alam kung ano ang mga ingredients. I'm glad we switched to another doctor, he's now ok -- as in ok na talaga -- wala ng mga ganong episodes. Although he's still taking meds pa din, at least available sa mga drugstores. Based sa sinabi ng current doc ng papa ko, madami daw siyang patients who took valium, mas lalo daw lumala ang condition. Just beware mga sisses!

When I get depression, I buy all snacks or sweets I like, and watch Anime.
This was the best way I got healed.
I don't know why but it worked me.

I feel like I'm suffering from depression for a very long time na. I recently took an online test from 2 different websites and they both told me na I have high risk of having "major depression" and "Bipolar Disorder". I don't know what to do, where to start. I knew deep down something is wrong. Hindi ko alam ang next step ko, should I go to my GP for referral to a psychiatrist? Recently, nag sign up ako sa gym its been almost a month already and once palang ako nakabalik dun dahil ayoko rin kasi nagpupunta ng gym mag-isa. my sister, who's also a member of that same gym is on a holiday trip to Pinas so wala talaga ako makasama. Busy rin sa hubby sa work. I am making myself busy with work pero mas nsstress din ako.

Here are the common symptoms na which led me to thinking that I baka nga may bipolar or depressed ako:
1. lack of sleep. Even though I try so hard to sleep early I still wake up in the middle of the night for no apparent reason.

3. I have a difficulities maintaining relationships. I don't have a good relationship with my in-laws either no a close relationship with my own parents.

4. I feel so tired all the time.

5. I spend a lot! as in! Kahit na alam kong kukulangin kami sa budget because of the things I wanted to buy, go pa rin ako.  impulsive buyer lang ba? o iba na?

:(( help.

joining.... i haven't consulted any professional help yet, but i'm seriously considering to do so.

these past few weeks, i've noticed changes in my behavior (self-mirroring lang ito). are these signs of depression?

- i'm always scared that people i love will leave me. hindi lang sila mag reply sa text or mag answer sa calls ko, or mawalan lang sila ng konting time sa akin (even if their reasons are valid), i start to palpitate, have difficulty in breathing, then, nanginginig na muscles ko, and nangangalay yung nape and upper back ko.
- i always want people around me. natatakot ako lagi na mag isa.
- i cry alone, usually at night, before going to bed. what triggers it: i feel so frustrated with myself and with whats going on in my life. i also have a lot of resentments.
- i don't feel hungry the whole day. i can live on water alone. but, once i eat, usually at night, i cannot control the quantity of my food intake. as in super dami, mga 2-3 cups of rice!
- i always feel tired (and pressured) of being someone better. i always feel the need to show people that i am strong, i am courageous, i am positive.
- i find it too difficult to sleep at night, usually until early morning gising ako.
- pimple-breakout.

hi sis,

sis you need a medical help,,, THE   sypmtons You just cited are   signs of PANIC ATTACK,,

if you feel you're starting to have that attack, focus ka muna sa breathing mo,, deep breathing ka,
tapos try to compose yourself and think positively,,, easier said than done but try it,,,,

kasi minsan talaga ang kalaban natin sarili natin,, you feel low, inadequate, worhtless etc.

t try to read inspirational messages, lifting stories,,,and focus on  your blessings,,, try to look at the good side of everything,,,,

then isipin mo YOU ARE LUCKY COZ you dont have TERMINAL DISEASE, AIDS , LEUKEMIA AND ANY DREADFUL DISEASE!!!

know the roots of your problem coz most of the time, it 's the demons inside us that we cannot face
or  we have a traumatic or devastating experience that we try running away /  cant accept or let go..... and old cliche YOU DONT LOVE YOURSELF!!!!

BUT if you dont have any of those triggers,, then meron kang chemical imbalance that is according to Psychiatrist/ Psychologist nasa genes mo na... but that does not make you an INSANE PERSON,,

but THE GOOD NEWS IS YOU ARE NOT ALONE, and I/ WE are here to HELP!!! :)

^a depressive episode may last for months. so halimbawa, may depressive episode ako na nagsimula nung June until November. for every single day, pagkagising pa lang sa umaga, depressed ako.

iba yung depression na "feeling mo lang malungkot ka" sa clinical depression (major depressive disorder). all people feel "down" at some point in their lives, pero hindi automatic na may major depressive disorder (MDD) ka. you can see the symptoms of MDD in my previous post somewhere in this thread, just use the Search function. if you have most of the symptoms, consult a psychiatrist.

