What to Expect in a Pedia-allergologist visit?

As I said in my earlier post, I suggest you follow what the allergologist told you to do so if 6 weeks ang sabi niya na duration na pagbigay ng Xyzal, then I suggest you continue it for 6 weeks regardless of whether or not nawala na ang rashes ng anak mo. If you stop treatment kung kailan pa lang siya nagrerespond, then there is a possibility that the symptoms would just come back.
When are you due for follow up? Usually kasi may follow up to assess response to treatment.

hi doc let,  ask ko lang po kasi yesterday i bring my daughter sa pedia and ang findings nya ay may athopic dermatitis daw, she gave my daughter med to take for 5days,, then pag nothing change daw ay ireffer nya na ang daughter ko sa PEDIATRIC ALLERGOLOGIST in makati med... ask ko lang if around 25k po ba ang need ko iprepare? kasi madaming series of test daw,, wala kasi idea regarding that,, so very thankful ako if u can help me=) or baka may marerecommend po kyong PED ALLER

thanks doc..ok lang ba itanong sa inyo kung meron kayo alam na allergologist at saan clinic preferably accredited ng Philcare or Intellicare?

It would be best to ask the pedia allergologist himself/herself regarding the costs of the tests needed because it would vary according to the doctor. It would depend kasi on the assessment of the allergologist. I am sure na hindi ka naman bibiglain regarding the tests. Wag matakot pumunta sa doctor because of the perceived gastos.

It would be best to call Philcare or Intellicare and ask them regarding their accredited allergologists so that they can refer you to the nearest Allergologist to you. Sorry no idea as to HMO affiliations.

doc letlet so far poh after almost 2 weeks na pag take nang levocetrizine at after niya naubos ang antibiotic nang anak ko, nawala na pamamantal niya...i hope tuloy tuloy na poh pag galing niya..doc letlet tanong ko lang poh sana nakalimutan ko poh kasi eh tanong sa pedia ko..since sabi nang pedia hindi sa milk ang cause nang rashes pwede ko poh ba siyang salitan ipadede ang grow at gain plus since both from abbott.gain plus advance poh siya ngayon kaya lang medyo di na kaya nang bulsa..but i am really satisfied with gain doc kaya gusto ko may gain pa rin...im planning 2 bottles of grow and the rest gain plus in a day...pwede kaya yun doc?tnx poh doc letlet

Tests would depend on the allergic disease being considered. Usually history and physical examination sa 1st visit and tests would be ordered or performed depending on the diagnosis.
Example, if diagnosis is Urticaria, then pwedeng magpacheck ng CBC, urinalysis, stool exam and/or chest x-ray, hepatitis screening, etc. to check for infection causing the urticaria. Usually these basic lab tests would be covered by the health cards.
If you are referring to skin prick testing for food and aero/inhalant allergens, this test is usually not covered by the health cards.
Don't be afraid to consult an allergologist just because of the perceived cost of the diagnostic procedures. I am sure hindi ka naman bibiglain ng doctor. May preparation din kasi ang pag-skin test. I suggest you back read for further information.

doc let ask lang poh ulit ako kasi natapos na namin ang 6 weeks na pag inom nang levocetrizine..ayun bumalik ang pamamantal nang anak ko...advised ni doc last time pag ganito ibalik siya for test...ano kaya ang mga test yun doc? baka poh kasi mahal doc gusto ko lang poh mag ka idea...nalilito nga ako ei kasi nong 2 days nalang at matatapos na ang levo ayun biglang parang mag kaka flu ang anak ko...naisipan ko tuloy baka eto nanaman reaction nang immune system  niya kaya namantal ulit gaya nang sabi nang allergologist namin.wait ko poh reply ninyo doc salamat

If it is urticaria, then we usually check for infection (ask for basic labs such as CBC, urinalysis, stool exam, chest x-ray, hepa screening, etc. ), ask for food or symptom diary, total IgE levels, or do skin prick testing when necessary.
I suggest you bring your child back to her allergologist for follow up kasi your doctor is the best person to decide what tests are necessary. It depends kasi on the history and physical examination of the child/patient. There's no such thing as "de-kahon" na tests.
As I said in my earlier post, wag matakot bumalik sa doctor just because of the perceived cost of the possible tests. I am sure the doctor will give you enough time to do the tests and will only order tests that are necessary.

Contrary to popular belief, infection is the most common cause for urticaria in kids so it is possible na naghyhyper - react ang immune system niya every time she has an infection. Baka kulang pa ang 1st 6 weeks ng levocetirizine niya kaya kailangan pa ng additional 6 weeks. Suugestion ko na bago ka mag-stop ng levocetirizine next time, pa-follow up mo muna siya sa pedia allergo mo para ma-assess ng doctor if pwede na magstop or there is a need to continue the medication.

Did your allergologist suggest changing the toothpaste brand? Iba kasi ang manifestation ng toothpaste allergy sa urticaria. Contact dermatitis kasi ang manifestation ng toothpaste allergy. Also, allergy to toothpaste is very rare.
Anyway, for those with toothpaste allergy, I usually recommend sensodyne or pepsodent baking soda based toothpaste.
I suggest you ask your allergologist if there is a need to change toothpaste brands and what her specific recommendations are.
