Jewelry Investment
« on: January 07, 2010, 05:36:27 pm »
Hi sisses,

maganda po ba talagang investment ang pagbili ng alahas? as in sure na tumataas ba sya pag tumatagal? ilang % naman po yung taas?

Thanks.

personally, i don't believe in jewelry as investment. even if may mga nagsasabi na tumataas naman ang value ng gold sa stock market, hindi naman sa stock market binebenta ang alahas, eh.

Good investment lang pag nabilimo ng mababa then mabenta mo ng mataas.

jewelry with diamonds are good for reselling since, girls love them. although sa pawnshop they dont consider the stone, only the gold.so somehow pag naremata ang alahas na may diamond talo ka kasi mahal ang bili mo.

minsan tulog din ang pera ng matagal kasi terms din ang payment, seldom are the cash buyers.

Me too. I don't think jewelries are  good investments. Unless mamili ka nga ng mura and mabenta mo ng mahal, which is super rare naman. Though an officemate bought a jewelry from Japan nung na-assign sya dun, tapos when she pawned it, nagulat sya at antaas ng value~ But rare yun, parang swerte lang.

I think though kung hilig mo and maalam ka sa jewelries, it might work. Pero kung jewelry for investment's sake lang..baka matulog nga lang ang pera mo kapag nagkataon.

Tama si Sis. Kung may makukuhanan ka ng mura, it will be a good investment. Problem kasi is not all people are interested in buying jewelries.

my elder sister is into selling jewelry, actually lahat binebenta niya pero dito sa jewelry siya talaga kumikita ng malaki, kasama na ding sa foreigners siya nagbebenta from gold, white gold, silver and commercial jewelries.nakajackpot din at ngayon nagpapadala na din siya ng jewelry sa ibang bansa. okay din kasi kapag hindi nagustuhan ng buyers, napapapalitan niya sa supplier niya sa ongpin.

I agree.

Coz if you are talking about liquidity and appreciation in jewelry as investment... konti pa lang nakita ko nakabenta na hindi palugi kapag nangangailangan magbenta.

BUT if you will look at jewelry investment as a hedge versus price increases in the future, sure go ahead.
What I mean is... for example, if you buy a 2K diamond ring now, and well, gold price trends definitely go up, same with diamonds...that, for example, P1peso price now will surely be P1++ in a few years.

Jewelry as an investment to keep or to gift away... sure, go ahead.
But jewelry as an investment to profitably turn-around or as a nest egg for bad times... no.

I agree din na jewelry is not a good investment. I mean it's nice if you have the money to purchase them and pass them on to your loved ones pero expecting to sell them at a profit in the future is quite difficult.

right! according to a financial planner pov, jewelries are actually liability of a person. very seldom could we sell it at a higher price if we need immediate cash.. basically because it's not a liquid asset.

on the other hand, if you're investing on jewelries for business purposes, the income generated from it is quite GOOD. but will depend on the kind of market/client you'll have.  ;)

but since, i love jewelries, i invest into it and make it my sideline at the same time... ;) ;D

If you have spare money, go ahead buy diamonds pero dapat masinop ka sa alahas (baka mawala or manakaw) pero yung eto lang invest, I don't think it is a good idea

I "invest" in jewelry more for purposes of additional mana for my daughter and son.  Not really intending to make money out of it. Same with the watches that my husband and I collect...pangpamana sa mga anak.  ;)

I'm thinking it's a sound investment kasi you dont really have to sell it to make money diba. I'm thinking pwede siya for rent sa weddings, debuts, etc. then kapag may buyer na you can sell it same price as you bought it kasi you already earned nung pinarent mo. just my two cents. havent tried it though

I agree with LEELA's view.
Jewelry too is not that easy to sell, as LEELA indicated.
Per my observation,  ang mga nagmamadali or nangangailangan to unload jewelry -- usually do so at a loss.

Jewelry is a good investment in the sense that if you buy now, assuming these are normal times not panic times ha, most probably -- you will spend less for the same item/s kesa bilhin mo a year or so later coz gold prices are always on an uptrend.

