my 3 months old also has eczema :( her pedia here in Australia just told us to keep moisturizing pero wala naman pinrescribe na gamot except IF there's a bad flare up, apply sigmacort on the area 2x a day for a week... there was a time na nainfect din yun eczema ni baby behind her left ear. Sabi lagyan ng bactroban and steroids 2x a day for 7 days... um-okay but after a week, hala infected na naman! It was crusty and yellowish... so we went back to her pedia... this time sabi oral antibiotics na kami. Right now, ok na yun skin nya as in hindi na infected BUT she's still red sa mga folds folds nya and her trunk?? OMG patch patch ng red parang MAP!! My poor baby!

we are using Alpha Keri Bath Oil sa bath nya and we only bathe her every 3 days... also moisturizing her HEAPS as in 4x a day tapos super thick ointment na gamit namin. But wala pa rin...

sino ba dapat puntahan? Pediatrician? Allergologist? Dermatologist? Kasi I backread the thread and some mentioned yun eczema ng babies nila nacontrol naman ng prescribed meds ng pedia nila...

I still want to go to an Allergologist though to see what triggers her flare ups... but I also wanna see either a Pedia or Derma... sino ba ang dapat? And sino ang magaling maghandle ng eczema on babies?

We went to an adult allergologist at St. Luke's QC and she requested for allergen sensitivity tests for my more than 2-yr old son. We have to pay 12K for it and it will take 30mins to 1 hr daw. Good thing i saw this thread. Will visit a pedia allergologist first.

Hi everyone. Would like to ask for referral sana for pedia allergologist in Fe Del Mundo Hospital. We used to go to Dr. Sumpaico of PCMC but I'm looking into trying another doctor.

Following this thread na din. My 27 month old baby girl has atopic dermatitis. My cousin who's a pedia-allergologist used to check on her and nung na-assign naman siya sa province, she referred us to her colleague and napagaling naman yung ilang months naming pinagdusahang flare-ups ni baby. Thanks to cetaphil restoraderm at mga antibiotics. Malayo na kami sa QC (where we used to bring her sa referred allergologist ni cousin) kaya I decided na we'll check with Dr. De Vera na din. We would also like to have her skin tested baka may allergy rin. Sana may inputs na on how much her pf is. I'm just waiting to be fully recovered  para madala si lo kasi kapapanganak ko lang din.

I just read several articles regarding singulair montelukast. Studies sa Us show its side effects is deppresion, anxiety, irtitability and tantrums. Almost 90% daw ng patients have reports of this. Hindi ko lang alam if its just the brand. or lahat ng Montelukast.

^ Would you mind sharing the articles/studies which states that 90% of patients on Montelukast suffer from behavioral issues? In the ABC Australia news report, what was stated was they received 90 reports out of thousands who take the medication.
Anyway, this is an old issue on Montelukast. The behavioral issues did not come out during the safety efficacy trials of the drug prior to distribution. It was only reported post marketing on 2007- 2008 and as of 2015, as far as I know, there have been no clinical trials done to prove the claim. Puro testimonials lang. Iba kasi ang testimonials sa clinical trials.
Sa testimonials, what came out was that behavioral issues such as anxiety, aggression and night terrors came out immediately after starting the drug and would stop when the drug was discontinued. So if it was the medication that caused the child's behavioral problems, the behavioral problems would stop upon cessation of the medication. If it didn't stop, then there must be something else causing the behavioral problems.
So far, what the US FDA has done is to include this in the label list of rare side effects. There have been no moves to ban or withdraw the drug from the market.
When in doubt, it would be best to talk to the primary care physician so that he or she can address the concerns.

I found the article on facebook. I can't seem to find it anymore. I got so frantic upon reading it and I have been obsessed to finding out the truth behind all these. They also had to change the side effects on the label because of neuro-physciatric events and reports. If I understood it correctly a clnical study has already been done. I am just sharing an  article http://www.mindlessmommy.com/2009/06/fda-acknowledges-neuropsychiatric-side-effects-of-singulair/ . I also highly encourage moms hee to research on this .My son has stopped taking this for a month now. He has no signs of anxiety and he has not been agitated anymore. Just one happy kid.  I am currently reading the Fda briefing document meeting  which is a 204 page pdf to fully understand the matter.

If it was the ABC Australia news article that has been going around in FB that you saw, well, as mentioned in my other post, the news article stated 90 reports, not 90%.
There was a clinical review done by the American Academy of Pediatrics, but no clinical trials made. A clinical review means they reviewed all the adverse reactions attributed to montelukast/singulair and checked if there was indeed the drug that caused it or if there was something else. For an adverse reaction to be attributed to the drug, there should be a good temporal relationship kasi. A clinical trial, on the other hand, would require getting subjects/patients, giving them the drug and checking if they would exhibit the neuropsychiatric symptoms mentioned.
As a result of the clinical review, the US FDA did change the labeling of the side effects as early as 2009 and listed it under "rare" side effects as I mentioned in my earlier post. There is no attempt to hide this side effect from the public.
All medications, whether synthetic or herbal have side effects. As a side effect, it means that you cannot tell which patient would manifest with the side effects. Clinicians are advised to stop the medication if their patients manifest with the said side effects. That is why it is important to follow up with your doctors once treatment is initiated, not only to assess response to the medication but also to check for side effects or adverse reactions.
Clinicians also have to gauge need vs risk. For example, there are studies now linking the use of paracetamol in pregnancy to the same behavioral issues (aggression, hyperactivity, anxiety) in kids. So what do we do? Do we not give paracetamol to a febrile pregnant patient? What if the fever progresses and harms the pregnancy?
Another example, there were studies that linked folic acid use in pregnancy to development of asthma in kids. So again, are we going to stop giving folic acid to pregnant women because there is a possible risk of asthma? Folic acid deficiency in pregnancy is linked to neural tube defects and folic acid is therefore, vital, to a healthy pregnancy.
I fully agree that patient education is very important and all parents should really be aware of possible adverse reactions. But, with everything that is coming out in the internet nowadays, we should be more discerning of the articles that we read. Better to read from reputable websites like the cdc, us fda, acip, aap, etc. as well as to discuss these concerns with your primary care providers. Your doctors are there to educate and enlighten.

Both my daughters have eczema. We've been to a number of pediatric allergist and derma here and abroad already. My older daughter is better but my bunso has flare ups every now and then. She's been taking antihistamines for over a year and antibiotics every time may infection. I have read a certain blog about eczema and tried to apply something I learned and that is boosting my daughter's immune system to naturally fight off infection if there is any. I stopped using antihistamines and just continued with her bath routines, emollients and cream, plus iwas sa mga food na allergic sya, same with dust and heat. So far so good, she is getting better and better each day.

Just wanted to get your views on air purifiers/ humidifiers/dehumidifiers/ essential oils..effective po ba talaga tong mga to? TIA!

And yung ubo nya laging ma-plema noon. The last doc told us na yung mga ininum nyang gamot from previous doctor eh pang Broncho. From simple allergies, lumala at naging Pneumonia. After gamutan maintenance na nya yung Montelukast, then nag Levocetirizine din sya.

Hi sis, sorry I forgot to add pla. Kaya nakaka-confuse din. I remember kasi sa tagal ng pag ubo nya (allergy) naka twice kami mag pa Xray, the first one was negative. We assume na Primary Complex or Primary TB na nagrecur. Pero negative naman ang result. Then he took meds na pang Broncho. Then months after, nagpa xray ulit then nakita Pneumonia sa left lung nya.
