What to Expect in a Pedia-allergologist visit?

nagkaroon ng rashes si baby like ant bite pero nawawala after an hour tapos magkakaroon na naman sya nun sa ibang part ng body nya tapos mawawala na naman after an hour ulit tapos magkakaroon na naman.  simula pa ito nung saturday.  ano kaya ito?

thanks po doc.  allergy daw po sa food pero wala naman akong binago sa food nya.  zyrtec po prescribed ni pedia kay baby.  after mapainom ko ng zyrtec si baby, napansin ko po ngayon nawala na red bumps nya.

Anong food daw ang cause? If food allergy, dapat within minutes to 4 hours from ingesting the suspected food, may lalabas ng itch and rashes. Dapat din consistent na every time na kakainin yung food, kahit tikim lang (since amount has nothing to do with food allergy), may lalabas pa rin na rashes.
Also, you need prior exposure to the food (sensitization phase) before rashes appear. Hindi lalabas ang allergy sa first try pa lang since wala pang antibodies na nagagawa ang immune system against the food.

doc, wala talaga po ako mapin-point kung anong food.  kasi ang kinain lang naman nya po that time ay french fries.  snack time po kasi yun.  pero dati na po sya kumakain ng french fries, no rashes at all.  sabi ni pedia food or insect bite daw po.  pero wala din po akong makitang insect bite sa body ni baby or natabunan na siguro ng rashes kaya di ko lang makita.  pero mas hinala po ni pedia sa food daw po.  pero impossible po talaga na sa french fries kasi kain na sya ng kain nun kahit noon pa.

What was the exact diagnosis? Did your pedia say if it is urticarial rash? Kasi if it is urticaria, then infection is the number one cause. Second lang ang food.
Anyway, since there is suspicion of food allergy, then I suggest that you bring her to an allergologist to confirm the presence of food allergy.

What's the difference between the new skin test na puro ang gamit ay plastic panel and the traditional way of skin test?  Yung plastic panels kasi super mahal ang mga nainquire ko around 12-15k yung traditional way 5-6k lang.

Difference on price of skin testing would lie on source of materials (pricier if they get everything from the US) and type of materials used.

hello pa-join po.... just wanna ask coz my son who is almost 2 years old has skin rashes.  They look like bungang araw butlig butlig and they started sometime May.  Tumubo po sya una sa arms particularly above elbow and sa thigh front side yung taas ng tuhod and little sa face, so doon lang na spot on the other side ng mga arms and thigh nya wala naman.   When I consulted her pedia sabi nya atopic dermatitis daw, she prescribed cetaphil as soap then physiogel as lotion.  For several months nawawala bumabalik yung rashes tried using aveeno soap and lotion and nivea, until this december na parang dumami same area pa din.  I consulted the derma about the condition ang sabi atopic nga daw parang skin asthma, she prescribed cetaphil restoraderm, atopiclair cream and desowen (has a little steriods daw).  I used them all sa anak ko but it seems that there were no improvements.  So I did some readings here sa net, got an article about the use of vco sa skin nga baby then tried it... medyo nag pacify yung rash pero anjan pa rin.  So I decided to consult a pedia -allergo here on our area, she told me na hindi daw atopic dermatitis yung sa skin ng anak ko but miliaria.  May sinabi syang miliaria crystallina, so walang pinagbawal na food, continue yung cetaphil restoraderm the use of atopiclair lotion.  Im really hoping na magiging ok na soon yung baby ko... Hope you could also help me get some insights about this skin disease kasi as I understand through my reasearch miliaria is a form of sweat rash, kaya cant understand bakit doon sya tumutubo sa expose areas.

The rash of Atopic dermatitis or AD/skin asthma is different from the rash of miliara crystallina. In atopic dermatitis (AD), the rash consists of reddish rough patches usually involving the flexural areas in children (behind the elbow and knees), not really butlig butlig. Ang butlig butlig that is associated with atopic dermatitis is chicken skin or keratosis pilaris. Usually elbows, arms and knees and any part of the body that is exposed to friction ang areas involved with chicken skin. Ang chicken skin is one of the minor criteria of AD. Magkaiba rin ang rash ng chicken skin sa miliara.
It is possible that your son was not able to fulfill the criteria needed to diagnose atopic dermatitis kaya hindi yun ang diagnosis ng allergologist. What was the exact diagnosis given by the derma? Wondering lang why magkaiba ang diagnosis ng 2 specialists.

Thanks po doc lelet... ang sabi po ng dermatologist atopic dermatitis but allergo said its kind of miliaria.  Medyo wala nga improvement sa lahat ng treatment.  Right now we are using restoraderm and atopiclair  but then parang dumami.  I'll try to find time to see you Doc para makita mo din actual just for second opinion.  I tried to stop my son eating chicken and egg yet parang walang effect.  And lately po if I am applying atopiclair right after nya magpunas or maligo bigla na lang nagkaka rashes... yung parang allergy rash kaya sobrang worried na ako sa balat nya before it was just small area ngayong parang buong arms na nya.

@doc leletmd:  sis, nag consult kasi kami sa pedia derma sa TMC kay Dr. Carlos Paguio.

Ava has a keloid sa legs nya due to nail scratch, mga 2 months na yun.  nag consult kami sa pedia nya sa Polymedic and she advised us to use Contractubex the papaopera daw if di umepekto ang Ointment, so ako naman di satisfied kay pedia kaya ng consult ako sa pedia derma sa TMC, ayun ganun din sinabi nya, after ng Contractubex, Dermatrix naman daw at samahan ng Dermavate tapos i wrap sa cling wrap every night para kumapit ang ointment, may improvement naman un scar pero keloid pa din sya.

sis pano ba yun?  gusto ko talaga mawala ang keloid, she is only 4.5 yrs old and di pa nya kaya yung steroid injection sabi kasi ni Dr. Paguio yun, effective talaga yun, pero masakit daw talaga.

What to do sis?! please help!

Try to lightly apply the moisturizers on the area. No pressure or rubbing motions dapat kasi if he has dermographism, talagang dadami ang rashes right after rubbing.

I suggest you follow the derma's suggestions since they are the ones most knowledgeable about scar removal. Really sorry that I can't offer much help regarding this (I can understand your concern regarding the keloidal scar). Scars are not really part of the scope of allergic diseases that allergologists handle so best to go to a trusted dermatologist regarding this. Is your derma a pedia derma? If not, try looking for one since pedia dermatologists have better training in handling pediatric dermatologic concerns.

Yup Doc Lelet Im applying moisturizer to the areas.  And just a good news right now tuyo na ang mga rashes sana wala nang tumubo bago.  One question pala Doc baket sa likod nya sometimes mamumula then after a day parang sunburn na then mag pepeel then  back to normal again. Is this also a skin disease or dryness?

^ It can still be part of the ongoing skin problem since most of the time, kapag pagaling na, it leads to dryness of the lesion (kaya mas makati) saka finally mawawala. I suggest you bring him to the allergologist who diagnosed the miliara para makita ang response sa moisturizers.

Hi mga sis need help sana.. During my son's 2nd month we went to a pedia derma & the doctor said he has eczema. Ngayon naman he has this persistent cough, sneezing & watery eyes. Madalas din sya mag-scratch ng eyes/face.. Should i see an allergologist? Clear naman daw lungs nya sabi ng new pedia nya kaya tinuloy namin penta vaccine. Im worried. Sino marecommend nyo na allerhologist na breast feeding advocate sa TMC or marikina? Thanks!
