i'll bump this thread because this is a very good topic for parents..

saving for the future is always practical.. and sabe nga ng ibang nag-respond, ibang iba na ang patakaran ng pre-need companies before.. kaya kung may mag-claim na sagot nila ang pang-tuition ng anak mo 100%, mukhang malabo yan.. wag maniwala..

i got college plans for my kids.. VUL, so my insurance na kasama.. my eldest is 6, my youngest is 4.. i got their plans when they were still 0 year olds.. i siezed the opportunity na mejo malakas pako para mag-work to prepare for their university schooling.. ang konti palang ang gastusin nila.. kahit hinde 100% na covered ang tuition for colleeg, at least may mababawas...

paid up na yung kay eldest, youngest naman one year to go nalang.. wwoohooo..

now, that i have alomost settled their college funds, i got them naman UITF.. pandagdag sa fund nila, if ever hinde nako nagtatrabaho by that time.. that is one thing to consider din by the parents.. ;)

of course, parents should have life insurance as well.. but that's another matter...

^ i super agree with you. :)

Hubby and I have insurance na din which also serves as our additional retirement funds pagdating ng araw.

Kumuha din kami ng insurance for our daughter, savings and investment sya in one.

I really think parehas dapat paghandaan ang education ng anak and retirement. Ayoko naman pag tanda ko e nakaasa ako sa anak ko. :)

^tomoh.. :)

besides... as we are all taught, a child's education is always the best investment..

so mommies and daddies, wag po tayong madala sa nangyari sa CAP or prudential.. ask, research, use google if you must.. there are so many options how we can prepare for our child's education..

if still you are not comfortable in getting an educational plan for your kid, by all means, invest nalang.. just please don't let your savings sleep in the bank.. :)

For us it's not the traditional Educational plan like CAP or something. We opened a mutual Fund account for our son. We keep it for his college. Kami naman ni Hubby it's VUL for our retirement Plan. It comes with an Insurance so whatever happens to us we are confident na makakapag aral parin yung anak namin because of the benefits he will receive. It's really a must that we have to be more practical now because College Tuition Fees are so high. Hindi na kaya na sa Bank ka nalang mag save for their future.

I was offered a plan before from RCBC.  It was really tempting because the monetary value after time would really cover my child's expenses in the future.  However, I remember before that I myself had an educational plan (CAP) that we weren't able to use completely because CAP wasn't able to provide anymore.  And so, I would invest in my child's education in some other way :)

investing for your child's education is still good... VULs, UTIFs, MFs, Bonds, o kung ano pang tawag, if it's still for your child's education, okay pa din... :)

I'd put little premium on face amount/sum assured para mas malaki ang allocation to buy units to build the fund. Depende kung san ka comfortable. If it's double purpose for you, at least my insurance coverage na din kasi just in case something happens to us, pwede mo dagdagan.  Net, the more you put  allocation sa face amount, the less amount will go to investments.  It would depend sayo kung san ang mas priority mo.

my baby is 2yr old ngayon. compute niya 16 years from now, yun na ang kailangan.

kasi today nasa more or less 180t/year sa La Salle. so that's around 1M na per kid.

1M + inflation rate ng 16years= around 4M.

wala pa diyan ang parking, pang gas, allowance, school activities etc etc.

nakakalula diba??! ngayon ko tuloy na realize sana mas nag aral ako mabuti nung college. hahaha

Hello, sis smm_0411. Sun Life advisor here. It depends on your child's age, your age, how many years you're planning to save up, your investment risk profile, and the school you're planning to send your child to.
Tama ang sabi ng ibang mommies dito. Milyones na ang halaga ng tuition sa time ng kids natin. If you remember your tuition fee nung college days, then compare with tuition fees today. Nag iincrease sya drastically.

I think you guys just place it in mutual funds so that aside from future education, it can also be for retirement, etc.  But be sure to diverse it and not just in a single policy.

Closing it under single policy AND only for education purpose is too restricting for me.  I'd rather put it in separate policies which is flexible in usage (can be for any types of future plans, not just education) in case something happens to the company. :)
