root cannal vs tooth extraction

Hi mga sis! Any good dentist you all can recommend? I had root canal done in the States and before I left for Germany, my dentist told me I needed crown kasi daw malapit ng mag crack. My tooth has been bothering me lately and when I went to get my prophylaxis done last week, dentist said its broken. I have a plan of going home in Aug and I don't know any good dentist around the metro. Dental office here can't see me cause they have high volume of appointments for the next few months. TIA!

Ask ko lang kung luluwag pa rin ba yung ngipin kahit ang bungi eh sa 3rd molar?

Sis hindi na,kasi 3rd molar yun which is wala ng anatomical function,recommended talaga na tanggalin ang third molar especially if impacted

#3 tooth will be checked up by an endo next week. Currently may crown sya pero sumakit  kaya kelangan tignan.

 I'm scared about RCT. I have low tolerance for pain  and I gag a lot when a dentist works on my teeth.

My Q s-  how many ba usually roots ng #3? And how many visits normally to RCT this?

Normally one root lang cia, the challenge is the root is long but with a good dentist, one seating will be enough

^ hi skylar-ddm! I'm currently in the US. I will have my endo appt this week. Sana ok prognosis and sana di urgent. I mean, i prefer sana to have the RCT (if indeed necessary) done in Manila. Pero January pa Kasi uwi ko... Iba Kasi care ng pinoy doctors. Plus I want a second opinion din sana.

^ ah, the reason i asked is because tooth #3 in the US usually refers to your upper right first molar..  Iba kase ang nomenclature or numbering ng tooth sa US and here in the Philippines.  In the US, the numbering is #1-32,  counting starts from the right upper third molar #1, going to the upper left third molar #16, then down to left third molar #17, going to the right to the right third molar #32.

  So anyway, to answer your question, that tooth may have 3-4 canals and may require 2-4 visits depending on the case.

Change of plans. Won't be coming home to get my tooth fixed. I'm seeing a German dentist and he's leaning towards permanent filling instead of crown and it will all depend on the Xray i had which he wanted to see.

Sis twelve5, don't be scared they will give you local anesthesia naman When I had mine done back in the states I only took a day off and was back to work the next day. Overtime though mine cracked so that's my dilemma right now cause it gives me headache when it hurts.

^ hi jeune, I hope your prognosis is good.

I'm scheduled for RCT at the end of the month. The endodontist said my tooth has nerve damage. I was hoping I can get it done when I come home in Manila early next year. But then I'm afraid that it might hurt again and i cant have it fixed pronto. Getting a sked with the dentist during the last quarter of the year is always not easy. It's the time of the year kasi that people maximize their insurance benefits. 

The endo pa got a little irked with me ata kasi I was asking a lot of questions. (Pasensya na po, first time eh.) Nasabihan tuloy ako ng I've been doing this for 20 years. Hehe

If I go to another doctor naman, outside my insurance, the charge is $1,600+ just for the RCT alone. 

So wish me luck nalang.

I don't even remember why my dentist recommended to have root canal but I did it anyway You will be ok, promise! Better have it done now and not worry about it hurting.

Minsan naman kasi hindi bihasa mag-root canal yung dentist. Sadly, merong mga ganyan. May naencounter pa nga ako, sabi sa kanya ng dentist hindi na daw nag-ru-root canal ng bagang (molar)--bunot na daw agad. Yun pala, hindi "marunong" magroot canal ng molar. E malamang, ayaw nung dentist na mapunta sa iba yung patient so ininsist na lang na bunutin. 

hi sis! ask ko lang may marecommend ka ba na magaling na dentist sa may marikina or near marikina? kasi kwento ng dad ko sumasakit daw ngipin nya tapos pumunta sya sa malapit lang na dentist sa min tapos ang advise sa kanya bunutin 7 ngipin nya dahil sira na daw.  sabi ko magpa 2nd opinion sya sa iba. ang dati kong dentist si Dr. ibanez sa may anonas nung ngpa braces ako nung bata pa ako.  Magaling sya kaso namatay na sya.  thanks

@twelve5: kaya mo yan sis I had my RCT done early last year and kabado rin ako, as in! pero di naman pala masakit. I'm glad i made the right decision that time.

This Friday na appointment ko. Waaah!  I'm trying my best not to think about it by keeping myself busy... Pero naiisip ko pa rin. 

I will survive this! Kung kaya nyo, dapat kaya ko rin.

i've backread pero parang wala na kong nabasa regarding sa rates ng RC. the rates posted were way back 2010 pa. how much na kaya ngayon? the reason i asked kasi my dentist recommended RC for me. yung babang molar ko kasi dating may pasta tapos natanggal na and naputol. so RC then crown daw. 21k daw magagastos ko all in all...RC, meds, xray, crown..package na kasi 7k/root ang charge nya so discounted na daw yan. medyo namamahalan ako..ganun ba talaga price? sabi nung assistant nya i could be assured naman daw kasi na magaling yung dentista ko and no pain after.

^Sa dentist ko 2.5k per canal sya. Di ko alam kung magaling sya mag-RCT kasi baka sa pag-uwi ko pa lang sa November ako magpa-consult. Yung rate nya is for RCT alone, no med or xray.

After ba talaga magpa-RCT, crown na ang next?

Reporting back for duty.

I'm done with my RCT. My #3 has 3 canals and the endo worked on me for an hour. No pain naman. So far. Hehe... I took ibuprofen before I left the clinic because I felt the anesthesia was beginning to wear off na. I was advised not to chew on my right side until Tuesday.

I paid almost $500, after insurance. Grabe mahal talaga ng medical sa US. Tsk. Sana fist and last ko ito. Hehe... Otherwise I'll wait until I'm home in Manila to get it done.

After 10 days I will be back for fitting for a new crown. And new gastos. Nyek... $500 again, after insurance.


Thank you mga sis sa help nyo. Maski paano nabawasan yung kaba ko. Iba talaga pag may support group like GT! 

Btw the endo was mabait naman pala. He is a joker pala. Di lang halata nung first date namin. Hehe

Uy buti tapos na RCT mo sis! See it wasn't that bad!    Tinanong ko yung endo ko about sa crown, di nya sinuggest kasi daw ok naman kung permanent filling ang ilagay nya. I asked him how long it will last, years daw so we'll see.

Baka naman yung endo mo sis may pms nung first meeting nyo haha!
