thanks ulit mga sisses. pinagawa ko pa rin yung surgery nya. sabi ng vet okay naman daw yun dahil minor surgery lang pareho at para isang tulugan na lang din daw. he has already recovered from his surgeries. naawa lang ako kasi kailangan nya mag fasting at nagugutom na talaga sya before we went to the clinic this morning. hindi ko na din kasi matiis na hindi sya masyadong komportable sa mata nya although hindi naman naapektuhan energy nya.

Yung sa early neutering, ayun, done na po e. hindi ko agad nabasa ang link, usually kasi nababasa ko nirerecommend na puppies pa lang i-neuter na e.

he is doing alright. hindi pa makapangulit dahil may suot sya E-collar. hirap sya dahil mabigat at malaki. wala kasing ibang size na available.

May nakita ako sa youtube, DIY treatment for cherry eye, naloka ako, na-close ko kaagad e. pinupush paloob yung lumabas na 3rd eyelid. akala ko massage lang yung gagawin like sa other videos na nakita ko pero na-shocked talaga ako dun

Hi mga sis, I was doing some research on Royal Canine renal & I came upon this thread. I normally don't like feeding dog food kasi feeling ko puro fillers & preservatives pero ngayun na may sakit yung alaga ko & this is what the vet recommended I'm forced to include it in his food rotation. Meron ba kayo marerecommend na better brand & variant for kidney failure?

My dog is a 5 year old papillon. Life span daw nila is 12-16 years so I'm thinking that he's not yet that old. When he was diagnosed with kidney failure last May his creatinine levels were at 6.7 (0.3-1.4 yung normal range) & anemic sya. I immediately stopped putting meat in his food. Puro fish, vegetables & rice nalang rotated with RC renal. Next check up nya bumaba yung creatinine to 4.9 pero naging mas anemic din sya. He's taking nefrotec, antacid, sangobion & getting subcutaneous fluids regularly. Meron pa ba ako dapat gawin to help him get better?

calling sister twelve, sis moccaccino needs your help. same ata condition ng mga dogs nyo.

ano ang food nya before madiagnose ang renal problem? ang alam ko iba ang blood chemistry ng meat eaters than kibble-eaters so pwedeng nakaaffect yung food sa creatinine levels nya. re anemia, hindi ata ganun kabilis magnormalize ang blood cells nila, it will take time pero ang impt. is may progress kayo lagi. Kung wala masyado progress after 2-3months, siguro time to try another brand na. Some owners here suggested liverolin, tinry ko rin yun sa mga dogs ko effective naman sa kanila. just like sis twelve, possible na magpabalik-balik kayo sa vet to know his progress. hold on lang and keep on praying kaya nyo yan.

Based on some of my readings, safe pa rin naman to give them meat pero more on white meat na lang and in moderation sa red and organs. Kami rin inadvice ng vet to use rx diet nung nagkasakit bunso ko, at kahit diring diri ako sa ingredients napilitan ako bumili. Kinain naman pero di talaga ako kampante sa mga ingredients kaya inisa-isa ko yung hindi familiar sakin. After that di na ako ulit bumili, balik homecooked na lang kami. By the way, you can also add liver to his diet as source of iron, gawin mo na lang treats after giving his meds.

moccaccino, royal canin ba suggested sayo sa vip? yan di kasi una namin binili. after a bag or 2, per sis abuanddiego's suggestion, i shifted to canidae ALS. i choose yung pinaka mababang protien content.

in terms of home-cooked food naman, warning ha, this works for us. baka iba naman mag work sa inyo. tsaka matagal na trial and error ito, mga at least 6 months:

rice - 50%
veggies - 20-25%
meat - 20-25%
+ broth ng pinag boilan ng meat

basta yung meat ang tini-tweak namin... sa dogaware ata yung list of meats with corresponding phosphorus? did i post it na ba dati? if not, nahapin ko uli. naka bookmark yun dun sa nawala kong ipad. tsk.

