When Your Helper Gets Sick...

mga sis, kayo ba sumasagot ng meds ng helpers nyo?

We currently have 3 helpers. Although we try to give them the same food that we eat, most often than not pag dinner nila, de lata or egg or dried fish or chicken sila kasi bihira kami mag dinner. Siguro in a week max of 2x lang may nag ddinner sa family namin. Mom ko kasi nag lluto sa house so alangan naman nag luto pa sha for the helpers. We tried damihan yung luto for lunch pro usually nauubos na nila kaya ndi umaabot ng dinner.

Problem is 1 of the helpers complained to me yesterday na nagkk allergies sha from the food that they eat. Unfair naman to the others if iba ulam nya at mas lalong unfair kung maglluto pa mom ko ng para sa kanila (which she wont) or may special grocery pra s kanya.

Ano kaya magandang compromise dito?

Btw, if its just fever, cough, headache or mga viral lang, binibigyan ko ng meds. Pati for labs if kakailanganin

Try to find out first kung saan siya may allergy and kung anong effect. Kung pwede naman iwasan ang food, iwasan na lang niya. If itlog lang naman yung nagcacause ng allergy, eh di mag de lata na lang siya. If chicken, eh di mag fish or veggies. Wala pa akong nababalitaan na allergic sa veggies.

Sa akin if more than one ang helper ko, i let one of them do the cooking na. I give them an allowance per week na pang grocery. Bahala sila bumili basta pagkashahin nila yun for a week. Para hindi ko na problema yun. That way, napipili nila gusto nilang kainin and natututo silang magbudget.

My Yaya got sick a day after her day off. Turns out she had pre-existing UTI from her urinalysis and mababa din ang platelet so monitored sya for Dengue. So everyday CBC. I paid everything like check-ups, lab tests and meds. Ok lang naman, If need sya i-confine i'll send her to the hospital. Should I revise our contract or rules here, si yaya kasi minsan ngpapaalam na, na di sya pwede basta mg-resign? Do I have a right at all? Plus my MIL says dapat di ko na sagot yun pagamot kasi it was a pre-existing sakit na di gumagaling kasi panay self-medicate lang sya. Ok lang naman sa akin, kasi syempre di na sya iba sa akin, kaso baka mamaya tapusin lang nya tong buwan na to and mgpaalam na.

Tama, alamin nya muna saan sya allergic, tpos try to avoid ano yung mga food na yun. Sagot ko ang regular meds. Nagpa-dentist pa nga ako ng maid dati kasi sakit ipin nya daming bulok, can't eat well. I've posted that story na din dito sa GT.

Sa amin, hindi maluto ang MIL ko. Kapag walang lutong ulam, and sila lang she eats her diet-dietan food like fruits, oatmeal cookies and stuff.

So kawawa ang maid dahil minsan she'll tell the maid na huwag na magluto kasi sila lang naman sa bahay. What I do is I leave P100 per day na mawawala kami (me, hubs and kids) sa bahay. Pang-kain nila. Bahala na sila sa kung anung gusto nila bilhin na pagkain, yung iba mautak. pinapang-load. lol

emeenem- we already tried sa dating helpers yung bibigyan sila ng allowance then bahala sa food nila. we found out na instead of buying food, they keep it for themselves then nenok ng food namin kaya medyo hesitant ako mag try ulit ng ganun. Pero tama ka, wala pa din akong naririnig na allergic sa veggies. i'll probably try na pag yung mga stuff na allergic sha ang pnapaulam sa kanila, bigyan ko na lang ng pang bili ng veggies. Bought her anti-histamines & medyo mahal sha kung lagi ko shang bibilhan. better na yung ipangbbili ko ng meds nya eh ibili na lang nya ng food

Is this P100/ person? naku, ang mahal kasi 3 sila. Tama ka dun sa mauutak. Pinanglload tapos pag nag text ka naman, ndi sumasagot kasi wala daw load

What i do is i tell them one afternoon a week to go to the grocery and buy their food. Tapos inauaudit ko pagdating kung ano binibili nila and san napunta yung binigay kong allowance. Pag di naubos, pinapambili ko ng meryenda nila sa tindahan.

^^ pwede naman sis na di P100/per person. Kung 3 sila and buong araw ka lang naman wala pwede na din P100 dun. Whole day lang naman. Pwede na ipambili ng gusto nila na food. Pero sabi mo nga allergic sya sa delata. Gulay or bread. less than P100 pa din yun.

Yun ang binigay ko kasi me food naman sa bahay (ref or sa cabinet, mga de-lata) if gusto nya magluto. Pero knowing them (some indays) it's their time to eat junk food. Yung inday namin dati super payat. Pero always coke and chichirya sya sa hapon. Dun nya ginagastos yung binibigay ko na food allowance.

