Hi, k_heart.  The 40cm is kind of heavy.  The 35cm is okay but relatively heavier than the unstructured bags.  The handles always leave marks on my lower arm when I carry it for long (like when shopping at the mall; and given that I tend to carry a lot of stuff inside my bag all the time ).  The Birkin's weight also depends on the kind of leather used.  You can find the weight scale of the differend kinds of leather on TPF.  I only have 1 Birkin so far so I couldn't compare based on personal experience.  I think aquacharly and sabster can provide more of such info as they seem to have several Birkins already.  As for care and maintenance, you'll be forced to take very good care of it because of its really really steep price.     But the scratch-resistant leathers like togo, fjord and clemence should require less maintenance than the non-scratch-resistant leather like the box.

^  I still do "lust" for other bags like Chanels and Balenciagas.  Right now, I'm also actually dreaming of a YSL Muse (the original muse) and a Prada Cervo Antik hobo (the one in tan and brown leather), in particular.  Haaay, ang dami nila.  But it feels good to keep dreaming of all these bags.   

I think the others who already have Birkins also still desire for the other brands.

i saw jinkee pacquiao's hermes collection in the latest issue of star studio. eye candy talaga. there were only 5 or 6 birkin/kelly posted but i guess she has more. didnt see there yung pinakita sa snn na yellow kelly, the red one she was carrying when they arrive after manny's fight, the yellow ostrich birkin she's carrying in the latest issue of preview mag and the blue one i saw in jessica soho's show. plano niya ata i collect lahat ng colors and maging victoria adams/beckham ng phils sa dami ng hermes bags.

i went to the hermes store last saturday.no more lindys (php255k), may isang black kelly in box/swift (the sa didn't know eh) leather with ghw.a couple of bollides (php300k) -pinka hindi mabenta na design daw this one. 1 so black kelly...

mura lang yung birkin compared to other resellers (from php480 up) but they have a year long waiting period and yung price na yun pwede pang tumaas even if you place an order now.

i love their s.a.s super nice and patient unlike some of the s.a.s in other stores..

Yes mabigat. The lightest leather that I have is chevre. The heaviest I have is Clemence. My friends are egging me to go exotic na but parang I still find it way beyond my league for now =) I'd have to unload some of mine though to go exotic which I'm not ready at the moment =)

Yes, I still lust for other bags. Now naman that I have Hermes bags na I find myself going back to Chanel flaps! gosh, the colors of flaps now are so beautiful!!!

Ultimate dream ko is to have a pink Birkin.  Probably in a few years.

Good luck. Its special order only for regular customers and even if you are a regular and a VIP orders are not guaranteed to go through. Hence the staggering price of pink/rose/fuschia colored H bags from resellers. The supplier of Jinky P. offered me a fuschia and rose shocking at 17k US nga. Ganon sha kamahal.

I have this BFF, and her dialogue goes this way:  You have Hermes bags already, do not go back and backslide to the other brands.
My reply goes this way:  Hello?!  A bag is a bag is a bag.  Repeat after me:   a bag is never an ID, never a friend, never an extension of my DNA.
(Achi heard us once go through this walang kamatayang script, 2 daw kaming lukaret)

And yes, Birkins are heavy -- to start with.  What more when my mantra is:  choke, Bag, choke.   

Togo and Clemence are sturdy leathers. Or, ewan ko lang -- baka these are the more common/easier delivered orders. 
IF you will use your Hermes mainly in Asia, don't get a bag in Swift leather coz... uhmm, generally -- people in Asia do not respect personal space... magagasgasan lang agad and many times your Swift leather bag.  And if it is said of gray that the color hides dirt well, well... Swift doesn't hide marks well.

Another good alternative is Chevre leather... goat.   But it doesn't come in size 35 and bigger.  Siguro, LOL, walang goat na mataba?  If some expert here has alternative info, kindly correct my impression on this Chevre leather sizing.

Does a Birkin require extra care?
Let us put it this way.. puede mo bugbugin a Birkin, dapat lang coz well, it is a bag not a tiara.
(IMO, if you treat any bag  like an infant when you use it... that is an inconvenient investment/expenditure  )   
BUT other brands, like LV, have better capacity to absorb bugbog/abuse.
Well, it can't be helped .. you will not let your driver lug it around for you much, kahit na you load your Uzi in it... coz well, there are limitations to how much abuse/familiarity  you will subject a bag that comes with its own raincoat (ako nga I own no raincoat eh).

A Birkin is just a bag... enjoy it, sure.  But if you haven't got one yet... I do not think it is cause for any unhappiness, nor a sense of something missing in your life.   

Pa OT, please!  Where can I get hold of those ANG KIU KOK bags?  What is the establishment selling it for what amt of min purchase, or for what kind of "arrangement"?  BUT IF that bag comes with the name of say Legend/s (plural ba or singular that place name?), Pharoah or some massage center... hay naku, kahit na Amorsolo yan "pass" ako.

Chevre de coromandel comes in 35cm.  But it's rare now to get hold of a bag in Chevre leather specially 35cm. coz production is very limited.

Aha!  Thanks for the info, SABSTER.   Someone was trying to sell me a smaller than-35 Kelly or Birkin? or some near mutant thereof (authentic Hermes though) -- My gosh!  I can't recall if it was more like a Kelly or more like a Birkin.... I wasn't paying attention coz the shade of pink wasn't yummy enough --  until!!!    she mentioned that Chevre doesn't get to the 35 + sizes.

What do you think will be a nice color of Chevre to put on a wait list?   I have seen only that pink 1 and somewhere in San Fo.. I saw a gray 1 walking around.   

SABSTER, is this Chevre more durable than the Ostrich?  Passed on my Ostrich to a BFF coz the "dots" started popping out.  Or, masyado kong na "choke, Bag, choke"?

Another query:  Do the Hermes (loot)  bags cost less in Dubai?

As for those very familiar with MACAU -- I know of only 2 Hermes stores there... the 1 at The Four Seasons Shoppes and the 1 at the Wynn Hotel.  Meron pa bang iba?

Not sure if chevre is more durable than an ostrich but one thing's for sure it's a light bag to carry. Lighter than a togo, clemence or swift. You're right there are some incidences that the "eye" of an ostrich bag or dots if you wanna call it that pop out. This is not the first time I've heard of that, it happened to a friend's ostrich too. But I think you can bring it to your friendly Hermes store and send it to bag spa and voila! I believe they can put back the "eyes" 

Fuschia would be great in Chevre.