For me, sure it's nice to own... and for a certain lifestyle, jewelries are a requirement, but these sure don't earn for you.
(I wouldn't rent out jewelry.  I do not think  I can have that business insured here.  Eh kung mawala... pano pa ako babayaran?  Kaya nga nag rent ng jewelry kasi hindi maka buy)

I always prioritize real estate properties, specially rental properties , over jewelry anytime. (Nakawala na rin ako ng major jewelries, pero hindi pa ako nakawala nang real estate   LOL)
There are times too when I  prefer investing in top artists' paintings.  Pag jewelries... ako lang happy kasi ako lang  gumagamit.
Pag nakasabit  major  painting..  marami happy.

But I will not argue with you .. kelangan may jewelries.  But know when to prioritize other investment alternatives.  There is such a thing as moderation even when it comes to jewelries, those  things our hearts yearn for.  LOL

I seldom buy jewelry kasi it'll just end up in the vault and I hate to sell it.

I reckon better investments are Corporate Bonds by Ayala, SMC, SM or bank issued. RTBs,  Stocks.  Lupa- sure hedge yan against inflation.

Ako I regret investing in jewelry.  nung start pa lang ako mag work, I bought some diamond jewelry.  I was thinking good buy since hindi magdepreciate.  Kaso now, sawa na ko.  hindi kasi ako talaga mahilig sa accessories.  nasa safe na lang for the past 6+ years.  I'm thinking of selling pero di ko naman alam kung saan and paano.

since namention ni aquacharly ang paintings, just want to share that i met someone a few months back who's into collecting paintings and selling as well. sabi nya saken she would rather invest in paintings than real estate na raw (though she has TONS of properties already) since ang paintings pwede nyang i-roll and ibitbit kung magmimigrate sya or if ever, mga anak nya. pero mga properties raw nya hindi nya kayang i-roll and ibitbit with her if she plans to leave the country eventually. LOL.

I love jewelries!  Gusto ko lang sila and not for investment.

Pero through the years natuto narin ako. Sa dami ng magnanakaw satin, at sa pagka carelessness ko, dami ko nawala na jewelry, studs! some pieces I love pa (iyak ako hehe).

^^ arte girl, sa mga jewelry stores din. I think can buy it back for you. pero important for you to canvas first sa labas.  magkano binebenta mga pieces similar to you.  I always think gold would be the easiest one - kasi gram lang, tapos anong klase sya.

diamonds are a bit complicated.  mas may value kasi kung mas malaki ang stone at mas white or kung mas clear. kung yellowish or mas maliit, most likely ayaw yan ng mga bumibili for resell.  tapos depende pa sa sumisilip. ako kasi di ako masyado marunong similip. pero meron pa kasi yang quality measure - VVS, VS etc.

I also love pearls! :)

for now, ibang jewelry ko I just keep them lahat sa safe except for 1 necklace, 1 pair of earrings and 1 ring (bigay ni hubby).

Kapag jewelries, idle ang pera. I think it's only for accessorizing and pamana ;)

my mom prefers jewelry and land investments.. before nung masagana pa buhay namin.. i kept asking my mom why she kept on buying gold jewelry.. yung mga binibili pa naman niya yung mga makakakapal that would cost like 50k up for a bracelet and a necklace 70k to 100k up.. puro 21karat pa.. she just answered me with.. in time we'll use these.. so ayun nga.. nangyari nasuot nga namin lahat ng jewelries but 40-60% of it naisangla po namin and yung property namin na isa naibenta din.. dahil nalugi businesses ng dad ko that time.. but now okay na ang business, whe bought properties na rin at this time my mom wanted to buy jewelries na ulit for investments ulit.. she was right all along.. na pag walang cash na hawak gold is as good as cash.. and just like lands, jewelries do not depreciate.. that's one good thing about my mom sobrang galing niyang magsave and as for my dad mahilig sa cars (which is nagdedepreciate) which i and mom hates kasi everymonth we spend like almost 50k for our cars' check up and change oil etc.
