Dr. Richie, I stopped wearing contacts about a year ago because it made my eyes really really dry. I was using O2 Optix and hypromellose constantly. Now, I thought my eyes were already okay but my eyes still become red when I'm in air-conditioned or smoke areas even if I wear glasses nalang. Ano kaya problem? Can it be something more serious than dry eyes?

It could be dry eye, could be a habit, could be a foreign body, could be a numch of other things. might as well have it checked by an ophthalmologist

It COULD be just dry eye that's making you contact lens intolerant. have you seen your ophthalmologist? if you are, then eyeglasses or laser ka malamang.

kahit sa charity services ng PGH, may bayad ang cataract surgery ng kaunti. You'll be hard pressed to find a decent cataract surgery for FREE. Those who really can't afford it (like street vendors or the like) are included in a once a month mission pero they undergo sreening by social services. Try PGH if you think you can pass as an indigent individual. If not, you can look for more REASONABLE prices. remember, in charity institutions, it is our residents-in-training who do the surgeries not consultants.

You are most welcome! I see you are talking about the Free Cataract Missions that are sponsored every now and then. If these are Training-hospital-based, then the PGH thing is quite similar.

If it's not based in a training hospital ( some minor hospital, or barangay hall, or something ), then it's generally community-based. This means that only people from that community are generally included. where are your parents located? The problem with these types of missions is that the eye doctors who do the surgery are generally not from that locality. so if there are problems, you generally need to go to where that doctor is based.  Basically, for missions like these, "after-sales support" is a bit harder. just like buying cheap gadgets at 168 mall

hello everyone, I'm newbie here. hi Dr. Richie, just want to ask regarding my mom. she has a glaucoma. 1 month na po siya under medication may mga pinapatak at iniinom na gamot. before her eye pressure was 50, then naging 30 until nagnormalize, just yesterday naging 30 na ulit. then her opthal advised her to have an operation dahil baka daw pumutok ang nerves sa mata nya. my mom has to come back on friday. actually pangalawa na itong existing opthal niya. the first one was not accommodating and doesn't want to answers some queries, mahirap daw i-explain. (weird doc talaga) i am worrying for my mom. my possibility po ba na bumalik ulit ang paningin ng isang mata niya if she will undergo operation? i heard from my friend that her dad had unsuccessful operation nakakita naman daw po pero nabulag na daw po ulit. my mom is located in cavite,and want to know is there any glaucoma specialist there?

Hello! Dr. Richie, just want to ask lang po .. meron po bang case na ang isang may astigmatism na hindi na patignan agad or late na nalaman, ang symptoms is hindi ma balance ang katawan hindi makalakad mag isa (nalulula), na sakit ang ulo, blured ang paningin, nasusuka at nasisilaw?

Kasi po yung mom ko  may hypertension then my damage po ang eardrum nya .. nag pa check-up po kami sa ENT and sa optometrist, pero sabi po ng optometrist  dahil po yun sa eyes nya. Possible po ba un ? sa eyes po ba or sa ears?  Thanks po.

Yes it's possible. I honestly don't know of one. pero I'm sure meron yan.

Astigmatism alone won't cause the problems you described directly. If the astigmatism causes migraine headaches, medjo pwede. However, if parang dinuduyan siya, it's most likely vertigo and that's related to the ear.  I suggest you see an ophthalmologist and an ENT.

   need help.. nagka prob ang dadi ko sa mata last year,
dinala cia ng mom ko sa PGH.. and we dis agree kasi willing kme magbayad ng kapatid ko.. ayaw lang nila kasi magastos daw, so tumuloy padin sila.. napansin ko lang.. ang tumitingin sa dad ko mga students, although meron head doc sila(if thats what u called it) IMO parang nabugbog lang yung mata ng dad ko.. ewan ko ba i feel bad.. parang sa tingin ko pinag practisan lang cia.. and nothing happens.. finally we decided na ipasok n talaga cia sa may bayad.. BTW, ang prob ng dad ko pag diretso tingin nia malinaw pero pag sa gilid blind daw.. wala cia nakikita.. after na nia ma laser/operahan.. ok namn daw sabi ng dad ko.. pero after ilang weeks lumalabo na namn daw mata niya.. so bumalik sila sa doc and the doc said magkakaroon daw ng cataract dad ko.. haay! on my part, ano b talaga.. gumagastos naman kami pero bakit parang pabalik balik lang kami.. i told my mom na wala aku tiwala sa doc.. i dunno, bilang anak parang ang hirap lang sa part ko makita na ganun yung dad ko.. sorry for the long story.. i just wanna know is it possible na after operahn/laser meron pa makikita bigla n cataract?? thnx.

fyi: yung doc nia sa PGH same din dun sa hosp na nilipatan namin na may bayad..  In PGH meron cia kasama students and i think inuutos nia yung gagawin.. pero pag may bayad cia lang.. (yun yung napansin ko).. 1 doc lang.. 2 diff hosp(private and public).

i don't know if there's any relation to this pag may nagre-red eye in pics. My cousin kasi when we were kids pag picture taking lagi sya may red eye one was always bigger than the other and yung isa ang laki that covered the iris halos.

my aunt had her checked and discovered she was blind pala in that eye. eh since kids all the while she thought naman na it was normal and learned nalang to live with it. so now pag nakakakita ako ng pics with super red eye na kakaworry for that person if its something they should be concerned about. yun lang duno how related that is talaga.

Dr. Richie what is  nystagmus ?na ka admit pa rin po  mama ko kasi sinasabi ng mga doctors meron parin konti, base yun sa nystagmus  ni mama. Pag ni move nya yung eyes sa left. Thanks po .

^one question i saw before at one clinic nakalagay 'pugita sa mata' cataracts din ba yun? i saw that nung maliit pa ako and never got the idea out of my head na may octopus or squid na tumutubo sa mata..eh impressionable ang mga kids sinusurf ko rin sya later on didn't see anything specific about that.

"Pugita" is the local equivalent of "Pterygium". It's different from a cataract.

Ako lalo na sa work ko ngayon almost 12-16 hours nakatutok sa computer, minsan before ako umwui may isang diretsong red line sa gitna ng mata ko, minsan sa gilid. tapos super nahihilo ako na parang di ko na kaya ibuka mata ko. eto talaga prob ko kasi almost everyday ako nkhrap sa computer, Di ko alam kung need ko na ba magsalamin para maiwasan yung palagiang pagsakit ng mata at ulo ko.

ako, i always take vitamin c. kasi it helps din to improve eyesight. i love poten-cee kasi masarap siya for me. i really love pascual brands. sometimes, i do take other supplements too. habit ko na siya sa morning. pinaka importante din for me yung eyesight kaya ayaw ko din magka prob sa paningin.

dati po medyo me pagkasingkit na bilugan yung eyes ko which is totally opposite now. nag bulge yung eyes ko, as in nakalabas na talaga. where should i consult this case po? medyo matagal na din toh eh. what should i do first para mahanapan toh ng solution? pls help me dr. richie! thanks in advance!

sis green-aholic, better try to consult a doctor as early as possible, yan kasi ang isa sa symptoms ng may thyroid problem.