yung veggies, parang fillers namin, para mabusog at may bulk yung pupu. ang sa suggestion sa internet/books is  to puree the veggies. pero ako, mejo overcook ko ng konti and very tiny ang pieces para madaling ma-digest...

sakin mahilig sa sayote, amplaya, pumpkin, carrots.

sa meat naman ayaw ng beef siguro kasi matabang.. ok sa kanya pork, chicken, fish.

btw, yung amount of food per meal, isa rin yan sa pinag aralan namin. pag mejo nabusog kasi sya nagsusuka. so we feed him smaller meals. imbes na 2x lang, ginawa naming 3x.

am: rice meal
lunch: canidae
pm: rice meal


yung "antacid" + nefrotec + pet-tabs sinasama namin sa rice meal.

imporatant din yung daily exercise. not too much ha. basta if maka walk ng konti, maganda... if not, maski play lang kayo indoor. konting fetch and habulan.

problema kasi sa may kidney issue ata yung lost appetite... pero pag may daily exercise mas magana kumain.

teka post ko muna ito ha. baka kasi magka problema. hehe

^^ thank you for the advice sis. I met sis twelve5 already in another thread. Same vet kasi kami. Prior to the diagnosis yung diet nya is 60-75% meats & 25-40% rice. On special occassions we give him some steak also. Part of the family so sya din sinasama namin sa celebrations. Kung may gulay na pwede sa kanya we add it to the diet na din. Pero most of the time he just eats the meat & leaves the rice & vegetables.  I'm also guilty of sharing my mcdonald's burger with him a few times. Feeling ko this has contributed to his kidney problems. Only dog kasi sya sa household so naging pihikan not like before na may kasama syang Japanese spitz so lamon talaga pag meal times. Yung spitz na yun stayed with us for 16 years & we fed him the same meals. Baka sensitive lang talaga yung breed na to. May vet na nakapagsabi dati na for dogs with kidney issues organic chicken breast is better than the grocery bought ones. Nung nakita ko naman yung presyo ng organic chicken sobra naman ako na gulat. I'll go back to a lean meat rotation pag bumababa na yung cratinine nya to a more acceptable level or pag hindi na sya nagiimprove sa fish. Monthly na ang aming blood tests & the next one is next weekend. Hopefully merong big improvement.

Liverolin is an appetite booster? I'll do some research muna kung ok sya with the other supplements.

dyan ang reference ko... may yahoo group na k9kidneydiet pero ang daming hinihingin info. and they dont accept members basta basta na "just to learn" lang. ewan ko ano pang requirement nila.

yung calcium supplement, per doc gina, di daw namin kelangan kasi may pet-tabs na. yung fish oil, di ko pa naitanong pero parang gusto ko rin sya bigyan. problema lang pahirapan pag bigay sa kanya.

trial and error kasi kaya dapat patient ka... pag walang appetite, maski mejo bawal like whole egg (sa tortang pork giniling), bbq, fried chicken eh binigyan na rin namin ng konti. kasi it also help whet their appetite. after ng isang piraso, mamya hihingi na sya ng food nya (na may gamot). hehe

yung alaga ko mahilig sa pastillas. jusme, natatakot nga ako sa diabetes. pero dessert nya kasi yun. reward nya for eating... ewan ko nga kung paano ko talaga ma eliminate complete eh.

sorry sa haba ng kwento. hehe... if you have questions, i will try my best to share what we do... kaya lang hindi scientific yung method namin... dun sa yahoo group, alam ko they weigh every food eh. talagang controlled nila yung phosphorus.

btw, may chart din ng P content ng other foods. try ko din hanapin at post ko dito.

lastly, always have a brave face and positive attitude. kasi pag sad ka, your dog can also sense your emotion... i remember the 1st few weeks, panay cry ko. haha!... magre-research ako sa internet, mamya cry na ako dahil sa nababasa ko. tapos si pogi ko i-scratch nya arm ko, as if saying, hey whats wrong?.... so now when i cry, dapat im alone. haha!

hehe. we also feed him yumburger, yung no dressing... basta yung patty lang and some bun. but not often kasi di ko rin alam component ng burger. im sure madaming preservatives and may onion and garlic powder yun.

i think, i suspect, yung soft chicken sticks/treats ang salarin ng samin. the brand escapes me now... basta sa tiende namin yun binibili... made in thailand... argh! di ko maisip talaga.

nung tinanggal namin yun, he stopped vomiting... yun nga lang may tama na pala sa kidney.

