Im not sure if that solves anything. Most techies I know would have already owned some sort of MP3 player and if they dont already own one they arent a techy . The thing is with techies is that they usually already know or have an idea what they want they are the ultimate consumer , darwinistically speaking. I suggest flanking the techy and getting the techy to tell you what he wants by saying something like " hey Im going to give my brother a present and he seems to like the same things you like? Any suggestions? " Voila! A targetted marketing study.

just wanted to share my own take on this.
i tend to be drawn to gadgets too, of course within my allotted budget. and for family, minsan may isang taon na lahat ng male family members and hubby, puro personal care products binigay ko, magka-terno sila in different variants nga lang. kahit na personal, eh personal naman talaga kasi related kami, so i know they wouldn't mind it. and i want something that they can use not for one-time only but for a few months into the new year

gifts I gave/giving hubby this xmas:
- perfume (this year, bought him Tommy Hilfiger Cologne by Tommy Hilfiger)
- mp3 player (sony walkman - NWZ-B162F in gold, mas gusto niya kasi sound ng sony than apple)
- pants and baseball shirts from echo park
- gaming mouse (for his pc)
- Benetton luggage

previous gifts to him this year:
- samsung galaxy tab (though gave him this one for his birthday)

since we are in a long distance relationship for more than 7 years at yearly lang syang nauwi I would like to give him a book kasi mahilig tlaga din syang magbasa, its our way our releasing stress pag nakkapagbasa ng mga inspiring books or it could be something na pede nyang maisuot sa work pagbalik nya ulit sa SG.

something sports related (paraphernalia, clothes etc)
food (alcoholic beverages, sweets etc)
things they can use for work (bags, thermo mugs)
something to tinker with
