Landscaped Gardens (post pics here)

Hi sisses,

we have a lanai space that we want to be landscaped. sadly, landscaping fees are so mahal and nakakapanghinayang naman kung sa garden pa lang malaki money na ang mauubos. if only we can post pics of beautiful gardens here then that would be a heaven-sent to many. nagsurf na kase ako sa net and so far wala pa ko makita na helpful. or maybe you can share ideas ng mga ginawa/pinagawa nyo sa mga gardens nyo na pwede makatulong sa iba.

I get ideas from gardens of houses featured in local magazines like Phil. Tatler, Town & Country, Cocoon, Metro Home and Entertainment, Real Living, and other  magazines.  (Even in Yes! magazine    I look at the gardens of celebrities.)

I am able to conveniently see the latest developments/styles in landscaping/gardens from these magazines.
Nakikita ko din doon how plants can be styled; and I get to see which plants will look good together; and thrive wherever... For example, near ponds, under trees, by waterfalls, etc.

Ang napapansin ko lang,nowadays,  a water feature is almost always included in gardens.  Koi ponds are popular, "wall" waterfalls appear frequently too.  Pools/ponds that start right at the edge of the house itself are also appearing more.   (Maganda, parang naka float a part of the house over water when one looks out.)
Some condo units even have a fountain on their balconies, among artful arrangements of potted plants.

Good feng shui daw kasi ang water feature.

I created a thread in the Garden forum, I didn't know this thread existed. 

I hope you don't mind if I ask how much inabot?  I need to have an idea how much landscaping costs - I have a whole backyard that badly needs help!  I want to know how much budget to allot for that project.

Yung landscape lang mismo around 150k. mura na daw yun coz usually per square meter talaga ang pag assess. e sobra laki ng area. (around 250-300 sqm ata yung garden lang)  cemented pa yung buong area kaya doubly hard for them to landscape. pero may additional expense pa ako nung nagdagdag ako ng kung ano anong tanim (not from the same contractor). yung mga wood elements (trellis, swing at gate) hindi kasama sa 150k.

Sa maintenance medyo magastos sa tubig. kailangan ko pa makahanap ng permanent gardener na mag maintain kahit 2x a month lang. Now, yung mga yaya ko lang at driver nag mi maintain kaya minsan doble gastos at di naman sila expert kaya andun yung namamatayan ng halaman, etc.

Kung hindi naman kalakihan budget, pwede ka mag hire ng gardener/landscape consultant tapos bili na lang mga halaman. may nag presenta sa akin dati 800 per day lang at sya na mag design. kaso mukhang di sya well equipped, pumunta sa bahay sarili lang nya dala at kung ano ano na inirerekomenda baguhin sa landscape ko, e mukha namang walang K.
 in the end, nagpa trim lang ako ng blue grass pero sobrang mahal nabayaran ko!!!!

Pero sobrang worth all the expense..... enjoy baby ko at may sarili na syang park.... sobrang mura kasi bili ko sa property kaya malakas loob ko gumastos sa pagpapaganda....

^ awww.. sakit sa bulsa.. pero kung maganda talaga kinalabasan, worth it naman.. still, since di naman talaga ako magarden na tao, nasasayangan ako sa 150k..

You can do that yourself, just like we did with a one area in our backyard which was used to be occupied with tall wild plants.

Ang nagastos namin? Konti lang, we only paid for those concrete blocks that we used for the path, it was less than a hundred pieces priced at 3.20 euros each, we got those from a garden centre. We didn't hire workers kasi baka contrahin lang ang gusto ko and I knew it would cost thousands of euros. As much as I love gardening, I still don't think its among the things that are worth splurging on. So we did everything ourselves. My parents-in-law came by a few times to help us out.
My husband and I do not know how to build anything, but surprisingly maganda ang result

^no probs. Pwedeng pwede talaga ang DIY even for people like me and my husband who do not have any background on designing and renovating spaces. I'm a nurse/writer, and hubby is a software engineer, anong malay namin sa landscaping, di ba?

 Maybe you should ask the contractor of your house or the developer and find out kung anong klaseng lupa yan, kakayanin ba nyan kung tatambakan yan ng garden soil? I know a family here who can not use some areas of their garden for growing plants because they found out that those areas are not ideal for gardening. Yung ilalim pala ng soil puro bato, di na aabsorb yung water.

[textspeak!] din ako alam dyan sa mga landscaping na yan. so, this will definitely help pag mag-landscape na kme sa likod nmin. altho, am thinking of how to put a water feature. yun kaso gusto ko, since I made sure na yung kitchen namin is facing the garden, kung saan ay magakakaron ng water feature (small pond/fountain, etc).

^ gusto ko din yan water feature na yan. motor lang naman ang katapat nyan and some rocks. a bit of waterproofing.... sana kayanin ng powers ko. tee hee!!

Thanks! The problem with having a small pond is that it could be a breeding area for mosquitoes. Tingin ko lang yan.

but what about yung water sa wall? wall water ba tawag sa ganun? will it also be a breeding area for mosquitoes if ever?

^ same question.. i plan to put a water wall din sa may lanai.. iniisip ko lang yung mosquitoes.

if you have a pet fish, no problem. kakainin ng fish yung mga kiti kiti. kung wala, need mo palitan palagi ang water or have a running water. ayaw mangitlog ng lamok sa running water. or perhaps bleach the water now and then? mabubuhay pa ba sa bleached water ang mga itlog ng mosquitoes?

lagyan ko na lang [textspeak!] ng maraming hehe...coz, if i bleach the water, di ko na malalagyan ng plants...or mabubuhay ang plants, even if bleached ang water?? sorry, tlagang [textspeak!] akong alam sa pagtatanim...hahahaha