Hi sis twelve5! RC renal yung recommendation ng VIP. Meron canned version yung Candidae ALS? Thinking of giving it a try also. Hindi kasi pwede ang dried dog food dahil one of his problems is kulang ang water intake nya.

Yung food breakdown namin is rice 50%, fish 25%, vegetables 25% and water para medyo ma lugaw. Pag ayaw kumain we put the food in a blender & use a feeding bottle. 4 small meals a day.

Favorite nya chicken pero hindi na muna pwede ngayun. I also feed him carrots pero pansin ko it still comes out buo in his poop so I'm wondering if it's doing any good. I fed squash pero nag sawa na sya. String beans naman ayaw nya at all. Sayote & ampalaya sounds good. Sinama ko na sa grocery list ko.

We give the liquid meds using a syringe. Effective naman as long as we praise him while giving it.

Nasa reading list ko na yung dog aware, thanks! Panay research ako sa phosphorous & potassium contents ng vegetables pero  minsan conflicting yung answers kaya nakakalito. Ang sweet naman ng dog mo, naaawa pag umiiyak ka.

May na basa ako na maraming dog treats ay very salty so I've eliminated it completely. After meds i give him an ice cube. Lalu na pag mainit yung weather gustong gusto nya. Then I praise  & play with him nalang. Feeling ko mas gusto din naman nya yung attention.

sis, i-mash mo yung carrots. think kaya buo pa nya nilalabas kasi di sya ganun ka soft yung pagluto... string beans - mga 1/2 inch lang ang cut kasi hirap sila i-digest...  potatoes - small cubes or mash... ampalaya - dont buy the small ones kasi sobrang bitter... para tayong nagpapakain ng bata.

yung pogi ko mahilig sa "tinola", "pinakbet" , "torta" , "fried chicken/fish" .... i enclosed in quotation kasi modified recipes yung kanya. no salt, onion, garlic and other ingredients.

sa water naman, try to experiment kung anong temp ang gusto nya... yun sakin kasi he wants cool water. tsaka distilled binibigay namin sa dogs namin. i dont give them tap kasi sa totoo lang wala akong tiwala sa mwss... ayaw din nya na mejo matagal na sa bowl yung water. so we refill often during the day.

praises and rewards after eating and drinking really help. ganyan di kami sa bahay. may pep talk, paki-usap, lambing, dasal, lahat na. hehe

i read sa fb ng k9kidneydiet na ok yung nilla cookies (from US). low in phophorus daw kaya ok na treat. i'll be using that soon for my pogi.

im not sure if this was the culprit. but he stopped vomiting when i stopped giving him this. thailand brand ito... im not sure kung same case ito ng mga chicken treats na made in china which caused many dogs in the usa to fall ill. nag develop ng kidney disease.

im just getting the word out there. if you're giving this to your pet, ingat lang. and any made in china treats should NOT be fed to your pets. china is killing the rest of the world, include our pets.

^Naku, I also fed this when he was a puppy. Buti nalang 1 bag lang. Nung nag pasyal kasi kami sa tiendesitas linapitan nya yung treat na to.  Parang nagpapabili ba?

I checked with Pet Express yesterday, dry lang daw yung canidae na meron sila.  Thanks for all the advice sis! With all the effort we're putting in feeling ko nga may sanggol ako sa bahay.  Pero ok lang kasi mukhang gumagaling sya & nagiging mas energetic lately.  Next week na yung check up.  Sana merong significant improvement sa blood chemistry nya.

