I am currently suffering from depression. This happened just last week when my father was admitted to the hospital the daye bfore my wedding. So he wasnt able to walk me down the aisle. I was also stressed that time because my sister who is supposed to be my Maid of Honor looked after my dad so I was left all alone to do all the tasks on the day of my wedding. Plus, when I get back to work I was assigned to a new job that I didnt like. Madami rin natanggal sa team namin so wala  narin ako masyadong nakakausap kapag pumapasok ako sa office. There are even times na mag isa nalang ako. =(

I don;t know what to do. Hindi ko alam kung pano ma overcome tong depression na to. I dont know If resigning from work and looking for a new job will help... Nothing's keeping me busy kasi. Most of the time din kasi petiks sa work. =(

there are serotonin inducing foods u can take, just google it, some examples are turkey, peas, sunflower seeds.

exercise also plays a good part

taking st johns wort alleviates it (allegedly)

i dont know if ur taking birth control pills or any other medication (coffee diet or any coffee or any meds) it will greatly affect your mental state

if u have any unresolved issues in the past maybe you subconsciously want to seek closure..there are some steps on letting go (google it)

No. 1 RULE: one must have a good support system.

I've experienced different patients na din. kahit ano at dami pa ng gamot inumin niyan, kung poor ang support system para help yung patient to cope up, useless.

Agree ako dyan sis, malaki talagang bagay ang may support system everytime we feel sadness or depression. When things are unbearable we must lean on sa mga family at friends natin in times of need.

The only way is to get through with it. And of course wag mawawalan ng faith.

Pag nakakaramdam ako ng depression na tipong hindi makatulog ng ilang days. I go out and walk, and there i learn more things like maswerte pa rin ako compare sa mga taong nasa streets. To the point na i join on small charities and there i felt more accomplished & fulfilled :) .

hindi ko rin alam. siguro talk it out with a friend or get professional help , kasi yun yung hindi ko pa nagagawa. I was never diagnosed  but I have been having cycles of low moments even before puberty hit. As in I was not abused at all pero 9 years old pa lang I started having suicidal thoughts.
Ok naman na ngayon, minsang pagiyak na lang kahit walang rason.

hi sis ask ko lang kc you have mention na you almost died caused of ivf?what happened sis?kase were planning to go ivf din ng husband ko next year and  i don't have depression anymore and i used to suffered with panic attacks din before..but now its all gone na..pero meron paring minsan pasundot sun dot na panic attacks pero i can handle nanaman my self.what happen ba sayo sis just wondering lang kase i to had suffered severe anxiety rin.. t
Hi sis.... You need to see a doctor if you are suffering from it. I've been diagnosed with severe anxiety when i almost died due to an ivf complication. Anyways... ayaw ko din na magdepend sa medication. I graduated from my anti anxiety meds last december 2011. I started taking them up in September 2011. Some factors triggered my anxiety so i had to go back with my meds. Nalungkot ako kase i felt i was medically dependent na. As in parang di ko na mahandle self ko... and why i need to medicate just to feel ok. And the doctor explained.... "Parang hypertension yan or parang diabetes.. na there's something wrong in your system na dapat icorrect. You have triglycerides, cholesterol or sugar na sobra kaya dapat uminom ng gamot para mabalance. As for anxiety, you have imbalance of dopamine and serotonin so you have to take meds to balance it. And once ok, you can graduate from medication too. But as the other illnesses, there are times that they come back depending on your system..." As for me, it works. I came back with my meds in 2nd wk of feb... and i'm starting to wean from them again now.... so in a few weeks or months from now, graduate na ulit ako. Balik ka din sa exercise... nakakabalance yun ng serotonin at dopamine. Mag g gym ako mamaya. Start lang today :) You should help yourself. Don't deprive yourself from being happy. :) Hope to hear from you soon.

i know someone who dealt with depression too. she didn't take any medication kasi di siya naniniwala sa ganun.

bigla na lang siyang maiiyak, she can't sleep at night, gusto niya mag-isa, walang energy, etc etc..

ang naalala kong sabi niya on her case, since she's okay now, is that first you have to acknowledge the cause of your depression para alam mo din ang corresponding action to take, and then hang out with people you comfortable with kahit pa pakiramdam mo e gusto mong mag-isa.

hi sisses, if your feeling of depression/lowliness/hopelessness has been going on for more than a month now. please go see a doctor. depression affects not only us but our loved ones, career, relationship etc in a major-major way.. so please see a psychiatrist.

Seeing a doctor is not a sign of weakness. It is the acceptance/acknowledgement that we do need a medical intervention. As what our sisses have mentioned here, when it involves chemical imbalance in our system, we do need to see a psychiatrist.

I don't know if there is a cure for depression, only ways to deal with it. I've been dealing with depression for years now. Sometimes it seems to go away, but it always comes back. It is just a cycle. I manage it with medication and talk therapy but neither of them are regular. I always go off my meds for some reason or other ( for one, they are quite expensive- I'm taking Lexapro for the anxiety and it costs alot).  I've heard everything from "get some exersise" to "turn to Jesus." I'm not Christian and I don't believe in the Catholic Church so that's not a lot of help!

