and yes, personally mas mahal dito magshopping compared sa pinas especially for clothes sa department stores. better buy branded na lang. hehe.

yes, sa jakarta yung branded items yung mabibili namin like clothes, bags and shoes. mas madami daw kasi yun dyan compared dito sa manila. bibili din kami ng batik at konting silver jewelry. my dad goes to indonesia yearly, ang gaganda ng silver at batik na inuuwi nya. kaso knowing him malamang galing duty free yun kasi ang ganda ng packaging.

^^ sis phurple, yep, working expat here in jakarta  city itself not so much to see. better if outside jakarta like bogor or bandung 

^^ sa solo kasi kami nagstay so temples around that city kami nagexplore besides prambanan and borubudur. take note lang na matraffic din sa yogyakarta. hehe. i have a travel entry about it.

anyway, about branded items here in jakarta, as far as i know ang maraming factory outlets are luggage brands (samsonite, delsey, american tourister, etc) and sport brands (nike, adidas, reebok). though not as super updated ang style pero mura.

oooh must buy items here as pasalubong are batik and semi-precious stones (turned into accessories)  i have yet to explore where to buy the cheapest dito sa jakarta but if you're going to yogyakarta, try dropping by solo kasi dun nanggagaling ang mga batik na binebenta sa jakarta and almost half the price

^^ ah so sa yogyakarta na kami bibili ng mga batik. kasi magaganda talaga yung batik nainuuwi ng dad namin. maganda ipangregalo yung batik sa mga mahilig magtravel. as for the accessories maganda din yan ibigay sa mga fashionista for christmas. punta kami dyan sa last quarter of 2012, maybe october. ok na yung di masyadong updated yung style, basta wag lang yung halatang lumang luma na at sobrang out of style na.

btw, magkano yung magnun dyan? kasi nakita ko sa wrapper ng magnum na nabili namin sa grocery na manufactured in indonesia at manufactured for the philippines, malaysia and singapore.

cutiepie, agree ako sa coffee! Puro coffee nga inuwi namin ng sister ko eh, pero sa Bali namin binili.

Yung cousin ko, nag-uwi ng civet coffee pero na-confiscate lahat sa airport nila. Taga Melbourne siya eh. Sayang nga di ako bumili, tipid mode na rin kasi.

On the price of goods there, napansin nga namin na mas mahal dun. We checked the prices of Forever21 in Grand Indo Mall, mas mahal ng P500-600 compared to our prices here.

Pero yung toiletries and beauty items mas mura dun, like the Nivea lotion we bought. Naka-buy 1, take 1. Lumalabas na P35 each. Pero kahit hindi naka-sale mas mura pa rin. That's because maraming items dun na Made in Indonesia. Yung Nivea natin dito galing Thailand. Dapat nag-hoard din kami ng beauty products, hehe!

^^magnum ice cream is around ~10,000 rupiah i think. so around 50 pesos. hindi mashado pinapansin ang magnum dito. it's just like a regular ice cream. madalas nga lang yung commercial sa tv. hehe.

for toiletries, you can buy brands like "lux", "camay" and "pepsodent", yan yung madalang or wala nasa pinas. tapos some groceries sell loreal hair coloring na around 200 - 300 pesos in conversion pero not wide yung selection ng colors.

wow madami pala dito sa GT ang familiar with Jakarta. lulubuslubusin ko na ang mga tanong ko ha. I booked a room malapit sa Bank Indonesia BRT. hindi ba mahirap sumakay ng BRT? sabi kasi ng mga puti, siksikan daw at puro hagdan dahil nakalagay sa gitna ng daan ang BRT.

Lulur or body scrub is also a good pasalubong. Yung friends ko dito sa manila, madalas ibabili sa amin noon. L'oreal products is also cheaper mga hair spa, protline,etc.

There's actually a hotel "almost" inside the airport itself, as in may connection (I think its name is Jakarta Airport Hotel, just check in tripadvisor.com). But I did not stay there. I preferred another hotel close to the airport, FM7 Resort Hotel. They have free shuttle service naman, around 15mins lang from the airport kung walang traffic. May indoor pool sila, jacuzzi, at sauna. Nice hotel, very comfortable bed and soft pillows. Great room.

to answer lang yung queries, about sa luggages, factory outlets sa malls in jakarta yung meron. like for elle, samsonite and delsey, may mga factory outlets sa artha gading mall in north jakarta.

if you're comparing megamall dito sa jakarta e i would say e kelapa gading mall, artha gading mall - both in north jakarta. pondok indah mall (old wing) and blok M mall in south jakarta. yun lang medyo familiar ako eh.

lahat ng grocery dito may mga tinda na made in indonesia. some have a section na pang pasalubong like krupuk, etc

and yes, safe naman kumain sa turo turo dito. pero shempre pili ka na din ng mukhang malinis. if you're not keen of seeing someone's hand fixing your meal edi ekis na. haha.

i am trying to look for direct flights from manila to jakarta. pal and cebu pacific lang ba yung may direct flights? mapapaaga pala punta namin ng indonesia. we're going there this september as a family. naghahanap ako ng mura na fare kasi mga 7-9days kami sa indonesia kasi may event kami na pupuntahan. sana may makuha pa akong sale tickets from pal. as much as possible iniiwasan namin sumakay ng cebu pacific.

^sis, another option is Jetstar. nagpro-promo fare din sila, pero may stopover sa SG, wala yata direct flight. matanong ko lang please, bakit ninyo iniiwasan ang cebu pacific? hehe