question lang mga sis, minsan nagkaka headache/lightheadedness/dizzy din ba kayo? may time kasi na may headache ako, lightheaded and kinda dizzy eh,lalo na sa morning, pero i can say naman na mild lang, at hindi yung tipong mag fa-faint ako,but still bothers me though, too much thinking siguro kaya sumasakit ulo ko? minsan kasi parang may something ako,na for example may mga errands na kailangan gawin, paulit ulit ko iniisip para di ko makalimutan kahit naka take note at naisulat ko na,still keep thinking it all the time, parang ganun, lalo na ngayon, kaka lipat lang namin into another state and ang dami dapat gawin, parang start all over again (but i'm happy dito sa lugar na nilipatan namin),and then sumabay pa yung pag approve ng Petition ng Parents ko (which i am so Thankful to God at ang tagal ko pinag Pray ito) kaya ayun, ang dami ko iniisip, like make sure complete yung documents nila for medical and interview, parang ganun, yung parang minu minuto iniisip ko yun, kahit alam kong ok na at naka ready na lahat ng docs nila, haay sumasakit ulo ko, haayy...panira talaga itong nararamdaman ko, sobrang saya ko eh, dahil finally naka lipat na kami dito sa lugar na gusto namin at this time for good na, sobrang Thankful pa ako dahil waiting na lang ako sa interview ng Parents ko at maka punta na sila dito, kaya lang hinaharangan ng nararamdaman kong ito yung dapat na happiness ko eh, kainis, I've been waited and Prayed these things for so long, tapos just a couple of days before kami lumipat dito bigla ko naman na feel itong ganito,haaayyy... :-[

Hi. I've been diagnosed with clinical depression. I initially though that I was just having the blues and that I could snap out of it (working out, spa, quitting my job, shopping spree, traveling, blogging) but it just got worse. Much worse. Everything was meaningless. I felt empty, angry, and frustrated. I no longer enjoyed the things I did and was constantly thinking of dying.

It's normal for me to feel down and low whenever unpleasant things happen but nothing could have prepared me for major depressive disorder. Just think about not being able to sleep at all, then having severe anxiety attacks every single day (involves nausea, vomiting, aggression, lethargy, dreadful migraine, palpitation, blurred vision). What's even worse, you feel nothing except for hollowness, worthlessness, aggression and guilt. I also became a slow thinker and my vocabulary has been markedly reduced for some unknown reason. I behaved like a totally different person and my marriage kind of suffered for it.

Clinical depression is not some "blues" that you can get over with by simply exercising, going out more often or eating a truckload of chocolates. You need professional help. Believe me, I prayed a lot, read a lot of self help books, tried to do things I enjoyed frequently, watched funny movies, took fish oil supplements, and a lot more but nothing happened. NOTHING.

I'm now seeing a shrink (who prescribed me Zoloft and Xanax) and a therapist. Things have been improving so far. I asked my doctor how can this happen when I'm living a good life. He said there's nothing much I can do because it's a chemical imbalance in my brain that could have been triggered by something (whether genetic or environmental, doctors can't tell).

^ PMd you, sis. Sorry, wala ako sa Pinas. :(

It's the first time that happened to me and I felt silly for using the word "depressed" before whenever I had the occasional "blues". Ibang klase pala talaga ang MDD.You don't feel pleasure AT ALL. I didn't even feel love for my family, husband, pets, etc.. I was just empty and I found myself wishing it'd be better to die or disappear because life has nothing more to offer. On top of that I often felt unwell (headaches, tummy aches, back aches, lethargy, and a lot more).

So yes, medical professionals are needed to help you cope with this.

I was depressed 2nd half last year. I opted to just help myself na lang. I downloaded "Cognitive Behavior" and ayun, nakatulong din siya sakin. Pag minsan bumabalik na naman ako sa depression, binabasa ko yung ebook hanggang sa masa-buhay ko yung mga tips nila on the right way of thinking. I do de-stressing activities, watch movie, massage, hand/foot spa... Ako kasi when I'm at work, di ako dinadapuan ng depression. during weekends lang na maaalala kong single na pala ako and wala na ako ka-date. haha

I should have clarified... exercise to help prevent depression, or when you already feel the first pangs of depression. Mahirap na kasi kung lumala na, and you'd become dependent already on doctors and drugs to treat you.

I felt depressed several times. Ang pinakamalala was back in the university days, after a breakup. From that down lahat ng grades ko (I was doing very very well in school), couldn't study and I entered one relationship after another just to forget that depressing breakup.

Admittedly, I didn't consult a doctor for that. Maybe because I didn't know I should. Depression na pala yun.

Anyway, I only overcame that when I graduated. As of now I sometimes feel pangs of loneliness, but before I get into full blown depression like what I've experienced before, I'd get myself busy on things. Tulad ni sis @plumpolka I try not to get myself idle and surround myself with people when I know I will be idle.

Good for you, you got through it. I wish tuloy-tuloy na. It could be that you were suffering from mild to moderate depression (MDD/clinical depression is severe and can be debilitating).

It hit me when I was at my busiest. I tried to ignore it for a while because I thought it was just severe sadness which I experience occasionally.. but no matter how hard I try, I couldn't do anything about it anymore. I went to spas, shopping sprees, bought a lot of self-help books, exercised a lot, and did pretty much everything. Nothing happened.

Sis Freelancer Babe, I was into working out even before I started feeling the symptoms. Typical mild to moderate depression can be managed by surrounding yourself with positive people, self-help books, etc....  Clinical depression almost always needs medical intervention.

sis siguro first step is not to feel alone. ask a close friend to help you. nakakatulong din if napaguusapan ang mga iniisip mo rather than to drown on your own thoughts. doctors and medicines also help, pero mas mapapabilis yung recovery kung may support group. sis, we are here to listen... :)