One of my main sources of depression is having to live here. I wish I could move to the US but , no visa, no citizenship. So I'm stuck here. Oh well! Life is terrible. Every day I pray to my angels (I went to a new age healer and she said I had six angels) to kill me via brain aneurysm because I'm too scared to do it myself. I really also fantasize about euthanasia being legal so I could kill myself quickly and easily. Don't you think it's cruel to force someone to live when they don't want to?
In the cartoon 'Futurama' the main character travels to the far future and accidentally enters a 'suicide booth'- something like a phone booth, except it's for you to commit suicide. That's my favorite daydream right now.

Count me in. I was clinically diagnosed in 2010 and it was the darkest day of my life. I was in and out of the hospital, not just one but 5 different hospitals. The nurses in ER already know me, consulted different doctors from internal med to specialist. Looking back of my experience, i do not know how I surpassed it. Maybe i was just lucky to have a very supportive family, my cousins would take me out for dinner or coffee, my dad would come home early from work just to check if im okay. They understand what I was going through, but not all of the people around me does. I have a friend who had a violent reaction about it, like she made me feel it was stup!d to be sad and it was just all in my head.
There were times that I couldnt sleep because there were so many negative thoughts running in my head.i also couldnt eat becauae I was scared that I might choked and die. I would listen to my heart beat every minute. I couldnt go out, afraid to have panic attacks. I became a prisoner of of my own mind. I consulted different doctors, a psychiatrist from st lukes prescribed me 2 anti depressants, 2 anti anxiet, and 1 that would help me to sleep. I didnt take the meds, instead I went to see a therapist. And the good thing about it is she never asked for a penny, she was just doing it because she likes to help people like me. Anyway 2 yrs has passed and I am far off better now, i still have "episodes" but I guess I am getting better at handling all the stres and sadness. To all of my sisters who are suffering from depression keep in mind that there is hope and you can surpass it just like me. Believe you can do it.

Hi mga sis. I've been dealing with depression and with the help of my psychologist, who practices Cognitive Behavior Therapy and REBT as well as Mindfulness/DBT, I'm so happy I'm able to cope with it...I suggest that you see a psychologist too (I've also seen psychiatrists but iba talaga pag psychologist eh, since talagang matagal ang sessions with them).

Can you post His/Her contact details here tsaka how much yung fee. mas maganda talaga ang Clinical Pyschologist because tuturuan ka how to handle situations unlike Psychiatrists who will just drug you.

Hi mga sis, I am really worried about my bf. He has this tendency to be anxious and the feeling that people are talking about him, watching him, wanting to have revenge because of an incident at work in the past. He is not very sociable, ayaw nga niya tumagal sa labas, gusto niya lang lagi sa bahay.. He knows somethings wrong with him and after a few months naging okay siya, bigla nalang ngayon he is acting like crazy at bumalik na naman anxiety attacks niya. Advice naman what professional help does he need?

it looks like anxiety to me. If you go to a psychiatrist, they will just prescribe anti-depressant medications.

Better go to a clinical psychologist, dun  ka na lang po sa doc ni sis tawnylee. i am also getting the contact info of her psychologist kasi pupunta din ako dun.

Hi sis...share ko lang ako...I have cyclothymia, depression and anxiety disorder...kawawang kawawa diba hahaha...buti nalang nagpatherapy ako. It's not 100% okay yet but at least wala na suicidal tendencies. Also please be supportive of your boyfriend..

Ako sis iniwan ako dahil may mental illness daw ako. Ang sakit .  :'( If mahal mo sya sis support mo sya ha...

thanks for the reference sis tawnylee. have you checked some of your relatives or grandparents if they have cyclothymia, depression, anxiety disorders too? they are typically inherited.

in my case, i have OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder), mild depression, panic disorder, everyday i always have obsessive thoughts like someone is going to hurt me mga weird thoughts and siyempre frequent handwashing due to fear of germs.

i found out that my first cousin have OCD too, siya naman have the habit of being obsessed with rechecking every door and locks.  ;D pero ang maganda sa kanya wala siyang mild depression.

right now sis, very helpful yung Mindfulness Meditation. read mo po yung Minfullness for Dummies, Full Catastrophie Living, The Mindful Way through Depression.

basically, ang concept ng meditation is you accept the unpleasent feelings in the same way we accept happy feelings. At first this may sound crazy, pero once you start to learn to accept the unpleasent feelings, the unpleasent feelings are actually reduced instead na lumakas.

So parang reverse psychology siya, ang example nito ay yung halimbawa nasugatan ka sa kamay. kapag ninamnam mo yung sakit, tapos i-feel mo siya ng mabuti ang nangyayari ay parang namamanhid ka na at di mo na iniinda yung sakit. as if nagkaroon ka ng built in pain killer just because you accepted the pain instead of avoiding it.

according to the book, the unpleasent feelings of depression will actually get stronger if we are trying to avoid it. Pero once we welcome and accept the feelings of depression, namnamin ang sakit at hopelessness and just consider it as another feeling, na-rereduce yung unpleasent feelings.

Thank you sis tawnylee! ang mahal pala.. my bf seems okay now, what support can I give him? advice? In my own understanding and research it helps na I talk to him a lot right? I asked him to write his thoughts everyday, think happy thoughts, day dream.. right now may time sumasakit kase daw ulo niya, ano kaya reason nito?
