While some of us come here to try and help our fellow Dubians/Abu Dhabians(?) Grin and wannabees with whatever questions they have, depending on the topic we may not always have the answers to your questions, or the answers may not always be that accurate.
So, to save you the confusion (and posting time), please do a search in yahoo or google regarding your query as a number of search results give expert feedback. If you need added information, then we'll do our best to help out.
Some commonly asked questions:
1) Madali lang ba makakuha ng trabaho?Depends. If you apply for "kahit ano" then you'll be able to land a job in a week's time. The type of jobs are for sales, retail, and food industries. If you're looking for a particular position (accountant, call centers, office staff, etc) then it may take you around 3 weeks to more than a month. Kailangan lang ng sipag at tiyaga sa paghahanap and a whole lot of luck.
2) Ok ba sweldo?Depends. Work is divided into two categories: Specialized and Non-specialized. Specialized work is yung tipong hindi kayang gawin ng lahat (doctors, IT programmers, engineering, etc) and non-specialized is yung kahit sino kayang gumawa nun (office clerks, recepcionists, sales staff, etc). Specialized jobs can get you at least 5000 dirhams per month (approx Php50,000) while non-specialized jobs range from 1000 dirhams (approx Php10,000) per month to 4000dhs. Note that there is no minimum wage, and there are no salary restrictions. A sales clerk in one company can earn 3000 dirhams while another sales cleark with the same job can earn only 1500 dirhams. Like what was previously mentioned, kailangan lang ng sipag at tiyaga sa paghahanap ng work that pays well and a whole lot of luck.
3) Cost of Living?Dubai is one of the most expensive cities in the world to live in. A most recent survey has Dubai on the top 80+ most favorable cities to live in. On average, you will be spending around 1100 dirhams per month for basic necessities (accommodations/food/traspo). Super tipid na yon. Note na yung 500 dirhams dyan is for accommodations... and bedspace lang sya with at least 4 people in one room. If you want your own room (in an shared apartment) you will need to shell out at least 2000 dirhams.
4) If i get a job i don't like, puede naman ako maghanap ng iba right?No. The Ministry of Labor protects not only employees, but employers as well. Once your employer has given you a residence visa, nakatali ka na. You can be banned from working in the UAE if you do not finish your contract.
5) Is it safe to live there?Dubai/Abu Dhabi are probably some of the safest and honest cities around... if you leave something behind (bag/phone/wallet) pagbalik mo andun parin. Sabi ko nga kung sakali nawala alam mo na kung sino kumuha (pinoy Tongue ). If you leave your house doors open all day walang papasok. Though syempre there are some reports of criminal activities pero all in all, it's pretty safe.

6) On Ban lifting fees:Info lang regarding paying a fee to avoid being banned if you decide to transfer to a new employer.
Unlimited contract -> minimum one year required before you are allowed to change employers
Before, if you resign kahit wala ka pang one year sa company (and even if you have an NOC), the Ministry will give you an automatic ban; dapat maka-one year ka muna sa company bago ka puede mag-resign.
Now you are allowed to resign kahit wala ka pa one year, but you will have to pay fees to avoid being banned (by the Ministry). You will still need an NOC from your employer however. The "ban lifting" fees are calculated as 500dhs for each month shy of 1 year.
So let's say you only worked for 5 months. 12(1 year) - 5 months = 7 months. 7 months ang kulang mo para maging 1 year ka. Then 7 months x 500dhs = 3500dhs. 3500dhs is the fee na dapat mong bayaran para hindi ka ma-ban.
Also, if you have worked for more than 3 years with one employer, you can change jobs at hindi mo na kailangan ng NOC. However, you will still have to pay certain fees to avoid the ban.
Note that this fee is currently applicable in Dubai and has not been implemented in Abu Dhabi.
Limited Contract BanIf you are under a limited contract, you CANNOT resign for the duration of the contract. If you resign, you will get a 1-year automatic ban from the MOL.
7) Computation of GratuityBased sa UAE Labor Law, you get:
- 7 days per year if more the a year but less than 3 years
- 14 days if more than 3 years but less than 5 years
- 21 days for the first 5 years
- 30 days for each year over the 5th year
Computation is: Pay per day x No. of Days x No. of Years
So assuming your pay per day is 200dhs and you finished 3 year contract...
Gratuity = 200 x 14 x 3
Gratuity = 8,400dhs
Note that the number of years worked is not based on the length of your service/contract but it is based on the actual number of days worked.
Meaning... if you have 3 years contract and natapos mo sya, BUT you were absent (without pay) for a total of 365 days during those 3 years.... in effect, you have only completed 2 years service and therefore gratuity will only be computed at 7 days.
For your info:DUBAI (AFP) - Playing loud music, dancing, nudity, kissing and even holding hands in public is considered inappropriate behaviour under new guidelines laid down by the authorities of Dubai, a report said Saturday.
Arabic-language daily Al Emarat Al-Youm said the Dubai Executive Council had urged residents of Dubai, where foreigners make up more than 80 percent of the population, to respect the customs of the Muslim majority country and avoid inappropriate behaviour.
The rules, which apply to all public places, include a ban on all forms of nudity, playing music loudly and dancing, exchange of kisses between men and women -- and even on unmarried couples holding hands.
Any breach of the guidelines, by nationals or expatriates, carries a possible prison penalty.
