naiinis ako, wala pa atang 1 year ng iroot canal yung molar ko eh may crack na agad. this is my 2nd rct.   yung 1st rct ko sa kabilang side eh tuluyang nagcrack kaya pinabunot ko na.

nakakadisappoint lang ang rct. ito nga di na ko kumakain ng matitigas na food. at most of the times, i chew on the opposite side para di masyado maapektuhan yung side na may rct. hay, this is just waiting to fully crack, then eventually bunot.

-NEED LINISIN muna YUNG CANAL MO OR ELSE.. YUN ANG MAG CAUSE MANGAMOY MOUTH MO or mag karoon ng infection.

but how true is it na nakakabaho daw ng hininga ang crown? and one needs a maintenance cleanup for that, like every year daw.  yet,the worst thing that can happen sa crown is yung nangingitim na gums. parang kay regine v! aww, ayoko nun parang bangkay. hehe

nasa hygiene if mag kakaamoy yung mga naka jacket or bridge. dapat mag floss regularly pa din or use waterpik if merong budget to buy one and regular check-up sa dentist.

about sa gums na nangingitim, use high quality alloy like captek or tilite ng hindi magitim mga gums.

sis, khit matibay yung pasta, all rct ( root canal treated tooth) dapat lagyan ng crown. kasi, nagiging weak na yung ipin dahil its already dead. wala ng blood, minerals na dumadaloy. kaya minsan na chachambahan yung ipin na pag kagat nag crack talaga.

If I may clarify, NOT ALL root canal-treated teeth requires a crown. Madaming choices actually at depende sa situation. Here are some options & scenarios for indication para mas maintindihan ng mga patients & those who are interested na magpa-root canal treatment:

    1. Pasta or fillings
We use this pag yung butas ng ngipin e yun lang pinagpasukan ng mga gamit pang-root canal ang existing cavity after the treatment. We call that cavity the "access opening." Other than that, wala dapat sira or pasta sa gilid, harap or any surface other than the access opening.

    2. Onlays
In a way parang pasta rin ito but more extensive. Merong metal nito at porcelain which is parehong ginagawa sa laboratory. These are indicated in cases where aside from the access opening e may iba pang sira or pasta yung ngipin na na-RCT pero yung natitirang natural tooth part (yung part ng ngipin na hindi pasta at walang sira) is big enough not to need a crown. In comparison with crowns, mas mura ang onlay. i.e. metal onlays are cheaper than all metal crowns & PFMs. But an all porcelain onlay is more expensive than a PFM crown but cheaper than an all porcelain crown.

    3. Crowns
This is a common misconception that ALL TEETH which received RCT needs to be crowned. We only indicate crowns on teeth na (but not limited to):
    a. extensive na ang sira
    b. may mga existing pasta aside from the access opening part
    c. konti lang yung sira/pasta + the access opening pero nag-iisa na lang siyang bagang on that part
    d. patient has bruxism

Minsan makakarinig kayo na kailangan ng post yung tooth after ma-RCT. yes there are cases like that. But the dentist must be good in deciding whether kailangan talaga ng post yung case at hindi nag-susuggest ng kung ano para lang perahan ang pasyente.

but how true is it na nakakabaho daw ng hininga ang crown? and one needs a maintenance cleanup for that, like every year daw.  yet,the worst thing that can happen sa crown is yung nangingitim na gums. parang kay regine v! aww, ayoko nun parang bangkay. hehe

It's not the placement of crown per se ang nakakabaho. Maaring under the crown e may pumapasok na pagkain or worse bulok na pala yung ipin under the crown.

Re: "maintenance cleanup" of the crown---I don't know what the dentist meant by saying that but cleaning of the crown is nothing special. You take care of it as if you're taking care of natural teeth. The dentist should not charge you extra for "specialized cleaning" of crown --there's no such thing as that. Mag-iiba lang ang way ng pag-clean if you have a bridge (crowns na magkakatabi where a crown replacing the missing tooth is connected to 2 or more crowns placed over teeth as support). This one, you use a floss threader or water pick or superfloss to clean underneath the crown na walang ipin sa loob. These can be bought from your dentist or sometimes in Watson's meron.

As for pangingitim ng gumline under a crown, it depends on the metal used for PFM crowns. Cheap metals cause discoloration. Of course, you won't have this problem if your dentist instructs the dental lab to use high grade metal for PFM or use porcelain fused to gold or use all porcelain crowns---of course, mas mahal yun.

joining... just had my rct this morning. bale 3roots yun sakin for a molar. my dentist charged me 3.5K/root. then he will do a plastic denture for the 3teeth sa may side yun my kawit temporary lang para di makita na bungi na. kasi tinanggal na lang niya yun jacket ko which attaches to that molar na na-rct kasi nga dami nang food particles na na-entrap which causes the pain... he also advised na better if palitan muna daw ng plastic denture yun lahat kong mga jacket para daw makapag-rest naman yun gums kasi nga medyo nangitim na...

