For all who have ideas,optha sisses, please feel free to give your opinions.

As a start, i want to ask help if anyone who could advise me. I'm an internet addict, and my work also requires long hours on computers (laptop). My eyes turns RED as in ALWAYS. is it stress? or because of PC?

i have a question, one time i felt na parang nagsh-shake yung eyes ko tapos may cloudlike something sa paningin ko and nahilo ako. what does it mean kaya? that was last month. after that day hindi naman na naulit. so hindi nako nagpa check up kasi baka stressed lang. whole day everyday din kasi ako nakaharap sa pc.

Question:

An eye doc charges P700 for the initial consultation.

IMO,  it is best to consult an eye doctor for any questions or discomfort when it comes to the eyes.   Do not delay on this.  Mahirap din to rely on cuento cuento .. blindless is irreversible, keep that in mind.

As for eye supplements, again.. best to consult a doctor on that.
Masyado nang maraming "no proven therapeutic benefits", sayang ang pera.

If you do a lot of work with the computer, as I do, take a break every 30 minutes.   Just long enough to shift focus of your eyes to something that is about 10meters away + to close it for a minute or so.

Do not rub your eyes,
do not borrow/lend eye cosmetics or beauty implements of other people...
avoid touching your eyes with your hands unless you have just washed your hands...
                     those are the basic eye care measures.

Take time to have an annual check up.  If we can spare time and funds to do facials, well.. we should be able to go for annual eye check-ups.

it's not free but we find the price reasonable.

my dad had cataract surgery on his right eye last wednesday, the left eye naman is scheduled for next wedensday.

american eye center - 68k/eye but if with senior citizen discount plus philhealth (he is my depdendent), 36k na lang per eye including everything except pre-suregery drops. retina and cataract work-up that was done aout a week before the procedure cost 4,000.

we also checked out asian eye center but my dad didn't like the way the ophtha handled his case. plus they quoted us about 80k/eye. he was happier with the ophtha at american eye.

doctor's PF for consultationss is 600, 500 with senior citizen discount.

ako i have high grade (450) both eyes. candidate for LASIK and as luck was on my side i have Glaucoma pa! hehe. anyway my doctor is from st. luke's. if you want to have your eyes checked alam ko ang consultation sa kanya is 500 pero thorough consultation yun. he will more or less advice you to buy "artificial tears" which can moisturize our eyes though he will not pilit you to buy from him. our eyes tends to get dry everytime we are in front of the computer and or reading kasi we always forget to blink. dami siya patient specially the old ones na may mga cataract and retinal detachment para siyang frendly na tatay minsan papagalitan ka.

Question: my dad's acquiantance is an optha sabi nung frend ko accding sa dad niya dapat daw if you are palnning to undergo LASIK wait at least na mag 30 Y/O ka kasi daw may tendency na bumalik pero when i asked my "st.luke's doctor" di daw totoo. help naman sis i dont know kasi who to believe eh minsan naisp ko baka sinasabi lang ni "ST. lukes doc" kasi syempre alam m na pera din yun (sorry if bad ako mag isip ha)

^ i have high grade too, 1550 on my left and 450 on my right, severely nerasighted, lazy eye and was glaucoma suspect last year. i have to have my eyes checked regularly to make sure the glaucoma doesn't develop.

if you are looking for another ophtha kahit for 2nd opinion on your lasik, i can refer you to mine. ang galing niya mag-explain and really gives you the facts so you can make an informed decision. since our our family ophtha died some years ago, nahirapan kami maghanap ng ibang ophtha namas-satisy kami, until this doctor was referred to us last year lang. he has clinic at capitol medical center and american eye.

my sister had lasik done a couple of years ago also at american eye.

I'm 18 and both my eye's are 6.50, nearsighted. I'm still waiting a few years to have Lasik treatment, just to make sure that my eye grade is a bit more stabilized and won't go up that much anymore. A mixture of hereditary (My Dad's eyes are both 1000+, Mom's is around 400), my love of reading books and hours in front of the computer. =p My mom used to send me eye supplements, the kirkland brand. But now I'm going to try the supplement Visionex from USANA. It's said to help lower ones eye grade, but I doubt that anything supplement can help lower that, but I am hoping it'll keep my eye grade from going up though. Has anyone else tried this? =]

LASIK in Manila, Philippines

@cristal28

You see, it's like this. Proficiency in Lasik (and other refractive surgery procedures) is not part of the normal ophthalmology residency program. Hence not all ophthalmologists know how Lasik has improved and changed through the last 10-13 years.

The person who will know is a Fellowship Trained Refractive Surgeon. If you ask any of these, they will tell you that you can have Lasik at any age PROVIDED the refraction has been stable  ( no change of more than 0.50D) for at least 6 months (even up to 1 year).

There's actually a lasik thread here:

http://www.femalenetwork.com/girltalk/index.php/topic,189800.msg5902270.html#msg5902270

http://www.femalenetwork.com/girltalk/index.php?action=search2

Actually, there seems to be more. Maybe the mods can lump them all together?

@MissMilcah37

Good decision. at 18, things do still change. Once it's stable, have it done na if you're a candidate. You are correct in that vitamins will not lower your eye grade. Like all supplements sold in the Philippines, they have this really small notation : "No Approved Therapeutic Claims". If we're talking about your usual grade, it is a function of the shape of the cornea and the length of the eyeball. Now, there is no vitamin or food supplement that has been proven to change any of these :)

@aquacharly

Kudos to people who think like you!

Why are you looking for FREE cataract surgery? Generally speaking, free cataract surgeries or cataract missions use residents in training to do the surgeries. I have been teaching cataract surgery to residents for about a decade. this is how we generate surgeries for the training residents. If things go bad, we come in.

If push comes to shove, then UP-PGH would be the way to go.

@shenggai
That's not bad. most likely, malaki lang pupils mo in the dark.

^ hi dr. richie, you seem to be an experienced optha :) may i just ask something i've already raised to my optometrist but was told that it's normal. in pictures kasi i noticed that my left & right eyes are not always in exactly the same direction/ horizontal angle. parang if my left eye's focused straight, my right eye's a bit off to the right, and vice versa. not by too much that it looks really bad, but i notice it. i tried looking at other people's pictures and there are some people na ganun din, although yung iba, normal naman. i was wondering if it's because i work at the office and i'm in front of the computer the entire time.

how can i resolve this or lessen it? hindi naman kasi sya ganun before. also are there eye drops that can make the whites of my eyes whiter? minsan kasi mapula sya & not clear due to stress. plus i have conjuctival melanosis sa outer edge ng left eye ko (according to the optha in UP infirmary).

thanks a lot!

1. If it's noticeable in group photos, then it's big enough of a deviation. It's not due to computer use. What you need to do is tell your ophthalmologist so they can determine if it's a "tropia" or a "phoria". Assuming you don't have double vision naman, it would be great to determine the cause before you can figure out the treatment.

You again have to determine why it's red before you can treat.

A long time ago, if your eye pressue is 26, we'd call you a glaucoma patient. Today, not anymore. We sort of want to do more tests before we declare you as a glaucoma patient and put you through meds for life. You should be in good hands if your eye doctor is a Glaucoma specialist.