^ actually sa vip namin unang nabili yung jerhigh. tapos they didnt sell it na. i dunno why... tapos sa tiende namin nakita madaming sellers at stock. so ayun, dun kami bumibili. siguro naka 10k worth din kami. we normally stock up, 2k worth binibili namin kada punta...  so madami rin kaming tinapon nung diskumpyado na ako.

sabawan mo nalang yung food nya para may fluid intake and exercise/play para mejo mapagod at uminom.

yung tuna in water pwede rin sa kanya. si doc gina nag recommend nun, pero tinatanggal ko yung water dati kasi parang salty pa rin... but recently matabang na yung timpla so pwede ng isabaw. or maski dagdagan mo ng konting water.

im praying for you and your dog. sana mag improve condition nya... kaya yan sis. tyaga tyaga lang tayo ng konti. =)

meron daw canidae in can pero bow&wow lang ata nagcacarry. di rin sure kung laging available. kung pahirapan sa stocks, mas mabuti pa ata maghomecooked kesa magdepend sa canned dogfood

may mga nabasa rin ako na maganda ang fish diet for dogs with kidney problems, mas okay kung oily fishes maibigay like tuna/tulingan, sardines/tamban/salinas, galunggong, salmon, since mataas sila sa omega 3, added benefits sa kanila yan. or yung frozen fish fillet sa groceries, onting luto lang okay na lagyan lang ng rice and some veggies.

liverolin is iron supplement and appetite booster na rin, natry ko na to sa mga junakis ko pero as usual yung baboy ko na naman ang nabaliw. wa epek sa appetite ng shih tzu

^thanks sis! I work in makati so I can check out bow & wow in greenbelt. I need an easy to prepare alternative now that we're feeding him 4x a day. 2 lang kami nagaalaga & we both work full time. Meron day maid pero 2-3x a week lang sya. As much as possible homecooked pa din pinapakain namin. Madalas lang ayaw kumain pag hindi newly prepared ang food. Gusto lang din nya uminom ng water pag nakikita nya bago & galing sa fridge.

Kaya ko na gustuhan yung breed na to kasi na research ko dati 1 of the most intelligent toy breeds daw tapos madalas nananalo sa agility & obedience training. Pero lately naiisip ko na sa sobrang talino di kaya inuutakan na kami? Hehe. Ok lang din, kasi it's part of his charm.

Pag fish yung Dory ang madalas na recommendation ng vet, bakit kaya? We tried that pero nag sawa agad. Then we switched to salmon (gustong gusto nya to) and after that tilapia (successful din to). Now we're on bangus pero lately hindi sya ginaganahan dito . Iniisip ko bumalik sa salmon kasi pinakamadali ito pakainin pero last consultation with the vet sabi nya try to keep it at white meat fish. I haven't gotten around to researching kung bakit white fish meat is healthier than salmon. Ayoko naman masyadong questionin directly si vet at baka ma inis na sakin. Sana meron fresh sardines or galunggong sa next grocery visit namin.

^ this is a very helpful link, thanks sis! We used to do this when his condition was worse kasi dati dapat everyday yung administration. It's just lately na lumalakas na sya that he gets uncomfortable & starts reacting to us na.  I think he's actually reacting to our apprehension.  We've been trying to psyche ourselves up into doing this again at home.  Pwede din pala yung injection sa may butt area...

I've already been getting updates from k9kidneydiet.  Useful nga yung mga nakukuha ko from them but this link is a gem.

^i think yung phosphorus content ang concern nila kaya Dory yung laging inaadvice, red meats kasi are higher in phosphorus, kahit sa fish mas mataas ang content ng salmon, tuna and sardines than Dory. Pero ang maganda sa salmon and other fishes rich in omega 3, it helps in reducing inflammation. siguro kahit imix mo na lang yung fishes sa meal nya, hindi na nya siguro malalaman na mixed na yun hehe. stay away din from organs, high kasi yan sa phosphorus.

Ang alam ko glutinous rice yung inaadvice sa k9 kidney diet kasi sya yung may lowest amount of phosphorus sa lahat ng rice, nabasa ko around 8mg lang per 100g(cooked). wala ba silang list ng phosphorus content bawat food? it will really help para alam nyo alin ang dapat iwasan.
