When you get a passport for your baby, 5 years pa din validity nya? We're planning to get one na for Zoe as soon as available na sa NSO yung birth cert nya.

z's first flight was when he's 2 mos old mla-singpore, two weeks ago. luckily, behave naman sya. nagwawala [textspeak!] kapag nilalagay & tinatanggal namin sa baby carrier.

@twelvth - we got z's passport last nov 15. 5 yrs validty. you can use the secpa copy of zoe's birth cert, if you do'nt want to wait for the NSo copy. I got z's birth cert secpa copy fr pasig city hall. dfa accepted it. 1 month pa lang kasi after birth nung kumuha kami ng passport & kailangan na namin makaalis agad, so it wasn't an option nun to wait for nso.

^^ pwede naman can and check in lang pero i think it's better to transfer it on a lock and lock container as mentioned ^. check in mo na din tapos dala ka lang the regular container sa baby bag mo. mabilis lang naman flight.

hi everyone!  im new here...

we recently travelled with our 13month old baby to hkg for 5d/4n.  We brought bottles of water and a big can of milk checked in.  And hand carried our usual diaper bag with milk and water inside.  Wala naman problem with airport nor airline.

Ang hindi lang ako natuwa is the seat for us sa PAL.  We were expecting to be seated sa may area in front na sa middle.. like what ive always seen babies get kasi for that trip small plane lang and they're selling that row for 40USD more.

^dear,  the said seats were also selling @ 40 usd when we flew mla-singapor, 1st week of Dec.  the PAL check in officer was just kind enough to offer an extra seat for our 2 month old baby for free because it wasn't a full flight. We also had a small aricraft since it's not a long haul flight. Since peak season, PAL might be keen in having additional income so they put price tags on the said seats.

As for milk & water, we had formula enough to last during the flight hand carried. For water, we just bought in the airport just in case security is strict with liquids. We checked in 3 boxes of 1.2kg of formula :-D

We will be going to Hongkong on March. Mauuna kami ng parents ko and my eldest child (3yrs old).

1.) free ba ang special assistance service? and if nagrequest ako nun, will they assist my husband ba hanggang makasakay ng plane?

2.) i booked Go-lite lang for my hubby and daughter. pwede bang hand carry yung stroller and small can ng milk?

3.) pwede bang magdala ng 4-5 feeding bottles filled with water?

4.) do i need to present my kids' baptismal certificates to get a passport?

5.) san kaya pwedeng magpa passport pic for my kids?

Hi Quisha!  on our trip last december to hkg here are some things we have encountered..
1.  Better check with the airline regarding the special assistance.    Ive only heard of special assistance for minors travelling or those in wheel chair.
2.  Yung stroller you can bring it up until the gate where you need to board the plane.  Doon nila ipapaiwan sa iyo yung stroller.  The stroller naman will be given to you immediately after you get off the plane sa hong kong.  PERO pag balik mo dito sa phils yung stroller lalabas sa conveyor (along with all the luggages).  <--thats the usual process.  Check the Go-lite rules rin coz im not familiar with the Go-lite.
3.  Pwede magdala ng bottles filled with water sa diaper bag hand carried.   We even brought (checked in) bottles of dr edward enough to last us the entire trip (5 days) sa luggage namin.
4.  According to the DFA website:
   Minors Traveling with father only:
    * Passport of father, original and photocopy.
    * Marriage Certificate of parents from NSO in SECPA.
    * Original Birth Certificate from NSO in SECPA
    * Personal appearance of minor with either parent.
Meron din silang rule for those travelling with mothers only.
http://www.passport.com.ph/requirements
5.  You dont need to take your kids photos because they'll take their pics at DFA when you apply for their passports with them.  By the way, go to the DFA website and book your appointment for passport application kasi matagal makakuha ng appointment.  Oh and I'd go for the RUSH processing kasi hindi naman exactly the number of days nila sinabi lalabas passport mo....

Btw, to help with the pressure sa ears for the babies you can offer something to drink (water or milk) kasi its when we swallow na na rerelieve yung pressure.

pacifiers do help as well.

aliw ako dito kasi natuturuan ko na 2 year  old ko to swallow to get rid of the ear pressure. so everytime i see her swallow (with effort) napapasmile ako :)

^Other things which have probably not been mentioned yet:

1.  We're big on child safety, so I would recommend investing in a good child life vest, hindi yung inflatable lang.  Your child will need this during the boat ride and can be used while swimming.  They have this available in Speedo.  If your baby is too small for their child life vests, you can opt to use a neoprene swim vest, which is available in Mothercare.

2.  Bring a hat & sunscreen.  For the beach, those one-piece suits with sleeves and leg coverings are ideal.

3.  Mommy travel outfit: I like wearing dresses or top + cropped leggings for easier and faster bathroom trips.  No more zippers or buttons to fumble with.  I wear dresses or cropped pants because I don't like it when my long pants touch bathroom floors and I always have to fold the hem up pa.  Sorry, I'm kind of OC like that.  :) Pwede rin shorts kasi lulusong ka sa tubig.  For footwear, it's good to wear waterproof slip-ons; it's better to have those without ankle straps or shoe laces so you can easily remove and put them on (without having to bend over and use your hands) at the airport security checks.

4.  You can choose not to bring beach toys any more since they're bulky.  You can just buy there (a set of shovel and bucket only costs about P50).

5.  Take the plane's barf bags.  My daughter is a great traveler (she doesn't fuss during plane or bus rides), but I'm not.  I get car/boat sick easily and those barf bags really came in handy.

Enjoy your trip!

I saw a portable sterilizer at shangri-la mall. hygenie yung brand. it's battery operated and it's sold at P1350. here's the link. http://www.hygenieusa.com/about.htm

do you think mas okay ito compared sa mothercare strelizing tablet? or much better if i'll use both? hehe...  ;)
