Ngayon, i'll be working abroad next month and i went to sss office to convert my membership to self-employed. Saka yung monthly contribution is pwedeng ako pumili or based sa monthly salary ko? how about the housing loan for ofw members? when can I avail such loan? Sana may sumagot.. tnx!

SSS Housing Loan for OFW
« Reply #124 on: January 04, 2011, 05:13:07 pm »
The Overseas Filipino workers or OFW’s can take advantage of SSS Direct Housing Loan Facility that aims to provide low-cost housing for your family in the Philippines. If you’re younger than 65 years old, a certified OFW and an active SSS member with at least 12 months continuous contributions, you may be qualified to receive a housing loan from SSS. Loanable amounts for socialized housing is Php 300,000; for low-cost housing you can get a loan from Php 500,000 to Php 1,000,000. All loans can be paid in five years or for a maximum of thirty years, so long as it doesn’t exceed the building’s economic life. Interests rates are 9% for Php 300,000 loans, 13% for Php 500,000 and 14% for Php 1,000,000.

@amazingheart: you can continue your contribution as Voluntary member, parehas lang naman ang monthly contribution ng Self-Employed, Voluntary at OFW member (according to their range of compensation). ang pagkakaiba lang ng SE at VM is that hinahanapan yata ng business permit at ITR ang ng SE members. Fill-up ka lang ng RS5, check the box for Voluntary, indicate yong applicable period ng payment mo and that's it!

@KiatKiat20: My sister also used to pay her sss as voluntary member. Nung umalis sya to work abroad, binago nya yong status nya  from Voluntary to OFW. My mother updates her sss contri quarterly. As i've said to the amount of the contribution, pare-pareho lang ang monthly contribution ng Self-Employed, Voluntary at OFW member (according to their range of compensation).  Hope this helps.

when i resigned from work, i changed my status from employed to VM. nagamit ko SSS nung nanganak ako last august, 19k nakuha ko for normal delivery. i now pay my contribution quarterly.

i continue paying my SSS kasi makukuha mo rin yun when you retire, my philhealth kahit na philhealth member din si hubby kasi i have an old age parent na dependent ko. i stopped paying my pag-ibig pero lately ive been considering continuing it kasi mutual fund din siya and withdrawable after 15 years of continuous payment or when you reach your retirement age. pandagdag sa retirement egg nest  :)

pa-join...
I left government service about 6yrs ago & stopped my GSIS payment . Feel ko nappunta sa corruption  >:( pinag-ipunan ko sa GSIS dun so I didn't enrol na lang din sa SSS.
Ngayon, I've been thinking of enrolling & pay monthly contributions for retirement purposes.
Back read muna ako kung worth it ba talaga to or i should just stick with private insurance companies with good track record.

ang labo naman nyan sis, isumbong mo kaya. kung walang voluntary membership, di sana nakalagay yan as one of the choices of SSS membership here. baka tinamad mag entertain yun sayo sis.

yes.
after i resigned from my job i continue my contributions from employed to voluntary. check nyo lang yung voluntary member sa form when paying your contributions(RS5) sa pagkakaalam ko automatic na magrereflect yun sa status nyo.

I have read through this thread and other SSS threads in other forums. I've come to the conclusion that SSS is not for me. I can do better by investing my money somewhere else with higher returns rather than waiting and relying on our ever-trustworthy government for pension.

I also don't like the horror stories here where after years and years of depositing and investing, they still haven't been able to benefit from their money because someone took a loan out against their name or they're not getting the right amount because the computations are wrong.

I'd rather manage my finances on my own. If all goes right, then good, but if something goes wrong, well, I have only myself to blame.

I mean, let's say you decided to get your contribution since nasa age 45 ka palang naman, may interest bang makukuha dun sa amount na na contribute mo or kung how much lang talaga yung total na nalagay mo?

What If you didn't withdraw your contributions and you're 65 na, how much would you get? May iba pa bang makukuha aside from the total contribution na binigay mo like health benefits..etc or may interest din?

You really have to wait for your retirement age. Puwede lang makuha ang naging contribution mo kung permanently na aalis ka na sa bansa (i.e. migrate to another country).

^Actually, from what I read in the previous SSS threads, there are people who completed the 120 contributions who decided to get their money early. You always have the option to start another 120 contributions if you're still far from retirement age.

As for the interest, I'm not so sure about that. And how they compute how much you'll be getting per month when you retire is a mystery. Some people on this thread said that you'll get a higher amount if you contribute more in the years before your retirement, but you gotta ask SSS to be sure. The usual SSS benefits apply: sickness, maternity, retirement, disability, death and funeral.

^ I actually haven't tried it myself either nor do I know anyone who has done it. I'm just basing that off this quote from angeleigh.

Polykarblush, I guess you can ask angeleigh your questions since her mom has done that. But if our SSS is anything like the social security system in the US, the downside to withdrawing early is the monthly pension you'll be getting will be smaller compared to those who decide to wait.

But if you can make the 120 contributions again AND someone on this thread said that you'll get a higher pension if you contribute more in the years right before your retirement, then why not withdraw it right?

^my mom started working when she was only 19-20. 46 na siya now. an attorney friend of her advised her to take out the 10years worth of her contribution. pwede daw yun, kasi nga 120 contribution lang naman ang kelangan to be able to avail the retirement benefits. tutal naman daw, by the time u reach 65, eh makakailang contribution ka na ulit, tapos by that time e mas mababa na ang worth nung money mo. kaya tinakeout ng mom ko yung contribution niya, tapos inivest niya sa jewelry.
