Kakabasa ko lang ng 1 and 2. Gusto ko yung one favorite ko si rue ang medyo kawawa si peeta. Medyo nabored ako ng konti sa 2 pero pwede na. Ang lampa naman ni peeta at medyo annoying siya dito. Mokingjay na ko pero tinatamad akong basahin, chapter 7 pa lang ako. Parang extra lang naman si gale.

Buti na lang maayos yung mga kinuha nilang actors. Hindi sila mukang nakakainis.

i love this trilogy pero bitin ako sa Mockingjay. bitin ako sa ending, para kaseng brief lang eh lalo na yung lovestory ni katniss and peeta. sana magkaroon si suzanne collin ng additional series about this. impossible kaseng may part 4 pa eh.

Nakakaaliw lang kasi almost the same lines from the book were used also in the movie (SC also wrote the screenplay pala, that's why)

^got the boxed set at a discounted price. Me sale sa NBS. i finished the first book two days before watching the movie. Ok naman, our family liked it. Tamad pa ako basahin ang 2nd book.

I just finished the first book and have mixed feelings.

I dislike the sort of government that Collins is presenting. It's not a proper dystopia because the type of government is consistent with district one being so rich and a bunch of capitalist lapdogs, while the other farther districts are like communist stray dogs, bereft of attention. Now this is inconsistent because the two cannot co-exist, and judging by the way Panem is run, it will only work if the people are brainwashed enough. If the government and a single leader takes on the image of a father who loves but discipline them. I do not see this here as everyone seems ro secretly hate the Capitol.

What makes 1984 the best dystopia ever, is that Orwell had literally predicted what could happen to a communist country in the not so near future. (i.e. the happenings in North Korea not so long ago has a striking resemblance with 1984's heart wrenching ending)

Or this might just be my nitpicky self, being a sucker for dystopian stories.

What's genius about the story, I think, is her creativity to invent words and concepts that all connect together. Very good as a sci-fi novel.
But another good edge as a dystopian is the idea of a "hunger games" that is hauntingly realistically entertaining even from a book. She taps into one of the Freudian primal instincts here: violence. The thought that deep within each of us is a barbaric monster waiting to devour whatever comes in the way of our survival, and are entertained by our ability to connect to a show of what seems to be a relection of this instinct regardless of the cost... Is scary. And thus, brilliant.

Is Mockingjay better than Catching Fire? I'm having doubts if I should read it, CF bored me to death.

I agree, catching fire is boring..super bitin pa..but, yes..Mockingjay is definitely better!!!

Hooray! May thread nito sa GT! Because of the movie, I read the story synopsis in Wikipedia so I had an idea already. I read book 1 before the movie was shown. I read Catching Fire and Mockingjay during this past long holiday. I need to vent out my feelings about this amazing trilogy. Warning, spoilers ahead.

The Hunger Games - The reality TV concept fascinates me. With the prep team and all.  I like SC's writing style. She doesn't use too many words. Team Peeta in this book.

Catching Fire - this is my favorite book in the series. I felt that the characters were developed here. I switched to Team Gale here but I reverted to Peeta at the middle of the book. Maybe I like the mushy Peeta lines that's why I like this one. hehe. 

Mockingjay - Haunting haunting haunting. The last three chapters could've been written longer - like 10 chapters. I read that SC wants to write about war. I think her message is conveyed in Mockingjay: nobody really wins in a war. In this book, we realize that the victors did not really win - they are still Capitol's slaves in a way. Katniss got crazier. Gale got colder. Peeta was lost. The other characters suffered. I've been rooting for Peeta so I was kinda pleased they ended up together - but they were not the same characters in book 1. The war changed both of them.

The series is not comparable to HP and Twilight. But among the three, this is the one that gripped me the most. When I read HP7, I felt that the whole series was fully wrapped up. No questions. All issues sa HP 1-6 was addressed. Even in Twilight. For this series, there are a lot of holes. Not that the details can really affect the war or the plot, but as a reader who had a bond with the characters, I'd like some closure what happened to them,

What happened to Gale? I actually had to go back and find what was his last conversation with Katniss. "Your family was the only thing I had going for" Gale says - and Prim was killed by possibly his bomb. I think he knew he lost Katniss when the bomb killed Prim.

What happened to the other surviving victors - Beetee, Johanna, Annie?  Did they keep track of each other? Seemed like they just disappeared. It was heart-wrenching to know that Annie and Finnick had a child. Tapos one sentence lang yun. It was a blow. I'd like to pretend I didn't read that. Huhu.

I agree with our fellow sissies here that parang minadali ang Mockingjay. "Peeta and I grow back together". Ayun na? Wala na bang mushy Peeta punchlines jan? I want SC to write more about HOW they got there. It deserves another chapter! But his last line seals it. Bravo.

What happened to the pearl?
What happened to Katniss' high tech bow?
What happened to District 13?

I've been thinking who is the real "winner" in the entire series. Everybody dies or lost someone or got tortured. Probably it is Plutarch - he wanted to end Capitol's reign and he got a role in the new government. But I really didn't "bond" with his character.

I hope the Hollywood movie of the Mockingjay can answer some questions. After all, the book was written from the perspective of Katniss. What was happening out there during her trial? What role did Peeta and Gale play there?

I like book 1. Kinda bored na, but still finished book 3. Not the best book series! If not for the movie, i think i will not read this series at all. I like the movie better.

I skipped Hunger Games since mas nauna ko napanood ang movie.. reading catching fire right now.. basahin ko nalang yung hunger games pag natripan ko.. ayaw ko kasi magbasa na pag napanood ko na yung movie eh! hehe
