sandalwood: I suggest you visit muna so you can get a clearer picture of how life here is before making that decision to relocate. pero sabagay, chances are, if you're set on migrating, even if you don't like what you see, magma-migrate pa din kayo hehe.

honestly, ang masarap talaga sa US is, if you have a job, nagba-balance kahit papaano yung suweldo mo saka needs mo. basic needs are usually met. saka mas madaling mag-ipon.

valm: sa newspapers ako sinuwerte. ok din I think to go to a particular company's website and apply directly. Some jobs nga pala require a DL. Try county jobs din pala. Wag muna state.

shopaholic18: I think ok pa naman 'pag nasa medical field ka. The thing people are speculating though-because of Obama's healthcare reform, posibleng lumiit ang suweldo at maapektuhan mga doctors, nurses, etc. then again, we're not sure.

as for hawaii vs ca-for me kasi, sa hawaii, at least andun family mo. may malalapitan ka. your main goal kasi when you first migrate is to survive. i think you can take the plunge anytime after you first come to the US. sa una kasi mangangapa ka pa so the transition might be easier for you if you stay with your family first. mahirap din makitira sa relatives kasi. iba yung feeling. may hampaslupa effect nyaha joke.

btw, sa mga fans pala ng ross and tj maxx-super ok yung stores nila sa palmdale. lalo na yung ross. breath of fresh air. literally. kasi some of their stores, baktol central eh. but the one in palmdale is really spacious at walang clutter. saka good deals din. sayang wala akong pera pero almost scored levis shorts for 5 bucks. tj maxx naman was selling coach sneakers (?) for 40-50.

^thanks sis, siguro nga ganun muna then work my way up although sabi nila its a lot cheaper somewhere else than hawaii. mala boracay din pala kasi dating dun with their prices in gasoline, rent and the like pero yun lang andun family ko.

although businesses have picked up, it's not really 100%...we get bonuses quarterly but we've not gotten back our 10% paycut...(bonus = luxury tax = quits lang kami ;-()
my company has not sponsored h1b's for quite sometime, kami ata yung last batch, where we got our greencards in 2007...they're hiring but not sponsoring anymore....
you can ask referrals from friends who are in the same industry as yours....animation/graphics design field ka ba ?

mura lang naman mag aral ng pharma-tech sa Cali tapos 3-4 months lang. tapos externship, tapos pag nagustuhan ka nila ihihire ka nila. yun kasi course ng mga pinsan ko ngayon. mga tamad mag aral kaya mga short courses kinukuha nila. nasa $12/hr entry level nila. 40hrs/wk. w/ benefits pag full time.

^ganun pala yun, thought its 35/hr pero i think sa licensed na nga yun ganun kasi sa tita ko. kailangan mag aral pa talaga ako ng mabuti, if you want something you have to earn it naman eh. i just wish everything fall into place in time.

^ np. but 12/hr for an entry level job isn't bad. pero yun nga, go for the 35 na.

Heard about a new pinoy resto in San Mateo called Mana. Haven't tried it yet but Intramuros & Tribu Grill are really delicioso.
