just came back from my 3-day brunei trip.  IMO, the must place to visit would be the empire hotel.  i can stay there for one full day and forget about other places to see. 

brunei is small and i think one day is actually enough to roam around the place. for someone who is into shopping and night markets, i'm disappointed.  our malls are far better than theirs.  you may also want to check out their mosques and the water village.

good thing there's no traffic there. if you intend to commute by bus, it's 1 brunei dollar to any destination.  taxi fare is quite steep.

i don't know with others but the country is comparable to Subic.  clean and yes, you can easily spot a monkey - and you're at their city at that.

hi sis, super sorry for the late reply. No, we didn't bother to go to Labuan (Malaysia) kahit na 1-hr ferry trip lang sya.  You may want t try it though 

Initially, we had our dollars changed at the airport pero super baba kasi ng rate.  We're just lucky coz my cousin who is actually Brunei-based was there at that time (flight stewardess kasi siya) so siya na nagpalit. Pero meron naman sis sa malls yun.  And note that they do honor Sing dollars.  Here in Manila, mas mataas value ng Sing compared to Brunei dollars.

As to itinerary, we just visited the basic places: Empire Hotel, Kampung Ayer (Water Village), Brunei Museum, Gadong Mall, Yayasan Mall, the Sultan's Palace (hanggang gate lang) and yung Mosque.

How many days ba kayo, sis?  IMO, di talaga siya pang-tourist eh.  But the Empire Hotel is a MUST talaga.

^sis thanks sa reply! saturday night flight namin.. tuesday ng madaling araw balik.. plan namin mag side trip ng malaysia.. based nga sa research namin wala talaga masyadong mapupuntahan pero excited kami sa empire hotel.. day trip lang kayo sa empire? pwedeng basta pumasok lang dun? may nabibili din bang pasalubong sa brunei? thanks ulit!

yeah, we were at Empire Hotel the whole afternoon.  hindi naman namin pinuntahan lahat ng sulok ng hotel..hehe. sobrang nagandahan lang kami lalo na pag nakita mo yung bandang pool area.  tumambay lang kami ng bonggang bongga dun.  walk-in is perfectly fine.  sa sobra ngang ganda, nalimutan ko na bumili ng chocolate. bili ka daw dun, sis - known daw sya for that 

for pasalubong, nothing much really.  with me, i just ensured that i will need to take home ref magnets..haha   gave some of my friends Brunei fans (nothing special naman sa design) - wala na kasi akong makita eh.  For the house, I bought Patchi chocolates - which is actually expensive there as well.

According to my friend who is based i Brunei, they do accept SG dollars there. Same value lang daw.

^Yes, they do. Way back in 2002 when we were there ginagamit namin SGD nung naubos yung BND namin.

Doable kaya pag overnight stay lang dito or day trip lang? kahit makablik kamisa KK ng midnight ok lang.

^lilstar definitely di kaya ang day trip lang.

We went to Brunei from KK last December. To get to Brunei from KK, you need to take a ferry from Jesselton Point in KK to Pulau Labuan (1 1/2 hrs, only 2x a day 830am and 130pm). Then you have to jump and take another ferry right away from Pulau Labuan to Muara in Brunei otherwise you'll be stuck in Labuan.

Kung overnight naman, it will mean you'll only have the afternoon and evening to explore Brunei because the ferries going the other route leave at 8am-830am and 430 PM na to Labuan. And last trip from Labuan to KK leaves at 1 or 130 PM.

We stayed 2 nights in Brunei and it was already enough to see everything for us.

^ Thanks sis. Natatakot lang ako ma-stuck sa Labuan e. Pero nag kainterest talaga ako sa Brunei nagyon. Why not visit the one of the richest country in the world na napakalapit lang sa PH.

Mag pplan ako ng IT for Brunei kasi 4 days lang ang vacation namin e. i hope masqueeze ito with Brunei side trip..

It's nice, we actually liked it compared to the other places in Sabah that we visited. There's not much to see or do but Brunei had a pleasant atmosphere.

Taxis are rare because most people have cars but there's the very efficient state run purple buses

Try to look for shops selling gold jewellries. Good quality ginto nila. My Dad worked there as a teacher since 1983 - 1989. Ok naman sahod nya as an expat. Kasama bahay at educational allowances naming mga anak nya. Nung time na nanjan si Papa, lagi nyang pasalubong ke Mama e gintong alahas.

Tagal ko nang di nakapunta jan. Last was in 1995. Ginto ang naalala ko pag naririnig ko ang Brunei. Try to buy gold, tapus ibenta nio dito sa Pinas.

^When we were in Brunei Oct. last year, mahal ang ginto.  I don't know the reason for this and dun sa mga napuntahan naming mga stores, parang luma yung mga designs ng jewelry.  But as they say, good gold quality nga daw.
