i'm thinking of finally getting a birkin but don't know how to go about it.  i don't want to go black market because i wouldn't know a fake birkin from a real one and i don't want to be dupped into buying a fake one.  i think the best way is to get one directly from an hermes store, but i also read that i can't do that unless i develop a relationship with the SAs.  is this true?  so i need to buy a handful of other bags, belts, shoes and whatnots before i get to order a birkin?  if that is true, no wonder people say it's very expensive to get a birkin - ang dami pa palang kailangan ibili before you can get a birkin!

anyway, can you share how you ordered a birkin from hermes manila?  do we have to pay 50% of the price upfront and 50% on delivery or should we prepay the entire 100% upon ordering?

legal2shop, just go the the boutique and order. it takes at least 2 years. but i know some people who knows the investor, they can get a bag for 2months but no color preference. kung ano meron sila that time, yun binibili.

if you want a specific color, hardware, etc, it depends but the SAs will tell you naman how long the waiting list is. the hermes here is pretty new. just show them you can afford it. develop rapport and flash your platinum card  hahaha!

thanks for the reply vhanya!  two years?  wow, i guess that's pretty reasonable na rin, if i can pick the material, color and hardware for my bag.  will they already ask me to pay for the bag upon ordering?  i just need to know how much upfront payment is required to order - for sure, i won't be bringing payment in cash to the store!

^as far as i know you don't need to pay upon ordering. =) maybe other sisses can answer your question hehe. i didn't get to order a birkin here. ang tagal kasi for me. sa tokyo japan kasi, its easy to get a birkin when you walk in. i know someone who was able to buy 2 birkins (new colors!) walk in lang =)

You are lucky enough to be put on the waiting/order list.  Some Hermes stores no longer do that... because the order backlog is miles long.

There are ways to put your order ahead of everybody's. 
Ex. in the US, I got 1 faster because I had an oncologist cousin do it for me.   
If you are impatient, as they say.. there are reliable resellers.

A 1-year wait is good (lucky you!); 2 years is,  yes -- an average wait.
So, perhaps you should take a short trip to Japan?

IMO, once you have decided to gift yourself with a Birkin -- do everything short of murder to get one.  Then you can wait out the 2 years for the 2nd one.

Thanks for the feedback Aquacharly.  I guess I'll need to go through connections then as I don't have a relationship with any Hermes SA.  And if they don't accept deposits and just put you on the list at their discretion, it sounds close to impossible for someone like me to get on their list.

A short trip to Japan sounds good, but I hear that the prices there are exorbitant.  Might just stick it out with buying from here, the US or a nearby Asia Pacific Hermes boutique.  But first, let me bring out my list of contacts and see if someone can order a Birkin for me...

Don't trust myself to get my first Birkin from a reseller.  I don't know enough to be able to spot a fake, so it has to be from the boutique for me!

Yeah, I agree with you on that.   Patience is a virtue... hehe
The best thing really is to snag one from an Hermes store.   You get it bnew for sure, and you have no doubts about its authenticity, and you get a better price for it.   

When a Birkin/Hermes bag of your choice is staring you in the face... what the heck, do not go into price differentials/comparisons  from country to country anymore... just grab it!

Exactly the same advice I heeded last year and it worked!    Now, I'm willing to wait another year for my 2nd one.  I got myself waitlisted at Hermes Greenbelt last December.  I visited all the Hermes stores in the European cities we visited last summer.  As expected, no Birkins available except in one of the 2 Barcelona stores but they only had a black JPG shoulder Birkin.  I've been looking for a red 35cm.  The SA at GB said their latest red would be something like wine red.  I hope they'll have it soon.

aquacharly, would you have an idea how long the waiting time is at GB3?  The SA told me they should have an update within the month.  Maybe I should call or stop by again one of these days.

hi, just wanna ask if anyone knows how much and H belt costs in Europe? Particularly Rome and Paris?

Here in Manila the belt strap costs 22k and the simple H buckle is 11k.