Usually starts at 2k per canal. Of course, rate varies depending on the place of practice & the dentist's experience & skill.

grabe experience ko sa RCT na yan... :-[
    1. years ago, i had my pasta sa may bagang (1 tooth lang)...
    2. then after some years... i felt na parang nagtitinga ako dun sa tooth na yun. SO, i went back and sabi ng dentist, "temporary filling lang kase ang nilagay ko so palitan ko na ng permanent." After that, andun pa rin yung feeling na natitinga ako and the worse is, naging sensitive na sa cold ang teeth ko. I need a warm water pa just to gargle. (Btw... nagpabrace ako and it was where the molar band was inserted.)
    3. So, i went back again and inulit ang pasta. Same feeling and worse is..nangingilo na talga... I feel pain when walking pa. parang nagraradiate sa ngipin...
Same problem persisted :(
    5. taking up difenax helped to ease the pain.... kaso one day, umakyat na sa ilalim ng mata ang sakit... pati sa gums. so i suspected na may nana na ang gums ko.
    6. Balik na naman ako sa dentist.... and i recommended na ipatanggal ko nalang. And she said... sayang ang ngipin. She suggested RCT instead.
1st step ng RCT.... and started taking up dalacin c 300 mg 2x a day. Masakit din kahit may anaesthesia. She just covered it up with 4 rolled mini cotton soaked with eugenol (not sure of the spelling. narinig ko lang sinabi).
    8. march 15, konting pain.... due to inflammation of the gums parin ang origin.
    9. March 16 balik ako for the 2nd step.... masakit pa rin... the inflammation is not subsiding. Msakit pa rin sa may pisngi. Same procedure.... last is the 4 rolled mini cotton soaked with eugenol.
    10. march 17... lessened ang pain. continuous taking of dalacin c.... then nung kinagabihan nafeel ko na naman ang pain sa ilalim ng mata ko... ihad to come back on the 19th pa but when i texted my dentist, pinabalik ako ng 18th
    11. march 18...inexray. ok naman daw. may konting nana daw sa distal end. so nagdrill ulit. and inalis na ang molar band. then piniga ng piniga ang gums ko at may lumabas ngang nana. SAKIT grabe. then i don't know kung anong nilagay na gamot sa cotton to cover it up. Parang ndi na eugenol kase ibang lasa nya. Parang nakakapaso ng dila.
    12. March 19... masakit pa rin. So i had to take difenax ulit. Masakit pa rin gums and pisngi ko. Pinababalik palang ako ng 22nd. I tried pressing my gums para lumabas ang nana...pero grabe talga ang sakit.
and today is a sunday... so wala talgang dentist na magseserve sa kin...: :'( i only slept for 2 hours. i really don't know what to do next.... pano kng sa last step e masakit pa rin? that's covering it up na. may mali ba sa gamot? punta pa naman kame singapore on the 26th puro seafoods papakain ng host ko dun :( H E L P !!!!!!!

@ sis enyuti: Where are you located. I suggest you seek a 2nd opinion from an endodontist or a general dentist who specialize in endodontics (root canal treatment). Please PM me your location or preferred area to seek dental consult, baka may mai-refer ako from the endodontic society of the philippines.

How many days ka nag-take ng Dalacin prior to the start ng RCT? Usually, the antibiotic needs 3 days to provide significant effect on the infection. Usually, I let the patient take antibiotics for a week (or 5 days, depending on the extent of infection and other symptoms) --- this is to let the antibiotics take effect. Anesthesia fails to block the pain in an area with pus kaya even with anesthesia, nasasaktan ang tao sa area na may nana o pamamaga.

FYI, the eugenol is placed in a cotton ball (but should not be babad with eugenol) in order to mummify or kill whatever remnants of the nerve/pulp that remains.

^Kaya pala masakit even when the tooth was anesthetized---hindi pa nagwowork yung antibiotic nun.

If the cotton ball was soaked with eugenol nung nilagay sa ngipin mo, then it may also cause the pain. Dapat after niya isoak with eugenol yung cotton, pipigain niya to remove the excess then saka lang ilalagay inside the tooth. It should not be placed inside the canal na basang-basa with eugenol.

If we're talking of a molar or more than 2 canals, talagang more that 1 sitting. Di rin kaya ng one sitting kung may infection & pus---you have to let the inflammation go down and the pus to drain first.

I'll check for dentists in that area who can help you.

If the tooth is already dead, there's a big chance you won't feel any pain during the procedure. The doctor who would see our case should be able to diagnose whether the tooth is dead or alive.

Sis timmuning...question lang coz as ive posted here few months back i had a successful rut canal then few weeks ago sobrang i had a tooth ache (different tooth) so i went to my other dentist (not the one who did my rut canal) and she said i had to go rut canal so i went to my dentist who usually does the complicated stuffs...when she saw the xray she said 3 na ipin ko raw kailangan i rut canal yung magkakatabi contrary to what the other dentist said. so i decided na magpagawa na same day coz the pain was sobra na tlaga hindi tinatalaban ng pain killer..ang malupit dito hindi ako tinalaban ng anaesthesia kahit sobrang dami na nya tinurok hanggang sa dun sa dulo na nya tinurok she said pra mawalan ng feeling yung half ng jaw ko? anyway after that injection sobrang nahilo na ako and i thought i was going to pass out so tinigilan na nya and just asked me to double dose on my antibiotic and to come back yesterday. yesterday isa lang nagawa dahil the rest ayaw tlaga talaban ng anaesthesia the other one na nagawa she had to inject sa loob na ng ipin ko...im so scared na....what do you think bakit hindi tumatalab anaesthesia?

Well, there could be several reasons why the anesthesia didn't work:
    1. patient took alcohol before the procedure
    2. patient has an ongoing infection underneath the tooth---it prevents the anesthetic agent to work well
    3. patient is too anxious so even with the anesthesia, he/she still perceives the procedure as painful
    4. wrong anesthetic technique
    5. patient has a "hot tooth"

If the dentist is sure that her technique is good and there's no underlying infection on the tooth, then your case might be a hot tooth. A "hot tooth" remains painful even if proper anesthetic technique is done.

How long have you been taking antibiotics before the appointment for RCT? Kasi you mentioned that after the painful episode despite the anesthesia, your doctor asked you to double the dose of antibiotic you're taking---baka hindi pa nag-work yung antiobiotic and may infection pa underneath kaya ganun.

Of course, this is just my assumption---hindi ko naman kasi nakita yung case and x-ray mo to accurately tell you what may have happened.