Ako pag I gave them load (which I always do) I demand a reply. Nakakatikim ng salita paguwi ko. I tell them in a stern manner. (di ako sigawin type) "Neng, bakit di ka sumasagot? Me load ka di ba? Pinaloadan kita? Bakit di ka sumasagot? Yung load na yun eh pang-sagot sa akin at di pang text kung kanino man" (especially if I know na me BF) I make sure I say it in a way na "umayos ka" lol so far naman, fail proof this style.

dati yung mga gamot gamot namin nakalagay lang sa isang cabinet sa kitchen.  banig banig ng biogesic, decolgen, ponstan, atbp naka stock lang dun.  aba minsan nung naghahanap na ko ng biogesic eh ubos na.  pati ponstan na medyo may kamahalan eh wala na rin.  inis na inis ako at eto palang katulong eh panay kuha dun.  ginagawa yatang vitamins yung mga gamot!  madalas sumakit ipin kaya panay kuha ng gamot.  after that sinabihan ko magpatingin na sya sa dentista at di naman tama na panay panay inom ng pain killers.  at pinanik ko na rin sa room ko yung lalagyan ng mga gamot.  bumili na lang sya ng sarili nyang supply ng gamot ano

^ ganyn din yung dati namin na maid, inuubos ang stock ng meds. turns out sira sira na ipin nya. naawa naman ako pina dentist ko. kaso ako pa din ang niloko, posted that here in GT na din. Lesson learned. Bahala na si Lord sa kanya.

hi sisses.  i have a problem here. i've hired a maid through agency about 2 months ago.  after a while, we found out that she has high blood and diabetes.  her wounds heals in a slow pace and she feels dizzy every morning).  i've told her to stop cleaning our bathroom and do other very physical work kasi there was one time, she had headache, dizziness and pang hihina after she cleaned our bathroom.  work wise, di siya magaling maglinis.  matiyaga lang kasi kailangan ng pera dahil maraming utang.  you can see naman that she is really trying.  as of now, she is limited to watching over my son and other light household work.

all my friends are telling me to ask her to go.  my hubby said ok lang to let her stay.  what is your opinion mga sisses? minsan natatakot ako na mahimatay due to her illness.   she doesn't take any medication for her illness.

another thing is she just told me that she can refer a maid to us.  i don't know if i should accept because i am considering letting her go.  parang may mali kasi if i let her go after i got the one she referred.

IMO, if you can't let her go kasi naawa ka, let her attend medical missions or have her checked sa mga health centers around your area. Sa mga med missions kasi they can sometimes get tested & get meds for free. Prob nga lang dun is yung follow-up. Look for a health center near you & try to ask around

For me, let her go, DM and Hypertension needs maintenance meds or else may tendency talaga na maging problema yan, baka mas malaki pa gastusin mo sis incase ma-hospitalized siya plus kargo de kunsensya mo pa, my father has DM and hypertension and cannot do strenuous activities... kaya very limited lang din pwede gawin ng HH mo.. ask for replacement sa agency, dapat yung binibigay nila ay physically fit/fit for work..

I agree sis, let her go habang maaga pa.  Diabetes is a progressive disease especially when not controlled.  Worst scenario pagnasira na kidneys niya and she needs na dialysis treatment.  By that time, baka strong na yung rapport and closeness mo kay maid that you can't let her go, and masnakakaawa yun.
Advice her to get philhealth card (Php100/mo) or bigyan mo na siya ng list ng charities like PCSO.

Nga pla, whatever you decide to do, better if you do it quickly kasi if matagal na mag heal yung wounds nya, ibig sabihin bad na yung DM nya. May tendency yan na magk cellulitis at maging gangrenous. Iaadmit sha kung ganun kasi better na IV meds if magkaron ng infection

Let her go.  See if her referral is workable.  If yes, give her a fee for the referral.

Let her go  nicely.. Tell her That you fear if she gets a diabetic attack or HB episode -- and conks out - nobody in the house will be able  to get her immediate attention.  If you can do it with a light heart, give her separation pay.  Kelangan mo katulong, remember, hindi 1 pang aalagaan.

With meds - we have a FIRST AID box. Every 15 and 30 - they check and tell me what we should buy. Sa ganon, it is always ready, and pilferage is discouraged.  Mahiya naman sila, it is for them all! 

With food - hiwalay kanila -  marketing,  grocery and cooking.  They have a 2wk menu they agreed to, and that is followed. Hindi puede kupit coz the drivers will tell me agad if something is wrong.  They also know if lokohin ako, mabilis ako show the door-  out!  hindi puede kupit our food coz our food is in the ref and freezer in our family kitchen.  We also have a 2wk menu, and alam ko how much we consume - so yun lang buy, prep and cook.   

I am sick and tired of help with special food needs. Kung may bawal, maarte, or may allergies - palit agad or I do not accept.

Well, my mom didn't ask her to come back after her day-off. Napagod na daw mom ko about the maids' reklamo about her allergies. My mom overheard pa na she made reklamo to the other maids na dapat daw free na meds nya since i'm a doctor  Wala akong tindahan ng gamot no. Got pissed off tuloy na I tried to help pa. Too bad nalaman ko after she left

Anyway, thanks for the ideas! I'm sure mauulit pa mga ganitong situations

Mga sis few months ago, my mother-in-law hired a maid for us na may tb pala, ang ending pinaalis namin kasi delikado plus im pregnant. Ngyong malapit ako manganak, kinuha ulit ng MIL ko yung same maid saying magaling na daw. Napaxray na daw. Diba mga sis, ang tb di na nawawala sa katawan and once may magtrigger sa kanya, susumpong ulit yun? Eh thisweek nako manganganak. Ayoko talaga kunin yun pero mapilit MIL ko. What do i do?
