What to Expect in a Pedia-allergologist visit?

What was the diagnosis given by the allergologist? What type of inhaler was prescribed? How long was it used? Were you able to follow up with the allergologist para na-assess yung response niya to the meds?
From your post, it is definitely a seasonal type of allergy since summer lang lumalabas ang symptoms niya. So kailangan to assess if the cough is due to asthma or allergic rhinitis. Kailangan din to assess if it is weather related or pollen related...

hi doc lelet! sana hindi OT, i'd like to ask lang po kasi my son (approaching 5 mos) has a ring like red anus. he's taking enfalac a+ since birth. malakas naman po siya dumedede pero often times naglulungad siya after milk intake and yun nga po hindi nawawala yung pamumula ng anus siya. is this a sign of food allergy? do i have to bring him na sa pedia-allergologist? yung pedia niya kasi always says na baka dermatitis lang pero kahit nagddiaper rash ointment hindi naman po nawawala.

Yes, the anal ring can be a sign of food allergy. Usually isa yan sa hinahanap sa mga babies na may possible cow's milk allergy.
Aside from the anal ring, meron pa bang diaper dermatitis (rash along the inguinal and genital regions)? Kasi to distinguish if due to food allergy ito, usually hindi affected ang inguinal and genital areas. Only the anal ring is reddish.
I suggest you ask your pedia if she can refer you to a pedia allergologist for further evaluation.

hi doc lelet! thank you for your response. wala pong diaper dermatitis along the inguinal and genital regions. doon lang po talaga sa anal area. we have noticed that since 3 months siya kaya i've been researching if ano nga yung cause noon and found out nga na baka it is a sign of cow's milk allergy. nabanggit ko na rin po yun sa pedia niya but he always answer us diaper dermatitis nga lang daw po iyun.

sige po will ask him and if ever walang development, will find na lang a pedia allergologist to have him checked.

Hi, may inasknwhen its appropriate to visit a pedia allergologist pls? My son has had rashes since he was 3weeks old & it hasnt really gone away. His pedia prescribed elica cream during his first month check up but said to use it onlyfor 3 days medyo nawala sya but the rashes came back again esp sa face nua. His skin has rough patches and medyo nagbabalat na parang scaly, he also has this sa batok so i dont know if its heat rash or skin asthma or allergy to what im eating since he's exclusively breastfed.

Would really appreciate any feedback from you ladies.

^ As soon as an allergy is suspected or diagnosed, the patient can already be referred to a pedia allergologist. However, kadalasan delayed ang referral or ang consult kasi maraming hindi aware na may doctors specializing in allergy.
What was the diagnosis of your pedia? Aside from skin rashes, does he have any intestinal problems like colic, difficulty passing gas, painful bowel movements, etc. ?

If it's diaper dermatitis, dapat other genital parts are affected and it should go away with frequent changing of the diaper, use of cloth diapers, or treatment with diaper creams.

^dra leletmd: When we went for my son's 1st month check up walang sinabi yung pedia. I was the one who brought it up pa na baka may baby exzema or skin asthma ang son ko.

Sabi nya we wont know for sure until the 4th month. She said its normal lang daw na may rashes and baby acne since there's extra hormones comin from the mom from the gestation. She said nothing else na nor did she recommend an allerologist.

We're coming back for his 2nd month check up next week and I'll ask again... kasi although in fairness naman nag-improve na yung rashes from before. he still has some patches nga chaka there are areas esp sa chin & nape na may round spots na iba yung color from his skin tone, parang mas maputi... di ko tuloy alam if fungal infection na sya or what... HAAAAAYYYY!

Do you have any feedback dra or any comments on my son's case based on what I've shared?

hi doc lelet. we had him checked again nung sat ng pedia niya, scheduled vaccine niya kasi. sabi niya talaga wala daw po iyon. dermatitis lang. ang worry ko kasi talaga hindi nawawala eh. sabi niya baka daw kapag nagpoopoo at sensitive ang part na yun kaya nagganun. we were given hydrocortisone kapag lumala.

actually, i am already determined to have him checked by a pedia-allergologist. meron po ba kayo doc marerecommed within marikina area? salamat po doc!

hi! sa sat plan ko dalhin yung anak ko sa allergologist. may nagpatingin na ba dito kay dra. perez sa megaclinic sa megamall? okay po siya?

dun kami papacheck kai dun pwede yung HMO ng anak ko. tingin namin ng pedia ay allergy talaga yung ubo/sipon niya. nangyayari talaga yun pag patulog na siya at bagong gising, minsan sa madaling araw. pag pina check up ko siya sa pedia dahil parang iba ang ubo niya, clear naman daw. so sabi ng pedia sa allergy daw talaga yun.

What specific areas of the face are affected? If it is skin asthma or atopic dermatitis, the forehead, cheeks and chin are involved. The nasal area is generally spared of any rashes since there are numerous sebaceous glands in the area.
Also, is there any evidence of itch? Does your baby scratch the areas involved? Nauuna ba ang itch before the appearance of the rash? Any family history of allergies?

Does your baby have any other symptoms aside from the anal ring? Kasi if walang ibang symptoms, then it is possible that it may really just be diaper dermatitis.
Example of other relevant symptoms: itchiness and facial rashes as I described above, bloating, bowel movement problems, etc. Since anal ring erythema siya, usually may accompanying intestinal symtoms (loud passage of gas, colic, difficulty in BM, etc. ) kapag allergy ang cause.
If from Marikina, you can try Dr. Frances Tan of Marikina Valley Medical Center. Also Dr. Kaye Salvador - Tayag. Both are also from UP, trained in UP and very good doctors.

doclelet: actually po from those you listed i noticed that yes, very loud ang gas passage niya, colicky rin po, though wala po siyang facial rashes and itchiness though madalas po siya magkamot ng ulo (i am not sure if this is related to that, nalalagas po tuloy ang buhok niya). No problem naman po sa bowel movement pero there are times na constipated pero never naman po nagdiarrhea. Ang sabi po kasi ng pedia niya basta hindi nagddiarrhea walang allergy. Pero I will try to visit Dr. Tan na rin po. I remembered she's my niece doctor. Doon rin po ang pedia ni baby sa marikina valley. kaya okay lang po magvisit kami sa kanya. salamat po doc!

If it doesn't improve in a few weeks, it would be best to bring him to an allergologist to check if it is indeed skin asthma or atopic dermatitis.

Allergic intestinal problems may range from either constipation or diarrhea, and may manifest as colic, etc.
Dr. Tan is an excellent doctor.

pasali po!. may son was diagnosed with an allergic rhinitis last april 21 untill now hindi pa din nawawala yung ubo at sipon niya barado pa din yung ilong, naka antibiotic na kami nka 60 ml ng allerkid and now he is taking loraped.. now nag cocomplain siya na masakit daw tainga niya. hindi ko alam kung saan ako unang pumunta sa EENT pa or sa pedia-pulmo..ayaw kong bumalik sa pedia niya kasi yung mga neresita niyang mga gamot is hindi napagaling anak ko.sabi niya bibigyan niya ng maintenance med yung anak ko w/c is montelukast peru nag out of town siya ngayon.. if pedia-allergo hindi ko alam if meron dito sa cagayan de oro. pls enlighten me mga sis kng sinu una ko pupuntahan. or pwede isa lang yung pupuntahan ko. anyway occasional lang yung cough niya atsaka once lang siya nag complain na masakit tainga niya. peru naawa ako sa kanya tuwing humihiga kasi barado ilong atsaka hirap siyang huminga. nilagnat siya the other day peru kahapon wala na. help po!
